Hotel Dorado la 70

Medellin|0.99km from Brassia Spa y Estetica IPS
Three men walked into my room during my stay unannounced while two of my roommates were undressed and hotel management won’t do anything about it!! I rented 9 hotel rooms and a conference room at Hotel Dorado for 30 leaders of my nonprofit org for 4 days. On day 2 of our stay a mysterious man bolted into our room unannounced and saw my roommate completely undressed. Why would someone outside of our party could have access to our room!? We went to hotel managers Joanna and Marco and they won’t do a single thing about it. They tell us it is not a big deal just “a matter of perspective”. Shortly after reporting this, Marco charged into our room with another man behind him completely unannounced, didn’t knock, just opened the door while yet ANOTHER girl was undressing and would not leave the room claiming he is trying to “fix the problem”. Marco and Joanna need to be fired! At this point all the girls in my organization were scared, some were crying, we all felt completely UNSAFE. The management was harassing us. They have camera’s on every floor and when we asked they claim there is no footage of these events (how convenient!!!) so now we are filing suit against them so they can release the footage to us. On top of all of this mental &emotional trauma my girls went through,I spent over $3,000 for hotel rooms, conference room, and hotel catering and the hotel won’t refund us for the services and rooms we didn’t use after the incidents. This would be THE VERY LEAST they can do.

Pros: room is stunning. Restaurant food is amazing. Cons: check in took 20 mins even though my room was ready, I woke up 6 times in the night from live music playing downstairs and from the street (it didn’t stop til around 6am), terrace is under construction, no gym or amenities, tried to order room service/food from the restaurant downstairs and it was a pain. I whatsapped them and they called me back a couple times to figure it out. I used this room for a photoshoot so it was worth it but definitely wouldn’t recommend staying here, maybe on a weeknight would be better.

The only star is Noralys, the person responsible for the reception. It was always very friendly, warm and attentive. I was leaving a parachute to get out of the street as it was raining. The safe was very small. I didn't even fit a tablet. I had no instructions. I had to call the reception to ask for help to use it. When trying to open it, it didn't work. I had to ask for help again. The hotel was very comfortable and very comfortable. The room was free. The lobby had a refrigerator with drinks for sale. There was nothing to eat. The hotel offers only the option that the guest asks homes to a few fast food sites located around. The room was very narrow. The bed was almost completely filled. The windows of many rooms were going to the corridor and had smerilated glasses (photo). There was not even a chair or a closet. The hotel was very comfortable and the hotel was very comfortable and was very comfortable. The hotel is very comfortable and very comfortable. I asked the shopper if the orange juice had sugar and he answered me, ”This is one of the best juices in the city.” No comments. The experience was nothing memorable, rather medium. Just for one night if a basic option of accommodation in the sector is needed and nothing better is found.
Hotel Bolivariana Plaza Medellin

I originally had booked with Ayenda 1234 Imperio 70. I had arranged a driver to pick me up as I arrived late at night. When he parked in front of the Ayenda I begged him not to leave me at that place. There had been a soccer game in the nearby stadium and there were people drinking, smoking pot in the street by the dozens. I did not feel safe. He took me to the Hotel Bolivariana Plaza. I spent 2 nights there. The room was very small, tiny, but it was very clean and the window faced a hallway, not what I expected but the location was much better than the other. It is a quiet street. Breakfast is included. I throught I could stay for the rest of the trip but they were fully booked OR I could move to 2 different rooms. I decided to move and for the same price I stayed at a much better hotel, way better. It has very nice hand painted signs all over, very inspired for self-confidence. I loved each. Breakfast has not a great variety but it is a good breakfast. It is served, not a buffet. Very basic and you have a choice of coffee or hot chocolate, which is nice because I don't drink coffee. That is where I first had an ”arepa”. Unfortunately I have an intolerance for corn, it just stays in my stomach all day, so for my second breakfast I declined the offer of arepas. I am very greatful for their hospitality and for taking me in that night so late without a reservation.

This hotel really is not suitable for tourist at the moment. The first time I stayed here in 2020 it was it was fairly good, the second time there were problems and now ONLY problems during the 4 days I've been here. During that time the water has cut off THREE times ! Today it cut out towards end of my shower. I had to go downstairs to the reception cloakroom to shave and clean my teeth etc. The man at reception told me he'd fixed it.  I went back up to my room and it wasn't working, even though it was on in other parts of my floor, but not in my room !? Back down to reception, back up to my room with reception staff, finally working ! The first night there was no TV signal. I've noticed that staff turnover is very high, the reception staff seem very indifferrent and even demotivated. When walking into the hotel thry don”t even pay attention to who you are !? I could be anybody, what about security ? The breakfast staff are nice but the service is somewhat chaotic ! You have to ask several times to get what you ask for. They seem to work in a panic instead of calmly, and taking away things I haven't even finished ! Example, I asked for Cornflakes with milk. The first time I got Fruit Loops with hot milk (!?) and said they didn't have any Cornflakes. I asked them again, so they went away and found some ! Then they brought me back Cornflakes with yogurt ! Finally got cornflakes with cold milk on 4th time of asking. Small thing but annoying ! 2 days ago they were bashing, hammering and dragging tables ALL DAY and into the evening above my room, for some function they were organizing. It doesn't take all day to do that !! Today again there was some hammering going on from 7 AM on a Saturday !! The hotel staff always smile at you snd say everything is OK etc AFTER the problems happen and try to appease you etc. but the guest here comes a very distant second !! Threy need to avoid or if not possible predict and at least INFORM YOU first about work going on, water being cut off etc, and have at least SOME respect for the customer !! Maybe Colombian people tolerate those things more ? But at the moment this hotel really isn't suitable for foreign tourists. I noticed I'm about the only one there at the moment, maybe its not a coincidence !? Very much doubt I'll be staying here again !!!

We would have rated this hotel at 5* but a checking out issue spoilt the whole stay for us! Yes the room needed a little attention - the shower nozzle hung down out of the ceiling, the shower handle came off the temperature regulator every time you adjusted it, the toilet seat kept falling down & had to be held up for me (male!),, the toilet itself was not fixed equi distant in the space between the shower screen & the wall & made sitting on it uncomfortable as you would then be squashed ........but none of these were major & would not have impacted our stay very seriously. We enjoyed the breakfast & the staff, generally were very good & helpful Upon checking out, we left a 50,000 COP tip. Then, On getting into our taxi, we were called back to be told we needed to pay 50,000 COP for a ”broken door key card”. The previous evening the door card did not work & it was replaced with nothing at that time being said. Now apparently we had ”damaged” it I refused to pay & said if they wanted the money to take it from the 50,000 COP tip I have stayed in hundreds of hotels using electronic key cards & if they ever had a problem, they were reprogrammed or replaced without issue Never have I encountered this situation before & I was annoyed & very disappointed that after a great stay, this was how it ended. As I said, this would probably have been a 5* review.....
