Sextantio le Grotte Della Civita

A special experience. Take a taxi for 10 Euros from the long-distance bus station to the hotel. The driver took the initiative to call the hotel staff to help carry the luggage because there are steps to go up. The hotel maintains the most primitive accommodation conditions, mainly lighting by candles. There is no TV. The hot water was out of condition and was not repaired for a while. As compensation, we delayed the check out and left Matera at night. The breakfast was great. The front desk is also very welcoming. Help us boil hot water, print boarding passes, and call a taxi. There are many cave hotels in the area, this one is very authentic and high-quality.
B&B San Rocco

The B&B is lovely. In the center and inside the stones. We spent a wonderful night, inside it is very fresh unlike the high temperatures outside. Well cared for, spotlessly clean and the owner exquisite. He made us a super breakfast, in addition to the usual croissants, fruit and juices, he made us find bread and tomatoes made with their products that I think I will never forget. Highly recommended !!!
Thymus Residence nei Sassi
4.7/550 Reviews
We loved our stay in Matera at Thymus Residence. We had a rental car and they made a reservation at a secure garage about 15 minutes from the BnB for our two night (can't drive inside Matera-- only cars w. permits are allowed). Cost was 20 euro/day- cash payment. Free shuttle arrived right on time and was a flawless transfer. We interacted mostly with Veronica, who was a great host-- providing restaurant recommendations and calling to book us reservations for both nights. The room is wonderful! Truly a cave, but a small window in the bathroom and larger window at the front to let in light. The renovation of the room was great-- as is the character of the entire city-- wow, it was a magical couple of days-- despite the 37 degrees heat! The breakfast each morning was tasty-- with sweet and savoury options- all delicious and served on the terrace in the shade, with a perfect view of the sassi surrounds. We really enjoyed walking around exploring the city and learning about its interesting history. You will not be dissappointed!
