Skiathos Avaton Hotel, Philian Hotels & Resorts

The only way I can describe this hotel is grim. The photographs and previous reviews are wonderful but this hotel was very dirty, photos attached of our "extremely small bathroom". The breakfast was cold and poor. Had hi hopes for Skiathos, which didn't disappoint but would avoid this hotel. The shower was disgusting, the shower head was cleaned on request but should of been unnecessary.

Just returned from 10 nights at the Avaton Hotel. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel. Standard - Excellent for a small hotel. Location - 10/15 walk down a slight incline to the road. Town either along a busy road (no footpaths) or you could take a path which is a little more challenging for those who struggle walking. Away from the hustle & bustle of town, very quiet. Pool area - Small but always sun loungers available because most people are out on trips or at the beaches. Sun loungers are so comfy. Bar - Cost of drinks was typical of the area, beer 5 euro or cocktail 10 plus. Not sure if they serve snacks during the day. Restaurant (Black Pepper) - Amazing food, ate here twice, which is unusual for us, very rarely eat in the hotel at night. The menu doesn't alter, but enough choice for 2/3 nights. Staff - They couldn't do enough for you, considering it was the last week of 6 month stint they still had a smile on their face & would go out of their way to say good morning. Any trips. advice or car/quad hire you may need speak to the staff. They'll either advise or book it for you at no extra cost. The negatives are. Room & bathrooms - immaculately clean, on the small size, but very nicely decorated etc. Needed storage above the decent size wardrobe but they'd boxed it off. Maid came in everyday, even though we said we was OK. Cats - The island has lots of them, wouldn't harm one, but don't want to be pestered by them either. 2 in town on separate evening decided to urinate on me. However I was only bitten 3 times, so maybe that wasn't a bad thing.

Lovely hotel. Location not too bad but you are a bit out of town. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are adequate and facilities good. Free wi-fi. Impeccably clean throughout. The breakfast is good, plentiful and lots of choice. Good quality food served in the restaurant on an evening but choice is limited and it isn’t cheap for what you get. There are no ‘snacks’ either, for example, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, gyros. Just full plates. However, one massive problem for us. CATS and plenty of them. Seven around the table the last time we ate there. Since then we have eaten out. Some may say ‘what’s the problem’? Fair comment but both myself and my husband have an allergy to cats. Eyes swell up, laboured breathing, itchy skin to name but three things. Had we known about these creatures we would have gone somewhere else. Giving you the heads up just in case you have a problem with cats. The most annoying thing is that guests are putting plates, serviettes or just throwing food on the floor for these animals. For us the good things don’t compensate. Won’t be returning.

We came to Skiathos for daughters wedding. Unfortunately we got stuck indoors with Storm Daniel. Fortunately we were all kept safe due to the hard work from the staff. The staff worked extremely hard to clean everywhere despite having loses and damages in their homes. Avaton hotel had extensive damage outside. They continued to clean throughout they did everything possible to keep the hotel open. We made new friends. Just got to say this Georgia absolutely Beautiful. All the staff amazing. Already booked our return. 💕

We arrived at the start of Storm Daniel not the best way to begin a holiday! By Tuesday afternoon the road had turned into a raging river and several cars got washed away from the car park. All the staff looked after us and even though the kitchen, reception and bar/restaurant area become flooded they made us sandwiches Tuesday evening and a hot lunch on Wednesday as we were under a local curfew. I can’t believe how hard all the staff team worked to get the hotel back up and running and to clean away the ankle deep mud from the bar/restaurant area. We had a pool view room and it was lovely to sit on the balcony and watch the sunrise in the morning, the hotel is in an ideal position as it is away from the main road, so quiet but within easy walking distance of Skiathos town and a few minutes from the local beach and bus stop 5. Excellent breakfast with a great range of hot and cold food and fresh fruit. But what really made our stay special was the all staff team, in particular Agni, Georgia, Tre, Thanos and Andreas. Agni and Georgia on reception, always had time for a chat, give advice and make bookings. As Agni lives on island all year round she is especially knowledgeable about Skiathos and recommended beaches and trips to do. Beautiful and funny Georgia always made us smile. Tre is an excellent restaurant/bar host and we really enjoyed eating in the restaurant at lunch time and evening (I have reviewed The Black Pepper restaurant separately). Thanos is excellent at his job and always made us feel welcome.

We arrived to brilliant sunshine at this fabulous hotel at the beginning of September and experienced fantastic service and hospitality from all the staff. Super friendly atmosphere makes you feel special. Excellent comfortable ground floor room with pool view. Brilliant choice of food at breakfast and comfortable bar surroundings with attentive staff. Then the storms hit - and the staff really rallied round working non stop to make sure we were safe. After 4 days sunshine returned, major clean up with help from holidaymakers during storm and unbelievable hard work. This hotel is exceptional, we have stayed before - beautiful grounds, close to the beach but secluded and a short walk to town. Special mention to staff, some names I forget but Agni, Fred, Stelios, Andreas, our cleaner lady (not sure how to spell her name) and of course the beautiful Georgia. We have already booked for next year and cannot wait!

Booked a 7-day stay through Jet2 (flying from Bristol). During the period Skiathos suffered the extreme weather flooding and torrents of water raced around the hotel and parts of reception. All the staff rallied around to look after the guests and ensured that we were all safe. After a herculean effort by the staff the hotel was back to normal within 2 days. The hotel is about 30m from the main road which means it is quiet and peaceful. The rooms are lovely, regularly serviced - and a good shower with plentiful hot water. All the staff are attentative and helpful. Georgia is a star employee - so helpful and cheerful. Yes, we would return and will recommend it to friends.

Loved our stay here in July. Our ground floor room was perfect facing the pool and was lovely to just walk out of the patio door to the pool area but didnt feel overlooked either. Bathroom was very small so might not suit everyone. The location is great only short walk down to beach or into town, better to walk along the small road parallel to the main road instead of taking the main road all the way to town. We are both vegan and there was soya or almond milk at breakfast as we had asked in advance. Also vegan cheese and yogurt for us. When we enquired about the evening meal options the bar manager produced a vegan menu for us shortly after, which was most appreciated so we had one evening meal here and a lunch by the pool. We found on first few days it wasnt immediately obvious they served lunch, as no menu was displayed on tables, on first day we went out as we thought they only served dinner. Great atmosphere and the pool and restaurant area are lovely. Our favourite place was the hanging chairs in the garden at the end of the afternoon and having an iced latte by the pool.
