Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya

Tulum
A+++ Family Vacation (2 Adults, 3 Kids – 4, 5 and 7). You should not hesitate to book this super lux spot for your next vacation. We chose Conrad Tulum because it was on the CN Traveler best places to go. It did not disappoint. No way for the resort to be any more lux/beautiful or service to be better. Pictures are real and in some cases don’t do the place enough justice. Place is brand new. Further, the “kids club” was critical to our vacation. Shamara, Sehem, Ivette and Ruth all jointly run the kids club. It is a mix of indoor and outdoor activities from 945am-5pm (lunch with parents at Noon). Making pinatas, painting, reading, traditional Mexican art/crafts alongside pool (there is a specific pool about 2.5 feet-3 feet deep which is great for young children), beach, watersport, treasure hunts around the resort, etc. This is a very curated program for kids, exceptional in every aspect and also customizable based on what the kids may want to do. My kids are begging to return. Thank you to the staff at the kids club! Some other outstanding parts of the resort include morning wellness activities on the beach (Rafael is wellness coach speak to him on arrival for schedule/info) and the breakfast restaurant which has countless stations servicing traditional Mexican food cooked to order in front of you by chefs as well as a plethora of recognizable American breakfast items. It is a showstopper. Rivals the best breakfasts at the worlds finest hotels. Other restaurants on site (pan Asian, Japanese, Mexican, etc) are all superb. Guacamole, coconuts, champagne, wines all delivered poolside, beachside, etc. All the fine service you would expect. Some suggestions for the future as the hotel is brand new. Fix (or get a new) ATM that dispenses Mexican Peso so Americans can tip your exceptional staff in pesos without paying a silly exchange rate at the front desk. For the watersports company on the beach they need high end equipment to match the character of the hotel. For example, snorkel equipment must be the “dry” snorkels and they should have goggle defogger on site and used prior to each swim – price should be raised to accommodate this. Oscar is the local snorkel guide and he is REALLY GOOD. There is a massive set of coral reefs with tons of fish (some as big as sharks) outside the hotel but accessible only with the best equipment. (bring your own better yet!). Childrens food at the hotel/poolside could improve so that the kids have healthy and LOCAL choices (fruit/veg as sides, fun kid local fruit drink, less of the burger/chicken stuff that is on every menu in the USA). Guacamole ice cream cones (made from tortilla chips, delivered as fun snacks for free every day which the kids loved) were amazing and that should be on the menu! Finally, there are some comments about sea****. They have huge crews that come clean it up every morning (done by about 9/10am). Its not a nuisance. Probably by the time you wake its all gone and you never know its there. It

The hotel was beautiful, the rooms were stunning with amazing views. The staff were lovely, especially Frida who was incredibly helpful. I felt like I was in a movie with how stunning our room was - we had an ocean view with a balcony pool and access path to the beach / beach club. The bed was very comfortable and the double shower was really good. I loved that the hotel had a small gym, equiped with modern facilities. The hotel also has so many lovely small touches like welcome cocktails, good night desserts, “good morning” messages in the sand outside your room and fresh fruit ice blocks provided at the beach club. I feel there needs to be more transparency with the service charge on the bills - I didn’t realised until a few days into our stay that there was a further section to the bills we were signing that was covered by the booklet they present you with. The bill should be shown in full, or the total placed above where you sign. Whilst the staff were lovely, we often had items missing from our breakfast each morning. The breakfast is also quite small with 1 x serving of yogurt between two. It would be great if the pool could be cleaned during the stay, or some jets put into the pools to move the water around and into the filter. At current the water is stagnant and doesn’t get filtered and a lot of things fly into the pool from the garden. Whist this seems small, when you are paying the price you are for the hotel, these small things should be addressed.

We are leaving in the morning and wanted to report on our 10 night trip to GBP Tulum. First off, the staff is amazing. Rosalia and Jorge at The Truck particularly made our trip with their attention and personality. We hope to see them again one day. Jesus and Fredy specifically stood out at the buffet. This resort is perfect for kids of all ages. The water park area is superb and very well monitored. The kids club, though we did not partake in, looked very fun. The room, though updated recently, is showing a bit of wear but was always well cleaned by the staff. Mini bar restocked daily. A tip and a note for what you prefer goes a long way. We stayed in a two room suite which was amazing for a family of four. The food was very good and we specifically liked the Thali Indian restaurant. The Tequila Mexican would be our second choice. Dinner buffet was always full of quality choices. We enjoyed the nightly music by the pool. We did not get to experience the shows though as our kids sleep before they start. There was next to no sea**** on the beach during our time. It was beautiful but rocky in sections. Bring water shoes. My only complaints would be as follows: 1) The area by the kids water park at Tulum has a very slippery section by the transition from the larger kids area pool and the Vama fun area. You will see it marked with caution tape but they expanded the tape while we were there. I would recommend some etching of the concrete as it’s noticeably much more slick than the other pieces of concrete. 2) Play more local music during the day! We would have loved some Mexican, Latin, Spanish or Reggaeton music through the speakers but very rarely heard any. The playlist was a bit of a disappointment with bad pop music. We resorted to playing our own music. Please showcase local music! Hoping our next visit is not too far off. Thanks again to all staff.

Tulum
Second visit to this resort hotel. Loved it the first time so much we couldn’t wait to come back, but of course we had to wait until after the pandemic! Sadly, it didn’t quite live up to our memories. It certainly wasn’t as clean as the first time, lots of areas looked tired and grubby. Things like the showers and the balconies and also the pools and surrounding areas. It was sad really, because the staff were still as lovely and amazing as ever. It’s been four/ five years since last being here and I’m now vegetarian and was surprised at the lack of choice there is for those of us that don’t eat meat and fish. The beach bar literally only has chips and sometimes rice that’s a veggie option, so I wouldn’t say that was 5 * The saddest part was the sate of the beaches. There was rubbish and plastic everywhere, even on the turtle beach which they claim to pride themselves as eco friendly helping the turtles. This rubbish wasn’t cleared up the whole time we were here and just appeared to get worse and worse. I know that’s the environment we live in now, but when you’re claiming to be an ecological site this is poor, sadly poor. It was so sad to see turtle holes filled with rubbish and debris. The ATM didn’t work the whole time we were here (2 weeks) and they wouldn’t let us draw any money out on our cards, so we hadn’t got extra cash for tips or the twice weekly market. Sadly we won’t be returning or recommending it to our friends

This has to be the worst experience I have had the displeasure of experiencing. Please read carefully before yoh decide to book this hotel. Upon checking in (1/11/23) you are asked to leave a deposit for incidentals. We booked 2 rooms so 2 deposits. At first when you enter, the room is clean and welcoming but it simply doesn't function. The remote control had the room number taped to it, the back of the remote that covers the battery kept falling off and there was evidence that a piece of tape was used to hold the back in place. Inside the room there was no furniture to place your folded clothes. Only hangers. We woke up the next morning wanting to iron our blouses to hang them only to realize that there was no iron or ironing board in any of the rooms, as a matter of fact we were told that we would have to go downstairs and request an iron and board at the front desk. There were no phones, radios, clocks anything that resembled some form of functionality. So to get the iron we had to walk downstairs since no phones to call to request one. Next to the hotel was a private home and on the property were 2 dogs who would constantly bark. Directly across from the hotel is a construction site so you had to contend with that noise as well. The worst part of our short stay (3nights) is upon checking out at 4am, you are told that someone would check your room before releasing the hold on your card. A man at the front desk went through the dirty towels and came downstairs and said there was a stain on the towel. A stain on towels that were not white or 'hotel worthy' to begin with. He had a picture of what he calls a stain and said they would charge us $17US for the stain on the towel. We were flabbergasted. Aren't towels suppose to get dirty. We told the gentleman that that is something that will come out after the towels are washed. He still charged us $17US for the stain. We will never stay at this hotel again and I implore you please avoid this hotel. This is not a boutique hotel but a cheap motel lacking basic amenities and then rips guests off after searching your dirty linens. My job affords me the luxury of travel and in all the 20yrs of stays in numerous hotels, boutique and all out resorts this is definitely the first time we heard such nonsense. No furniture was damaged, items broken but instead they charged us for a dirty brownish color towel. Definitely poor taste. Also avoid the breakfast nothing to spend $10US on but definitely visit Aldo's at the corner for some ice cream. A VERY DISAPPOINTING STAY.

Having visited the Grand Bahia akumel eight years ago and had an excellent stay we decided to stay again however were a little disappointed this time. We were looking forward to seeing the infinity pool which was not there last time we visited and spending some relaxing time sitting around this adults only pool. It was not relaxing at all due to a noisy group of American holiday makers who thought it was acceptable to play their own appauling music so loud while drinking to excess. Other guest complained to staff but nothing was done about it. We were forced to use the beach or another pool area. The other pools were much more civilised. The rooms, although a little tired and not changed since last time there, could do with decorating, painting and replacing bathrooms , were clean and had everything we needed. Mini bar, coffee maker, tea, coffee replaced as needed, safe, bathrobes and slippers and towels and bed sheets changed regularly. We were in block 64 which was a good location just behind infinity pool and accsees to adult only beach. There's a lot of sea**** being washed up on beach on a daily basis but the staff work constantly from early morning trying to keep it at bay, they do a very good job. Las corales which is the steak restaurant on an evening is just next to infinity pool and overlooks the sea but they serve breakfast on a morning, think only for adults section, and we found it nicer than the large buffet, convenient location and friendly service. Alba , waitress in this restaurant was so helpful, friendly and hard working. We found the food really good and liked that we could book into an a la carte restaurant each night of our stay. Restaurants were booked on the Bahia app which was easy to manage. Favourite restaurant was Mikado which was located in Tulum part of the resort but did enjoy all of the restaurants. They have golf buggy type little carts that will take you around the hotels and they run frequently. We found the staff all very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. There was organised activities during the day and entertainment each night but we did not watch this so can not comment. Weather was very hot and humid with periods of rain a couple of days but we expected it due to season.

We stayed 4 days/3 nights. The staff was all extremely kind and welcoming from the beginning of our stay until the moment we checked out. Great location for us. The hotel is closer to the beginning of the hotel zone. Nights were quiet when we stayed and did not hear the music from the other clubs/hotels in the area. The garden view room we received was very clean and just what we needed. The mattress was extremely comfortable (to our standards) and the room was spacious for two. There is no fridge in the room but the front desk was always kind enough to provide ice when needed. The location is at the beginning of the hotel zone which was ideal for us as we felt it was a quiet and relaxing place to stay. And it was so easy to ride our bikes around the area and into the city. The staff was all working extremely hard to accommodate and ensure that people are enjoying their stay at the hotel. The breakfast was flavourful and consistent every morning. Their cantaloupe juice is a must if its an option. We had dinner once the first night and I really enjoyed their fish tacos. And we always tried to take advantage of their happy hours when we could. We were out exploring the area most of the time but always looked forward to coming back to the hotel to relax and enjoy the beach. That to me says a lot. I would highly recommend staying here. I might write their names incorrectly but thank you to Chris, Allan and Girard (so sorry if I did not get your name right) for all your assistance and advice during our stay.

Mixed reviews and feelings on this hotel... in general the apartments are clean, a good size, cleaners are friendly... we didn’t use the pool even though it looked nice it didn’t get any sun as it’s shadowed by two hotels, maybe a different time of year you can lay out in the sun, I’m not sure? This isn’t the hotel fault BUT literally 2 ft away directly next to Live Tulum is huge construction work going on, it’s the loudest concrete drilling I’ve ever heard and the floor was shaking, they’ve only just started the foundations so this work is right at the beginning stages of what looks like a new hotel being built next door. It wouldn’t have been too much of a problem if my GF wasn’t working remotely for 4 hrs every morning... it starts at 9am on the dot so if you’re up and out of the hotel for the day it’s probably nothing to worry about. We were miss sold on the free breakfast and not refunded that we booked through booking .com. The hotel said booking .com shouldn’t have advertised the free breakfast but that was one of the reason we chose this place over another hotel, we wasn’t reimbursed any money but was given a free bottle of Prosecco for the troubles which was nice... so just a heads up because of Covid there is No breakfast or free bike rentals at advertised. I think we were just unlucky and on another visit I’m sure the hotel would have been a way better experience, it’s wasn’t all bad. The location is at the better end of down town and you can walk to everywhere downtown... the Mayan Ruins near the beach took us 40 minutes to walk to and a taxi to the Hotel Zone will cost between $200pesos - $400peso each way depending how are down the zone you go. 7/10 is a fair rating.

FUYEZ !!!!!! GO AWAY !!!

Such a wonderful stay and overall experience. Perfect stay to be in downtown Tulum and a bang for your buck. Our hotel manager was very responsive and attentive of all of our needs. Unfortunately, our private pool got dirty from the rain, but she quickly cleaned it and was ready in a few hours. Even simple as needing more pillows. Our room was super clean and loved how their cleaning staff would come everyday to clean the floors and re-make the bed. Since the floors would get dirty from our shoes and such. Oh and they would set new towels for us as well. Truly grateful for the free parking. And there’s usually available parking. However… PLEASE KEEP IN MIND about the roads. They are really super bad and terrible to drive in with deep potholes but we managed. Just drive super slow and careful especially during the rain. I wouldn’t recommend to drive late at night since it may be a little too hard to see. Check in was super easy and quick. The front desk will check for your reservation and then will connect you to speak with their manager or whoever your rental manager is. Our manager gave us tips and offered to help schedule restaurant reservations or beach reservations in the popular Tulum area which is by the beach. The Location was only about 5-10 minutes from the main downtown Tulum area. I would say 10 minutes because we would drive very slow due to the roads. There is also a taco stand down the street which is only about a 5 minute walk. Lastly, the amenities… the pool was seriously breathtaking. Haven’t seen a circular shaped pool like that with such an astonishing view. We saw there was a small gym but we didn’t have the time to use it but at least it’s an option. We would highly recommend this beautiful stay and we would definitely come stay again. I would highly recommend to stay in downtown Tulum than the main Tulum road by the beach. Save money and just rent a car. Best way to visit all of the fun cenotes and different areas of Tulum.

Nestled in the jungle of Akumal is a glamping experience everyone should experience at least once. This was not only a beautiful, almost spiritual stay, but you’ll also feel good knowing that the money they make goes to the animal sanctuary which rehabs injured or orphaned animals back into the wild. They also are repopulating the endangered melipona bee. The beds are comfy, the food is nothing short of 5 star quality, the honey is the best I’ve tasted, the cenote is breathtaking. What more could you ask for?
