From the start it was clear that Dan, the new owner, had only just taken over and was fighting fires,. Despite this, it was apparent that this remains a popular and friendly iocal pub. The sheets in the room we had booked were wet (clean but not fully dried), and Dan instantly moved us to another, better room. The bed was firmer too, so this was a bonus. We had stayed twice before, so knew the room and it was much the same as previously. The shower still did hot and dribbly, or cold and faster, and there were some other relatively minor faults but basically the room was clean and liveable.Cotton sheets were a plus, as were plentiful towels, and a thoughtful Easter egg. Breakfast was not included, hence the lower price, the previous managers having provided a makeshift 'continental breakfast' in the room, which had pleased nobody. We tried breakfast on the first morning but decided to have our usual porage at Auntie's round the corner after that. We were awoken by a dawn chorus of two peacocks on all 3 mornings so the visit left me really tired. The wifi was not working but the incredibly hard working Dan assured us that a new installation was booked, and went to great lengths to divert the wifi from the bar into our room for the first night. At the price, our accommodation, having been modified, was ok, and I feel sure that by the next time we go, Dan will have got everything up to standard. I cannot comment on meals and drinks as we ate with family.
