Best Hotels in Saas-Almagell, Switzerland

Location across from trainstation with frequent shuttle train connections to Zermatt, good Halfboard food, after ski relaxation (Sauna, steamroom, whirlpool and Gym), great comfortable room with view of Kleines Matterhorn, friendly staff, and skis left in Zermatt ski rental shop near the train station so that we never had to carry boots or skis on train. Brilliant holiday, we'll be back.

Superb hotel This was a special trip to celebrate a big birthday. The hotel is wonderful. We had a suite which was spacious and comfortable with a balcony looking on to the mountains. The service in the bar and restaurant was first class. We were half board and there is a set meal for half board guests. However, unlike other hotels we could swap courses from the a la carte menu. I actually only did this once as the half board menu was so good. The spa is beautiful with a lovely pool big enough for children to splash and adults to swim. There is an efficient shuttle service to the ski slopes which we used in the mornings. You can return on the shuttle but we decided to walk as it is only 5 minutes away. The hotel staff are extremely helpful and courteous and nothing is too much trouble. Saas Fee is a beautiful village, traffic free apart from the electric hotel shuttles and occasional taxis. 3 things I would change. 1.The hotel is too hot overnight and there is no way to turn all of the radiators off. We cooled down by opening the balcony door which is not very environmentally friendly. We did ask staff to help us turn radiators off but this didn’t seem to be possible. 2. The evening turn down service was set between 6 and 7- right at the time when we were getting ready to go to dinner. We did say to the housekeeper that we went to dinner at 7 but she wasn’t able to change the time. 3. There is a luxury bathroom with a jacuzzi bath. However we never did discover how to turn it on. There is a separate toilet cubicle but the main part of the bathroom has a completely clear glass wall into the bedroom meaning no privacy when using the bathroom. Can we be the only guests who like privacy when using a bathroom?

The good and the bad, first the bad. This hostel is located on steep hilly steps, is such a torture to climb up with yr trolley luggage, worst if you have a heavy big luggage. I am out of breath and relief when I finally reached. The check in time is now 4 pm instead of 3 pm. At the reception lobby, there's a glass panel for those sitting there with a good view but the glass look like no glasd and I walk into it, please be careful if you are there. We book a double bed room with bath and toilet attsched. The room is very small in size and if you happen to be big size with big luggage, you may not find comfort. This hostel is 5 levels and there is no lift at all. Again is a torture dragging your luggage to your room. Now the good about this hostel. It has a beautiful view from the lobby and from your bedroom window the view is stunning. The best part is the breakfast, we really enjoy the good quality breakfast. So it made up for all the bad points.

This is a hotel next to Niglous station. Get off the bus it takes 3 minutes to get there. People here are really very friendly. As soon as we got off the train, there was a bus driver who took the initiative to stop and tell us the direction of the hotel. Since we went back very late, the self-check-in was not smooth. The bar uncle and the customers inside the hotel enthusiastically helped us find a way. Give us a lot of warmth. The windows of this room are very large and can be opened all of them. Extremely quiet and the perfect choice. The breakfast is also very good. This place is three stops from Zermatt and takes about half an hour by car. We will come again.

We would not stay here again. The 1980s revisited... Pros: Big room, great view mountains (not the Matterhorn), close to train station, huge balcony, parking beneath the hotel. Nice sized bathroom. Breakfast was satisfactory. A good starting point for a trip to Zermatt, if you're not going to stay in Zermatt. There are some great walking paths near this hotel. Cons: Ugly...brown...shag...carpeting. Orange furniture. Worn linens, mattresses and pillows. Traffic noise was a problem because we had to open the windows for ventilation during this warm spell. No ice was available for our room. No in-room refrigerator. Service staff was indifferent. If you are driving and going for a quick trip to Zermatt, I recommend parking your car in Tasch and leave your big luggage in the trunk. Take your carry-on and the train to Zermatt and stay for one (maybe two) nights there to see the sights. Then take the return train to Tasch to retrieve your car. I don't recommend staying in Tasch.

Welcoming and comfortable hotel, luxurious but not stuffy. Our Superior Double Room was comfortable, warm and nicely furnished, balcony had a gorgeous view of Saas-Fee and the mountains. Breakfast buffet was included and had lots of delicious choices. We used the sauna twice and it was terrific (have to reserve in advance during Covid). We also chose to eat dinner at the restaurant and enjoyed good meals with great service on both nights. All staff we met were very friendly and helpful. Nice touches like cake in the lobby and a little gift at checkout made our stay memorable.

Very cozy and clean, the staff checked our covid certificates and immediately accommodated us in our rooms. Breakfast was included in our price, we were asked what we wanted to have (croissant, bread, coffee order and ham/cheese) the previous day. I want to believe it was due to corona restrictions that they did not include these on the breakfast buffet, because one thin slice of bread was not sufficient; although we got a second serving when we asked. The rooms were warm, clean and all in all, a very decent option for the otherwise ”overpriced” Zermatt.
