I used this inn when I went on a tour of the Dewa Sanzan mountains. Since I had no plans and it was a sudden trip, I went without a reservation, but the owner was happy to accept me (the lodgings said it would be difficult without a reservation). Because I didn't do much research, I only visited Mt. Haguro this time, but he introduced me to a museum where I could experience touring the three mountains, and gave me some useful information for my next trip. As for the building, it has a very traditional inn feel and is very charming. It's strange that I felt so "comfortable" even though it was my first time here. Also, as others have written, despite the large size of the inn, it was well-cleaned throughout and had a "clean feeling". There is also a clean smoking room, so smokers can feel at ease. As for the food, it had a refined taste that "exceeded the average in all aspects". When it comes to food at inns, I usually imagine that one or two dishes are served that are quite peculiar, but I think that any Japanese person would find the food here "delicious". The eggplant tempura in particular was superb (the batter was crispy and the filling melted in your mouth). Overall, this is a very nice inn where you can feel the kindness of the owner and the landlady. I hope that inns like this will continue to exist in Japan forever (an unquestionable 5-star rating!).
