We visited as a family of 4 in the October half term. First impressions as our transfer dropped us off were ok, but not blown away. Inside the reception area was spacious and clean, and check-in was efficient. Our room was perhaps a little dated, but spotlessly clean - this was our first visit to Italy though, so I have nothing to compare the style against. The view from the balcony was spectacular, and we were only on level 1, with Vesuvius straight ahead across the bay of Naples. There is a busy main road outside, but we found this gave atmosphere rather that annoying, and it couldn’t be heard inside with the door shut, but in any case as the evening went on, the noise subsided anyway as the traffic got less. The only slight disappointment here is that balconies with sea view don’t get the sun on them as it rises and sets behind you - not a massive issue for us, but might have been had I have been there for a week in Summer (which I wouldn’t want to do anyway). Beds and pillows were comfortable and there was ample storage space. Pool area is lovely, although the water was freezing cold, but I guess thats to be expected at the end of October. The toddler pool did look green though, and curiosity got the better of my 13 year old who wanted to see if it was any warmer, but when he got out of the water, the white bits of his shorts had turned yellow - my guess is that this is from too much chlorine in the water, although the lady on reception disagreed when I bought it to their attention (since rectified at home by soaking in white vinegar - who knew!!). The restaurant area lacked atmosphere, with stark bright lighting in the evening, and no background music, so all you hear is the echo of knives and forks and the clattering of plates. My understanding is that it is buffet style in the summer months, and A la Carte towards the end of season when we visited. Dinner is served 7-9pm, and this is where my main issues with the hotel are… they cater for weddings, christenings and parties (they have at least 2 other large function rooms aside from the dining room along with a covered gazebo style area by the pool) and there was a Christening on our first day), so they are clearly used to mass catering. Our evening meal had to be ordered in advance - the following nights menu is on your table for you to order the night before, so you are literally eating one meal but having to order what you want 24hrs later! Dinner was bought to our table quickly and efficiently, almost too efficiently, as we hadn’t even received our drinks on the two occasions we dined there. There is supposed to be a “rich vegetable buffet, served hot and cold”, but when we dined at 8pm, nothing was/had been refreshed, so all that remained were a few carrots and some cold beans. The cooked food that is brought to your table was pretty good, but not plentiful, so the lack of vegetables did still leave us a little hungry when we finished. Options for desert were cake or i
