We have visited and stayed at the pub several times and always loved it. Unfortunately we weren’t able to stay at the pub this time as it was way too expensive (for the price of the room we managed to stay elsewhere and have a drink, starter and main each), but decided to still go for dinner, what a disappoin**ent. I don’t know what’s happened with the quality of the food?! You definitely don’t get what you pay for. For £8, I had a slab of pâté but small triangles of brioche. I’ve never had pâté with brioche? My husband had a buttermilk chicken for a starter, smallest portion again for £8. The worst was the main, chicken caesar salad which wasn’t even one.. no sign of a lettuce leaf but included all the salad that is normally scraped to the side of a plate, bacon burnt to a crisp, the smallest egg, hardly any dressing and the smallest shaving of parmesan. My husband did have the tomahawk which he said was nice but quite expensive for what you get. We didn’t even bother with dessert. It was such a shame to see how much the food quality has changed and what was a tradition will probably now change as just can’t justify the amount we paid for the quality we got.

Valentines night - we were celebrating the fact we had our first date at this pub. So disappointed! We didn’t want the whole valentines menu so I asked for a rib eye steak from the valentines menu which was refused even though it was very quiet in the pub. We then ordered 2 sirloins - one was sent back as it was ordered medium rare but it arrived well done. Both our steaks were inedible as they were so tough and we left them. We explained to the waiter who took them off the bill. It’s such a shame as it’s a lovely pub but the service we received was disinterest. Whilst we were grateful that the steak was taken off the final bill, it was valentines night….we felt that the waiter didn’t really care. We won’t be going back sadly - especially as it’s where we first met.

We were warmly greeted on arrival and personally shown to our room. Very helpful gentleman carried our case, much appreciated! Our family room was enormous! 2 very comfortable double beds. There was a wonderful attention to detail throughout the room, lovely little details like fresh milk in the fridge and nice toiletries in the bathroom.

Visited with 3 work colleagues for the Chris**as Party lunch Great a**ospheric pub and friendly staff. Turkey main was excellent, one of the best. Turkey was wrapped in bacon with stuffing. Cauliflower Cheese, Red Cabbage, Pigs in Blankets, Whole Carrots and Sprouts. Would return again.

Visited several times before for food and have been really impressed by the food and service. The pub has a broad menu which could be the issue. Seemed very rushed, and the food not to the usual standard with the vegetables a bit soggy and over cooked.

Lovely staff . Clean not very warm. Cod and chips were ok. Dry mushy peas. The chocolate sphere? Mmmmm...... It was a chocolate sphere, with a curl of caramel ice cream ( not even a scoop) sat on a pile of biscuit crumbs. Definitely not worth the £10.50 price! I tastedmy daughters chocolate pecan pie it was stale and quite the most disgusting dessert I have ever eaten. The raspberry sorbet was nice but the chocolate pastry base didn't taste of chocolate and it was soft. The filling has left a horrible aftertaste. Ordered a coffee to wash away the taste and that was cold so an expensive mistake eating here.

Ordered a lite bite beef Lasagne when it arrived it was just a small bowl of tomato puree and layers and layers of pasta sheets. Decided to have a pudding I ordered the chocolate pecan pie …. The base was stale, the pecans were soft and the gooey middle was revolting. The only nice part was the raspberry sorbet that was delicious. Cost was £7:95 wasn’t worth the price. Staff are lovely but wasn’t interested in feed back. Shame as the pub comes with great reviews just shame about the quality and taste of the food!

Stayed for one night, all the staff were really welcoming. We had a meal in the restaurant which was delicious, and then stayed (in room 5) for B&B. The room was lovely, bed comfortable, the shower was hot, and had everything we needed (tea/coffee etc. and toiletries). 100% recommended if staying in Dorset, on en-route between destinations (we were travelling from Devon to Kent).
