After a busy time over christmas nice to have a chill and relax with my partner in beautiful surroundings. Nice start to our break to be upgraded to a master suite 'Squealers'. Initial wow! factor on entering room. Comfort, space and luxury touches. Room clean but above floor level dusting required but not a big issue. Beautiful restaurant with good choice menu and super friendly and helpful staff. Slight negative on main course, over seasoned for our taste i.e very salty. But all courses well presented and served in a timely manner. We had breakfast in our room. Hot good qualty ingredients and tasty. Overall a positive experience. Would highly recommend and would hope management take note on small improvements mentioned to make it a perfect experience!

My partner booked this as a surprise and I was blown away with this place. We only live 20 minutes down the road in Durham but this is a hidden gem. We’ve stayed all over but nowhere matches the quirky rooms and lovely atmosphere of the pub and restaurant. She booked the stay, dine and breakfast deal and everything was perfect. From the very warm welcome of the lovely staff member who checked us in, the room itself with huge bed and gorgeous decor and character (we stayed in piggly wiggly), the amazing food and lovely atmosphere, but I think most importantly, the loveliest polite staff. Every staff member who we dealt with last night were so lovely, and the 2 ladies looking after us at breakfast this morning were really really lovely too. I think it makes such a difference, you could have the nicest place in the world but if the staff aren’t great it ruins the whole experience for me. This place never has to worry about that, they have the most lovely place AND the most lovely staff. A lovely stay and will definitely be back for food with other friends and hopefully another stay too! Thanks for a lovely stay and please pass on our thanks to the staff for being so nice.

Some very good, some not so good, mainly very good Super room, spacious quirky, huge tin bath which we both enjoyed, seperately I might add. Good sized bathroom with shower. The only issue was not cleanliness but dust in the room. I'm not saying it hadn't been dusted but there was dust flying around that settled on surfaces. Perhaps it's the nature of the room we were in but be aware if you are dust sensitive that may be an issue for you. There is an outside area with hot tub which we did not use. The food was really good, excellent choice at breakfast and dinner, every meal was cooked to a good standard. Overall service was good with a couple of exceptions. You can tell someone who has worked in establishments like this for a while. They are able to deal with people and have an air of confidence in managing situations, even difficult ones. The Immaculate Pig has a few of these types who were excellent, unfortunatley the one we encountered at dinner on the first night who wasn't. Initially she advised there was no booking for us, as we had booked at check in we knew there was. On being shown to a table we were given menus but not advised about the specials board which we only discovered later. The water we asked for didn't materialise and our order taken in an unprofessional manner. A slight issue was the bar after our meal. The first night it was fine but the second raucous and noisy as it is open to the public, we would have preferred a quiet reidents area. Overall we would have no hesitation in returning though.

This was our fourth visit, and after three excellent stays a couple of years ago, we were really looking forward to returning. I booked a hot tub room for my partner’s birthday, spending over £400. The room décor was lovely, and we really enjoyed our evening meal (we both ordered steak) as well as a nice breakfast the following morning. Unfortunately, the stay was let down by the noise from the room above us. They played loud, chavvy music well into the night, and it completely overpowered the music we had playing in our own room. There appeared to be little to no soundproofing, as we could hear every movement and sound from upstairs — and I mean everything. At 1:30am I felt forced to call reception to complain. Staff did speak to the guests above, but the disturbances continued regardless, leaving us unable to sleep. To make matters worse, church bells rang every 15 minutes throughout the night. I understand the hotel cannot control other guests or the village surroundings, but for the price we paid, the lack of even basic soundproofing is completely unacceptable. Sadly, the lack of sleep completely ruined my partner’s birthday. We were so exhausted that we had to cancel our plans for the following day. To their credit, the staff at checkout were understanding and removed the charges for our evening meal and drinks, which we did appreciate. However, this didn’t make up for what was meant to be a special stay but turned into a very disappointing experience.

A very disappointing birthday lunch with a friend. The lunch time menu was confusing and expensive. The staff were unhelpful and I feel deliberately misled us. I feel totally conned and will not be returning!

I booked 'The Whole Hog' room for my husbands birthday. Couldn't fault the booking service at all. The room is really well equipped, everything was ready for when we checked in at 3pm. The hot tub was really warm and lovely. The sauna although not to my taste, my husband thought it was great! As part of the booking I paid for dinner, £35 per person allowance. You did then have to pay for drinks, no problems it is stated at booking. We both order the turkey dinner, which came with a beautifully thick piece of turkey. Everything was cooked really nice. My husband had christmas pudding for dessert which he said was nice but hot! Like it had been microwaved. I had the panna cotta again really nice. Breakfast was also really nice and well presented. Overall we had a wonderful night, the room was comfortable and we slept really well and had a good meal. All staff were really attentive and the place was wonderfully decorated for christmas.
