AndyInBangkokA superb historic property under private management and ownership - actually, in the ownership of the same family for over 400 years altho’ now a member of the Small Luxury Hotels marketing system affiliated with Hilton. The property in its adjoining Gardens are a destination in themselves, along with the nearby (400m) Santa Clara monastery. They may be sufficient for some visitors, but it’s about a 15 minute walk to the centre of Coimbra and it’s main historical area.
Arthur Wellesley - aka Viscount Wellington - was a visitor during his Iberian campaign, so you’re in good company.
Staff are superb and obviously hand picked by the owner. The receptionist when I arrived (Evening of Sunday 16 February) was simply the best I’ve ever experienced, Singapore, Bangkok and Tokyo included. Genuinely fascinating to talk to about the history of the building and some of the previous guests (famous but ‘passed’ celebrities so no confidence is breached).
Best to stay in the rooms in the main building if possible, if tales of the previous occupant intrigue. Although the spa Is impressive – up to best Thai standards - and I guess the adjoining spa rooms may be equally good.
Overall, an absolute gem that far exceeded expectations.

We stayed two nights in apartment 2.2 - one bedroom with a small office room which has a desk and single bed. Location was great, being right off the main pedestrian ***** in the old town area, so very atmospheric and convenient for restaurants. Check-in is at Hotel Oslo, about 4min walk away so you will have to walk with your luggage for a few minutes, including up some stairs. The apartment building also does not have a lift, so you will need to be able to carry your luggage up stairs within the building. I don't think you would be able to call an Uber or taxi to the street in front of the building as it is very narrow so bear this in mind. Some other minor points I noticed about the apartment which you may find helpful:
- It directly faces another building on a narrow street, so the apartment doesn't really get natural sunlight
- There is a washer but no dryer - it took a whole day for our clothes to dry and the rack sat in the living room
- The apartment fittings are starting to feel a bit worn down

ArchDragonI stayed in a single room at ibis Coimbra Centro and had a pleasant experience overall. I was especially happy that the hotel fulfilled my request for a king bed. The room itself is compact but well laid out, just the right size for a solo traveler.
One issue I did notice was that the room stayed quite warm, even with the temperature dial set to 15°C and the air conditioning on high. It wasn’t uncomfortable, but it’s something to be aware of.
The toilet was spotless, and I really liked the wooden floors and the modern shower area.
I opted for breakfast during my stay and was pleasantly surprised by the variety available. There were enough options to enjoy something different each morning, and I always left the table full and satisfied.
Thank you ibis Coimbra Centro for hosting me!

Good location just next to Praça do
Comércio. Some complained about the claustrophobic nature of the room without windows but I think its fine as the only time I spent in was to sleep. The price is good and room is clean and with good location are all I asked for and the hotel fulfills all that. The people there is friendly and tried to help as they could, an added plus. Will stay there again if I come back to coimbra.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Coimbra Monumentais. The location is absolutely perfect being so close to the steps up to the University. The facilities were fine. My only suggestion for improvement is to automatically send the check in information rather than asking us to ask for it. I missed that point in the reservation. Most of our stays were with Air BnB and they automatically send the information a day or two in advance. We came to the back door (the 7A address) and had an issue with getting in. Once in, we were very well looked after. Thanks so much to Mariannna!

LuziaCI chose this hotel in Coimbra for its affordability, cleanliness, and convenient location, and I was very satisfied. It's particularly close to the intercity bus terminal. The building appeared to be an older one that had been renovated. Given the price, I would definitely book this hotel again if I were to return.

The staff was very kind and detailed to introduce the hotel facilities and let us check in early. The breakfast was hygienic and delicious. Breakfast was served until 10:30. Check out at 12 o'clock gave me ample time to organize my luggage. It was very intimate. The housekeeping staff took the clothes we left in the room to us in time. I'll choose this hotel if I have a chance.

Nice older hotel, working AC, new free indoor spa, good Sauna - breakfast standard but the room is too small (changing furniture would help a lot)
Rates are slightly too much for ”value” (okay around 90€)

We stayed at this hotel en route from Obidos to Douro Valley. It is a pleasant stay with on site parking just right in front of hotel lobby.
Do note that there are minimal dining options outside the hotel and it is very dark and quiet aroundhotel premises (mainly residential). It’s about 20mins drive into Coimbra.

This was our second stay at the hotel, and it was just as fabulous as the first. The wellness area — with its sauna, cold‑water dip, and warm indoor pool — made the stay incredibly relaxing. The breakfast buffet was as good as I remember it, and on this trip was also our first time dining at Raiz, the hotel’s restaurant for dinner, and the experience was wonderful. Great food, great atmosphere, and excellent service. This is definitely our go-to hotel when we're in Lousã!
