Fairfax Marriott at Fair Oaks

Fairfax County
We have stayed at the Fairfax Marriott Fair Oaks 25+ times over the last 8 years while visiting our son and his wife who live in Fairfax. Additionally, we have frequently had friends and family stay there while visiting too. Originally, we loved the hotel, but it has increasingly become worn and in disrepair. This past weekend will likely be the last time we stay there, unless measures are taken to correct many of the issues we so disappointedly encountered. A large group of us traveled to Fairfax and all booked rooms at the hotel (10 rooms) . We found the rooms in need of better cleaning and physical and mechanical repairs. It started when I arrived, got to the room which was not very clean, had torn draperies, and an air conditioner which clanged constantly. The maintenance man, who was lovely, came promptly to try to fix the noise issue, but could not. As a result, my room was changed to another floor, with no one helping me. The next room, had a very dark entry from the hall, as the lights there were not working. Upon entry, the room was also in need of a better cleaning, the door handle was falling off, and the faucets needed repair. When family and friends arrived, they too were certainly not thrilled with their rooms for similar reasons. Well before coming, I spoke with the front desk and hospitality agent about the possibility of having a space available to greet family and friends as the arrived and so we could spend a bit of time together. Although they said yes, the next day I received a email from the banquet manager, stating there were no such spaces available. In the past, we’ve used a hospitality room there for this purpose, but I was told there was absolutely no way they could accommodate my request. On The night when guests arrived, the hospitality roo off of the main lobby was in fact vacant all night, but the front desk manager said we needed to ask for it in advance to get tables and chairs. I had that request, in writing, but it did not matter. They did finally make a space arrangement for us when they realized we were simply going to stay in the lobby., because they did not want some of the children ‘running wild,’ in the lobby. Overall, the hotel and staff did not do much to be accommodating or welcoming, with a few notable exceptions (the woman overseeing the restaurant for breakfast was very kind and helpful). We are Marriott Bonvoy members, and ad stated earlier, have been frequent guests at this hotel. Unless significant changes are implemented very shortly, we will choose to stay elsewhere, as there are many fine options in this area.

SpringHill Suites Fairfax Fair Oaks

Fairfax County
This is a 3-star hotel and it shows. As its name indicates, the rooms are suites and come with a small kitchenette, which includes a small sink, refrigerator, coffee maker, and a small microwave. Our room also had a small living room with a couch. The TV in our room was set at an awkward position, opposite the wall that separates the living room and the bed. This was probably an attempt to be visible from both, but made it difficult to watch from either space. The room did not have a safe and there was only one drawer to store things. The cupboard was good size and came with an ironing board. The AC was quite loud and we were staying on one of the lower floors so the general noise level in the room was quite higher than in other hotels we stayed. Nearby (0.2 miles) there is a small mall with a choice of restaurants and a grocery store. This hotel is near the George Mason University and is one of the university's preferred hotels. So many families stay here when they visit the university. However there is no hotel shuttle to take you there. So, you either need to have a car or to pay taxi back and forth. The breakfast can be improved. We didn't expect it to be a full continental breakfast, but it seemed minimal. There were no bagels, English muffins, waffles or similar. On the other hand there were pre-packaged cereal and milk, pre-packages hot sandwiches, boiled eggs and some fruit. This could be due to COVID, but the look of these things did not inspire confidence for their quality. Again this is a 3-star inexpensive hotel, so one cannot complain that much.

Staybridge Suites Tysons - McLean, an IHG Hotel

Staybridge Suites Tysons - McLean, an IHG Hotel

Mclean|0.35km from city centre
At a cursory glance, my King One Bedroom Suite seems spacious and well appointed. It doesn't take long, however, before one can see that this place is in dire need of some TLC, most notably when it comes to cleaning. One of the first things I noticed upon checking in to my room was a card pledging IHG's commitment to a high standard of cleanliness, signed off by Julia and the Cleaning Team. One quick look around the place and it is clear that IHG and its cleaning team have not upheld this commitment. I was disgusted to find a long black hair nestled comfortably between a tissue box and the bathroom mirror, streaks and grime all over the floors, picture frames, and tables, and questionable stains on the bed's headboard. I have had to give this place a good scrub myself just to be able to bring myself to sleep at night. Sleep was next to impossible, however, as one of the guests down the hall seemed intoxicated and was shouting with his door open for at least 30 minutes. I tried phoning reception to inform them of the rowdy client and their suggestion was literally ”Go talk to them and tell them if they don't stop shouting, we will have to intervene”. I couldn't take it anymore and personally stepped outside to ask the guest if he could keep his voice down, but before I could get to his door, his groggy neighbor was already in the process of giving him a piece of her mind. Ready to put the previous night behind me, I woke up this morning to prepare some coffee and start my day only to find more stains on the fridge and all over the coffee maker and carafe. I would have cleaned it myself, but of course there was no dishwashing liquid anywhere to be found in my room. It's only my second day here and I can only imagine what surprises are in store for me tonight at The Staybridge Suites McLean. As a paying guest, all I ask is for a clean place to sleep and some peace and quiet. Instead, it seems I have signed up to be a pro bono cleaner and nighttime security guard. Internet connectivity is extremely sporadic so forget about working from home! I understand that the pandemic has posed some setbacks and that a room clean can only be offered once every three nights, but at least make sure that the room is cleaned prior to the next guest’s check-in. I do not recommend anyone stay here if they expect a clean and quiet hotel. This place's only saving grace is its proximity to DC and the stellar customer service skills demonstrated by Jonathan, the night shift representative who really streamlined the check-in process.

The Westin Tysons Corner
4.1/599 Reviews
My partner and I were staying at The Westin Tysons Corner (Jan 16-21) and had the most demeaning and utterly disrespectful guest service experience at this hotel. I’d like to preface this review by saying that I am a Titanium Elite member with Marriott, staying roughly 100 nights with various Marriott hotel brands in the last year alone. Of all the nights of staying with Marriott throughout the years, I have never been on the receiving of such blatant and careless disrespect from a hotel employee. After returning from dinner on Friday, Jan 20 around 9:30PM, my partner and I decided we wanted to stop at the restaurant bar to get a dessert. Upon entering the hotel we realized we left the room keys inside the room and needed to stop by the front desk to get new keys. While we were waiting for the front desk agent, Rahan, to finish up with the guest in front of us, my partner had to use the restroom. He couldn’t find the restroom, went in the wrong direction (simple mistake) and ended up near the bar where he came across Nelson, the hotel bartender. Nelson aggressively yelled to him “Where are you going?!” and “Why are you walking in that direction?!” Feeling confused as to why Nelson approached him that manner, my partner told Nelson that he was looking for the restroom. After my partner returned from the restroom, we met in the restaurant bar and I ordered the dessert because my partner did not feel comfortable interacting with Nelson after the interaction he and Nelson just had. There was only one guest in the bar area and my partner did not want to sit at the bar because of how unwelcome Nelson made him feel. We decided to sit in the very large, comfy (and beautiful) couches in the restaurant area. My partner leaned back to enjoy the ambiance and began to scroll on his phone. As we were waiting for the dessert to come out, Nelson yells across the bar, “WHEN YOU COME INTO THIS BAR, YOU SIT UP STRAIGHT! THIS IS NOT YOUR HOUSE OR A BEDROOM YOU DO NOT LAY ON MY FURNITURE!” Our mouthes along with the young lady’s at the bar hit the floor in disbelief because we could not believe he was speaking to us in that manner. We tried to ignore Nelson, thinking he would stop but he continued to yell at us as if we were children. We got up and walked over to the bar to get his name and manager’s name (both of which he refused to provide) and he proceeded to tell us, “I AM THE FOOD & BEVERAGE MANAGER! I MAKE THE RULES” (both of which we later found were untrue). He also yelled to us “I HAVE CHILDREN OLDER THAN YOU!” As if that were a good excuse for him to be speaking to any guest in that manner. Nelson also told us, “I DONT CARE WHO YOU CALL OR TELL” when we let him know that we would be following up with his manager regarding his behavior. In the middle of getting scolded by Nelson, Rahan (the Front Desk Agent), walked over and made no attempt to deescalate the situation. He immediately told us that we should leave without even trying to figure out wha
Falls Church Marriott Fairview Park

During my 2 week stay at the Marriott Fairview Park I was treated most professionally by the staff. My initial room accommodations were not quite satisfactory, yet the front office hurried to quickly remedy any concerns I had and followed up afterwards. The lobby area was under construction and the site restaurant was temporarily relocated; given that the staff/reception never missed a beat in making you feel welcomed and comfortable. I just want to extend my gratitude and appreciation to the OPS Manager/Duane and his entire staff!! It's trying being away on business and it's wonderful to find a hotel that truly cares about their guests! Whenever I travel to the DC area I'll be staying at the Marriott Fairview Park, one of my homes away from home! I can't wait to see their new lobby!! Parking was complimentary. E.R.
Comfort Inn Herndon-Reston

I have stayed here before, and it has come down hill. I'm trying to think of where I started. Ah - I asked the clerk on duty about breakfast - he said scrambled eggs were part of breakfast. Nope . Breakfast sandwich, with no real information on the package itself. The breakfast was far below what I have seen over the past six months, Minor things like enough coffee for two sharing a king size bed. Nope. Two packs of regular , one of decaf. The tub/shower had a used bar of motel soap in the soap dish. I had problems getting on the internet. While I finally did, the clerk on duty said, ”Sorry. Can't help you.” Despite what Choice Hotels wants staff to do, they no longer provide a morning paper to Choice Privilege members - and I'm a diamond member. The same is true of their Dulles shuttle. - the shuttle sign is up but the bus is hidden behind the motel . They still have the sign and then bus, but they are not using it. It is obvious that some sort of improvement is going on, but I saw no action on it. I really think that Choice Hotels needs to investigate this motel. I am disappointed based on my last stay here.

Great location! There are so many restaurants right around the block on King Street. This is a very nice hotel. An oldie but goodie. Very large atrium where you can sit and enjoy the included breakfast every morning. VIP happy hour was perfect. We would definitely stay there again. Clean and friendly.
