Hebei Hotel

Very nice hotel, even for foreigners. English is not really spoken but you can always use Google translate for simple demands. The rooms are big and with all the necessary comodities. The bed was comfortable. It can sometimes be a little noisy as there is currently a construction site in front of it (like really early in the morning) but if you bring good earplugs you should be fine. The hotel is very close Shanghai train station and metro stops so it's very easy to move around.

The hotel is very old, the windows do not close, the laminate flooring is falling apart. They promised to repair the window, but they didn't do anything. A towel for 3 people was brought only on the third day after numerous requests. The air conditioner blows very strongly and is directed at the beds. We had breakfast once out of 4, we didn't go any more. The only advantage is that it is close to the train station and that's where the advantages end.

Positive: Nice modern bed and bathroom, comfortable bed, good shower. 10 mins walk from Shanghai Station(train+metro) Negative: - In front of the hotel is a large construction site which starts making drilling noises around 7 AM(not everyday), which will most likely wake you up. - terrible breakfast, only from 7 till 9. And for a buffet, very little choice, but oke it's a budget hotel. When you arrive at 8 am or later...half of it is already finished and everything is cold even the rice porridge. Why? They put everything in these special containers, so it can stay warm, but for some reason it is always cold, like they not turn it on (keep warm mode). The 2nd day we came at breakfast around 8:15 am we literally took the last bits of the breakfast, the guests coming to have breakfast after that, had pretty much nothing to choose. Maybe 1 cooked egg and a sausage. After this experience we decided to have breakfast outside, even though we paid for 4 times breakfast. Also both times at breakfast we saw the staff eating from the breakfast buffet, which I normally don't mind....however, in this case it did mean....no to little breakfast for the guests arriving around 8:00-8:30. Would only stay again if the construction site in front of hotel is finished and book without breakfast because any meal in a restaurant outside the Shanghai railway station is better than what they serve here.

The location is hard to find . Cleaning is not upto mark. We booked breakfast but there isn't a single English breakfast option for foreigners. Only Chinese food available at the property. Elevator had also stopped working and we were asked to take stairs to the 9th floor 🙃
