✅ Great location (not so far from port and other tourist spots - situated in the middle)
✅ Near the beach (2-min walk)
✅ Well-maintained rooms, clean
✅ has their own restaurant (self-service; you need to wash your own dishes, clean as you go)
✅ Great garden view (plantito/a approved 🪴)
✅ friendly owners/staff
⛔️ wished there were more amenities (no TV and/or ref)

La Vida Hostel is a cozy retreat that stands out in Samal Island. Ninio, the owner and artist, wowed us with his dedication and warm hospitality. The hostel feels like a live-in gallery, surrounded by nature's beauty.
Breakfasts here are fantastic – don't miss out on the French toast! The place has a chilled-out vibe that's perfect for kicking back after exploring the island. Plus, it's super close to Peñaplata town, making it easy to rent a scooter and go on an adventure.
If you're into art, good food, and friendly faces, La Vida is the spot. It's a simple, welcoming place that's ideal for soaking up the local scene. Definitely worth the stay!

The courtyard is cozy, quiet, and relaxing. Mangoes drop from the trees every day, and picking them up becomes a daily treat. They're incredibly sweet. If you don't expect too much from the room amenities, staying here is quite pleasant. Overall, I highly recommend it. 👍🏻
Transportation: Following the directions from reception, take the bus from Davao and then the boat. It's a breeze, 75₱ (approximately 9 bucks per person) to the warehouse, and it's about a 2.5km tutu ride away.
For families, after inquiring by phone, we can book a twin bed for 750₱ for the child, including breakfast. It's quite friendly.
You can book a tutu tour around the island for 1500₱, negotiate your own price. Motorbike rentals are 500₱ + 50 delivery fee, and you can enjoy a durian every day. The tuna restaurant across from the warehouse is excellent.
I'll definitely come back if I have the chance.

This is the best hotel, I liked everything, great breakfasts, delicious fish dinner, we lived like in nature. They helped me get a scooter, we visited the beaches, the waterfall, the bat park 🦇. We will come here again!
Currently enjoying my stay here. It's a nice retreat with great artwork on display at the pavilion by the hostel owner. Mango shakes here are really good! A great place to try local cuisine too. Cannot wait to come back!

So the wife and I came across this place decided to visit as it is very close to us. Upon arrival found the staff very friendly and helpful , reception full of art in various forms which made it feel very relaxing , we booked in advance they have a very small and intimate resto again clean and tidy with the usual Philippine cuisine , food was very good and over all worth a visit if you want some peace and quiet from the city.
Response from Property: Hello Mr S, Thank you for kind review and for the stay. Happy Holidays! Regards, La Vida Hostel Team

A small-scale hostel with a few rooms. The bad thing is that you find ants everywhere. Of course, you cannot blame the owner Ninjo for this, but it can be annoying. Apart from that we had a nice stay. The rooms are spacious and equipped with air conditioning and a hot water shower. You have to take into account that the power goes out regularly, say every day, but this is quite normal throughout the Philippines. The breakfast is fine but also simple. We had a great stay, but if you have high standards then this is not recommended. Luckily I like simple 😀
