Hotels in West Area, Xining

The hotel's location is excellent, right across from Wanda Plaza and above Tangdao 637. The front desk staff were also very friendly. Although this isn't a brand-new hotel from the last couple of years, the rooms are well-maintained and comfortable to sleep in. My only minor issues were that the hot water indicator on the showerhead wasn't very clear and was marked incorrectly, and there was some drainage problem in the shower that caused water to pool. The hairdryer was a bit old, specifically, the folding joint was too loose. For late-night snacks, they offered sour soup dumplings and tangyuan (sweet glutinous rice balls), plus some delicious yogurt! Free parking is available, and even though the parking garage is a bit complex, the signs are quite clear.

I will start off by saying that the room and bathroom were well appointed, the staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was delicious. However, whilst the room was generally clean, when I dropped something that subsequently rolled under a fitted unit, I was pretty disgusted to see the dust and filth beneath it. It clearly had not been cleaned for…well…ever? I appreciate that these areas will not be as clean as the more visible parts of the room, however for a five star hotel, this is unacceptable. I do not expect to find dirty tissues and a thick layer of dust and dirt anywhere in my hotel room. But by far the absolute worst part of my stay was the inability to control the temperature in the room whatsoever. The room was so swelteringly hot that despite the comfortable bed, and everything to go with it, I was almost unable to sleep at all. I do not expect this in a five star hotel(and have never experienced it other than here and at anther Wanda hotel in Hohhot), I pay for luxury; controlling the room temperature is a basic requirement that I can even do in a 50 yuan a night hostel dorm. When I asked the staff at reception the following morning I was told the AC wouldn’t be available until after April 15th because ‘it’s cold outside’. Firstly, I am not sleeping outside, I am sleeping inside, on the 22nd floor, where it is anything but cold. Not to mention it was April, not January, even in Xining it is not that cold. Secondly, as a paying guest, in a five star hotel, it should be up to me to decide if it is hot or cold, not the hotel. For this reason, as lovely as the room, staff and breakfast may have been, I would not stay here again. I checked out and moved to the lower rated Hilton, where I could control the room temperature and actually managed to sleep…generally what the whole point of a hotel is.

The bathroom with separate dry and wet, the hotel's supporting facilities are also very complete, there is a gym, laundry room, and parking lot. There is a business district nearby, it is very convenient to eat and play, and the front desk Xiao Zhang service is very thoughtful! Xiaolong of the Security Department is very responsible and took me to the basement to find a parking space. The service is very intimate! 😊

Pro points - The beds are soft and comfy, good showers with very hot water. Rooms were clean. The buses from outside connect well to the Muslim area of the city and the restaurants nearby are nice. Staff are friendly. Bad points - We booked a non smoking room, all the rooms available were infact non smoking and yet the whole place absolutely stank of cigarettes. We moved rooms because after dinner we came back to a haze of smoke in the room, everyone must be smoking. I live in China, I realise this isn't uncommon, but in that case don't advertise non smoking rooms.

We started our final China trip form Ürümqi followed by Turpin and Dunhuang. While our hotels there were reasonable, we felt really comfortable when we stayed at at a Club floor room at Sofitel Xining. Their service was one of the best we have experienced during our seven China trips so far. We enjoyed the comfort and the staff’s dedicated service. Thank you.

Check-in was very convenient and fast. The front desk service was very good. The room was upgraded for free. The drinks in the room were free. The breakfast was also great. I will stay here again in the future.

My friend recommended this hotel, and they were absolutely right! Not only is it very new, but the service is also excellent [strong]. It was a pleasant surprise! The rooms are spacious and all very new. The suites even have smart toilets, which is a great touch. I was a bit lazy and didn't want to go buy cigarettes, so I called the concierge, and a bellhop immediately brought them up to my room. The service couldn't have been better! The sleep-aid music in the room was fantastic; it was very comfortable to fall asleep to. The mall is also very close by, so having shopping, dining, and accommodation all in one place is really convenient, haha.

Taking my daughter on a business trip is inherently stressful. The demanding schedule and childcare are combined, and I'm always worried about neglecting one over the other. But staying at this hotel softened all my anxieties with gentle care. I was busy with work this morning and didn't pay my daughter any attention. She ran to the front desk, where the staff not only combed her hair but also pinned a child-friendly hairpin. When she returned, she smiled at the mirror for a long time. I was on a video conference at lunchtime and couldn't leave. The front desk lady offered to bring breakfast to my room, specifically asking about my daughter's dietary restrictions and offering an extra portion of fruit, saying, ”This is good for children.” In the afternoon, while I was out, the staff came to my room to help with homework, which was truly reassuring. I'd expected a tough battle, but instead, these strangers quietly warmed me. Their small acts, like family, helped me share my worries, making me feel less anxious and more at ease. This wasn't a hotel; it felt more like a temporary ”home.” The kindness in the little details speaks louder than any lavish decor.

This hotel is outstanding! Our room was spacious, clean, quiet, non-smoking, and very comfortable. Breakfast is excellent. The free washing and drying machines are very convenient. And the service is also excellent. We stayed in multiple hotels during our recent trip, and this was probably the best one of all of them. The location is around the corner from very good restaurants, and is within a 15 minute walk from the huge Wanda plaza mall where there are dozens of great options for food (and everything else!) I wish we had more time here, as it was truly a pleasure.

The Sofitel Residences, despite being ten years old, are still well-maintained. Having a washing machine, fridge, and induction hob makes it convenient to cook a little something. However, the hairdryer and toothbrushes could use an upgrade. The customer service staff are very well-trained. Xiao Quan at the front desk was incredibly thoughtful; hearing we wanted to stir-fry vegetables, she specifically helped us buy a wok! The hotel's location is excellent. The breakfast at the Western restaurant looks a bit dated, but the selection is quite rich. There are plenty of dining and entertainment options nearby. Recommended!
