Went for Melbourne cup and while menu wasn’t as advertised I couldn’t fault menu or service. Service was 5 star. Food was awesome! I can’t stop talking about the friendly service though. Service wins every time for me. Would 100% go again without fail.
Holiday Inn Express Newcastle, an IHG Hotel

This was booked for us by friends who live in Newcastle. We were very happy with the room and the amenities. The free breakfast provided plenty of choice but the fruit provided was unripe pears and this was summer when local fruit is in abundance. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and overall our two night stay was very pleasant

advantage: -Large house, two-storey cottage, multiple balconies and toilets -Clean, lots of daily necessities including washing machine dryer and washing powder -Free parking, indoor garage -In a cozy neighborhood Disadvantage -Some distance from tourist attractions, it is good to book a car here, it is best to avoid without a car -After arriving at the hotel, it was found that the hotel did not give us the password to open the door (perhaps the Ctrip intermediary did not send us), which took us a long time to obtain the password to enter the door. -There is no hotel front desk, if there are problems

We booked this property as it was suggested by our team manager for a weekend competition held in Newcastle. None from our team has stayed here before so we were all going in blindly and we only had reviews from different sites to go on with. Believe me that reviews were overflowing with more negatives than positives. That got us worried from the start as we have young teens travelling with us. With this said, I can only speak from my Family’s experience. We booked a 2 bedroom apartment on the first floor that has an outdoor balcony with an outdoor setting enough to sit 4. The apartment allocated to us we were very pleased. Floorboards in main living space and bedrooms. There were 2 separate showers and toilets which was handy for a family of 4. The apartment has a washing machine and dryer and laundry detergent sachets provided. Kitchen is equipped with necessities and all what we required for a long weekend stay. Sachets of Coffee, tea, small individual milk and biscuits were provided too. The bedrooms were clean and we were provided with cotton sheets, there were a few woollen blankets in linen cupboard provided for cooler nights, but since my children cannot use these blankets I had to make a special request for a proper quilt and cotton covers and it was attended to straight away. There are selections of pillows provided so do check the wardrobes/ cupboards. Huge 3 TV’s in Living Room and both bedrooms. Netflix, Stan etc included. Wi-fi included. The decor is very simple but pleasing to the eye. Loading Zone in front of building. I had no problem with the booking and it was straightforward and the staffs for after hours calls are quick to reply. The cafe on ground floor “Mockingbird” serves good food and ranked #3 / 20 in best coffee in Newcastle city which I gave it a thumbs up for coffee drinker like myself. CONS: - Parking isn’t in same building and cost $20/ ngt. Building to park is 2-3 mins walk. We didn’t book any parking and we parked on the streets which has lots of lights and side streets has CCTV. - Leather Couch in living room has a rip, property owner can address this and is easy fix. But comfy couch to sit on. - No reception in building. - Self Check -In Codes use on lifts and another to apartments. Annoying at first but we looked at it positively “ keeping us safe” . So keep those codes handy with you all the time. Overall, I can recommend this property and we won’t mind staying here again.
