This was our fourth visit, and after three excellent stays a couple of years ago, we were really looking forward to returning. I booked a hot tub room for my partner’s birthday, spending over £400. The room décor was lovely, and we really enjoyed our evening meal (we both ordered steak) as well as a nice breakfast the following morning. Unfortunately, the stay was let down by the noise from the room above us. They played loud, chavvy music well into the night, and it completely overpowered the music we had playing in our own room. There appeared to be little to no soundproofing, as we could hear every movement and sound from upstairs — and I mean everything. At 1:30am I felt forced to call reception to complain. Staff did speak to the guests above, but the disturbances continued regardless, leaving us unable to sleep. To make matters worse, church bells rang every 15 minutes throughout the night. I understand the hotel cannot control other guests or the village surroundings, but for the price we paid, the lack of even basic soundproofing is completely unacceptable. Sadly, the lack of sleep completely ruined my partner’s birthday. We were so exhausted that we had to cancel our plans for the following day. To their credit, the staff at checkout were understanding and removed the charges for our evening meal and drinks, which we did appreciate. However, this didn’t make up for what was meant to be a special stay but turned into a very disappointing experience.
