VValarie474A Princess Treatment Stay in Zhangye From the moment the hotel staff picked me up at the train station, I have received nothing but princess treatment. Whether this is standard or something special because I'm a solo female traveler in an area that doesn't see many foreigners outside of tour groups, I genuinely don't know. What I do know is that I felt looked after from start to finish. The arrival set the tone. A friendly staff member was waiting right at the train station exit, and the ride to the hotel was barely five minutes. I ended up on the top floor with a mostly unobstructed mountain view, and on a clear day you can apparently catch sunrise and sunset from up there. My room is enormous for one person. Two full bathrooms, a separate living room, separate bedroom with an additional couch. The little touches genuinely surprised me: a real sewing kit (not the sad three-thread version), a loofah, nice lotion, a plastic liner for the tub, cute slippers I may have to ”accidentally” pack, shower shoes, multiple teas, and a pod coffee maker. Speaking of the tub liner, it came paired with a sachet of ”red wine bath liquid” in this blood-red color, and combined with the plastic sheeting the whole setup gave me serious Dexter vibes. IYKYK. Slightly disturbing, completely awesome. Free laundry down the hall on my floor with washers, dryers, and soap provided. The breakfast spread is plentiful and genuinely good, tons of dishes, real variety. The one issue during my stay was the climate control. My room hit 28°C and I called down for help. They sent an army of staff. When they realized moving me wouldn't solve anything because the issue affected another room too, they rebooted the system instead of just shuffling me around. By the time I finished dinner and used my included dining credit, my room was cool and comfortable. That's not just good service, that's good problem-solving. They adapted, communicated, and fixed it properly. The staff deserves their own paragraph. Reception and the kitchen team were complete standouts. Everyone was gracious and warm, and the ones who spoke English did so beautifully even though they kept apologizing for it (they really shouldn't have, they were great). There was a moment at check-in when two excited staff members brought me up to my room and we all forgot the room key in the lobby. One of them ran back down to get it while we laughed about it together. That kind of warmth you can't fake. And it isn't just the front of house, there doesn't seem to be a moment when somebody isn't cleaning something, whether it's the windows, the chairs in the outdoor seating area, the bikes available for guests, or the koi pond. This hotel is genuinely well taken care of by its staff and ownership, and it shows. I didn't get to do everything I wanted to in Zhangye, which means I'll be back. And when I do come back, I'll be staying right here. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place.

AAoife ShanleyOf course! Here is an extremely positive hotel review crafted from your experience. --- Title: An Unforgettable Oasis of Hospitality - A Solo Traveler's Dream! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I cannot recommend this exquisite home stay highly enough! My five-day visit was nothing short of perfection, from the moment I arrived until my warm departure. As a female solo traveler from abroad, safety and welcome are my top priorities, and this family went above and beyond to make me feel like part of their home. My journey began with a incredibly gracious complimentary pick-up from Dunhuang airport, which immediately eased any travel fatigue. The hospitality only blossomed from there. The host family provided me with such genuine individual attention, offering personalized advice for visiting the breathtaking Crescent Moon Lake and the awe-inspiring Mogao Grottoes. Their tips were invaluable and helped me experience these wonders to the fullest. Now, the food! Each meal was a delight—authentic, home-cooked, and prepared fresh with so much care. It was truly delicious and gave me a real taste of local cuisine. My room was a haven of comfort and cleanliness, kept absolutely spotless throughout my stay. A wonderful daily touch was the replenishment of complimentary beverages: refreshing peach tea, pure water, and delicious coconut water—perfect after a day of exploring the desert. The most touching moment came upon my departure when the hosts presented me with exquisite souvenirs from the Mogao Grottoes. It was a gesture of such kindness and generosity that I will forever cherish. This home stay is a gem, perfectly suited for solo travelers seeking a safe and welcoming environment, couples looking for a unique retreat, or families wanting an authentic experience. I am already counting down the days until I can return next summer. A heartfelt thank you to the most wonderful hosts!

GGuest UserOut of our 9-day trip along the Qinghai-Gansu Loop, this homestay was our family's absolute favorite. It's a place with real heart and soul, where every detail is thoughtfully considered. Even our five-year-old said he'd give this hotel 30 stars! The homestay has a great design aesthetic, and the rooms are spotless, perfectly matching the tastes and ideas of younger travelers. We always bring our own disposable toiletries when we travel, but here, everything was already provided in the room. I also really loved the landlady – she's just one of those people you instantly like, and it was so comfortable interacting with her. From the moment we checked into the homestay in Dunhuang, we had such a positive impression of the city. Even though our stay was brief, it's full of beautiful memories. When we were leaving, she found out my child liked apricots and even gave him some from her own yard, which was incredibly touching. The breakfast offered a wide variety, and it was all very enjoyable. I truly recommend this homestay if you're coming to Dunhuang. I hope everyone gets to experience the genuine warmth and hospitality during their travels here. Their raisins are also highly recommended!

AAnonymous UserThere were a lot of people in the hotel lobby on the night of check-in. The front desk said that they had received a study tour group of 500 people, which delayed the check-in time. To express their apology, the front desk gave me some souvenirs and promised to take me to the night market in the evening. They were really sincere and I could see that the service awareness came from the heart and was not forced through training.

MMia·sI'd always wanted to experience an overnight desert stay in Dunhuang, and after comparing the crowded campsites within Mingsha Mountain, I ultimately chose Shazhou Wilderness Luxury Camp. The overall experience far exceeded my expectations. The camp is located in a private desert hinterland, so there's no need to jostle with other tourists. The entire stretch of dunes and dried wood photo spots were ours to enjoy. We had unobstructed views of the sunrise in the morning and sunset in the evening, creating an incredibly atmospheric experience. We booked a tent room, which was incredibly picturesque. The interior space was sufficient, with a dry/wet separated bathroom, 24-hour hot water, air conditioning, and a refrigerator – all fully equipped. The bedding was clean and free of sand, and the toiletries were comprehensive. It's truly rare to find such living conditions in the desert. The camp offers its own activities, so there's no need to flock to scenic areas: The UTV desert off-roading was incredibly thrilling and exhilarating. The large, gentle slopes in front of the camp are perfect for free sandboarding, and sand-digging tools are provided free of charge, keeping children entertained for an entire afternoon and giving parents a break. I must especially commend the butler service. We had one-on-one assistance throughout our stay. Before check-in, they sent us directions and important information, and they were always available if we had any questions. I accidentally lost my iWatch en route, and at 3 AM, the butler drove me back into the desert to retrace our steps and search for it. They went through a lot of trouble, and I felt incredibly bad for them. They were also very responsive to everyday requests, quickly bringing water, extra blankets, and props. With children in tow, the entire stay was worry-free.

GGuest UserAfter comparing several accommodations for my trip to Zhangye Danxia, I chose Kaoshan Daying (Back Mountain Camp). The Starry Sky Yurt was what truly captivated me, and my entire stay exceeded expectations – highly recommended! Location-wise, the camp is right next to the West Gate of the Danxia scenic area, making travel incredibly convenient. No need for roundabout detours; I could step out early in the morning to catch the Danxia sunrise. This fantastic location also saved me a lot of effort when it came to stargazing at night. Now, let's talk about the Starry Sky Yurt. Before I arrived, I was a bit worried about roughing it in a tent out in the wilderness, but my stay completely changed my mind. The yurt was spotlessly clean and tidy, well-ventilated with no strange odors. The bed was soft and comfortable, and despite the large temperature swings in the Gobi Desert between day and night, the interior was well-insulated and never felt cold or damp. The en-suite bathroom was excellent, with 24-hour hot water and a full range of toiletries. It truly offered a luxurious wilderness experience that blended comfort with ambiance, without compromising on daily conveniences. However, the panoramic skylight at the top of the yurt was the real highlight and the biggest surprise of my trip. The camp is far from the city, meaning almost no light pollution. As night fell, the entire sky was unblocked and spread out above me. I didn't even have to step outside into the wind; I could lie in bed and gaze up at the countless stars. The Milky Way stretched clearly across the mountains, with stars so bright and dense – a magnificent night sky rarely seen in the city. Lying there quietly, watching the celestial river flow and listening to the distant Gobi breeze, all my travel fatigue slowly melted away. It was incredibly romantic and healing. The camp's amenities were also very thoughtful. In the evening, you can enjoy a starlit BBQ and hotpot. After dinner, there's a bonfire party. Then, after a stroll, you return to your yurt to continue enjoying the tranquil starry sky. The self-driving parking area is spacious, and RV resupply facilities are comprehensive. The staff were warm and meticulous in their service; they thoughtfully informed me of the best stargazing times and were always on hand to help with any issues. The unique Danxia mountain light show at night, coupled with the vast starry sky, created a multi-layered and stunning view. The special clear-broth suoyang hotpot was authentic and generously portioned, perfect for a hot meal after a day of exploring. Whether you're traveling as a couple or with friends, the Starry Sky Yurt is an exceptionally suitable choice. You can admire the Danxia landforms up close and immerse yourself in lying under the Milky Way – it perfectly combines natural beauty with comfortable accommodation. This is an unmissable gem when visiting Danxia, and I will definitely choose the Starry Sky Yurt again on my next trip to Zhangye.

DDaofeng006During the May Day holiday, we traveled to Dunhuang. The hotel was very unique, located in the desert, with a typical Northwest and Xinjiang folk house style, yet it exuded a sense of elegance. The room facilities were complete, and the service was thoughtful. There were a few things that pleasantly surprised me: first, they proactively provided and covered the bathtub with a liner; second, they offered a complimentary laundry service once; and although breakfast officially ended at 10:30 AM, they were considerate of late sleepers and still provided a rich breakfast spread even after the cut-off time. While the breakfast options were limited, they were exquisite and distinctive, leaving us very satisfied. The hotel's travel photography service is highly recommended; the results were excellent – it would be a shame to miss it! Overall, Dunhuang is a very worthwhile travel destination. We spent four nights and three full days, which was quite leisurely. On the first day, we visited Yumenguan Pass and Yadan National Geological Park. We set off around noon and these two spots were conveniently located in the same direction. At Yumenguan Pass, we only explored the Small Square City and didn't go further. Then we headed to Yadan. I recommend chartering a car for the tour, as it offers much more freedom. Otherwise, taking a taxi means a two-hour journey each way. A private car allows you to see some hidden gems and control your time, as most of the scenery is somewhat similar, and too much can lead to aesthetic fatigue. On the second day, we went to the Mogao Grottoes. Remember to book tickets in advance; ours was for 3 PM. First, you watch a film at the digital center, then take their provided transport to the grottoes. Each group is assigned a guide who explains everything during the tour. This model is excellent as it protects the cultural relics while allowing you to appreciate their essence. I recommend it to those visiting Xi'an's Terracotta Army, so you don't just see a sea of tourists' heads. On the last day, after 4 PM, we went to Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring. The sun wasn't as intense then, and you can buy tickets at the entrance anytime. The scenery was magnificent, and Crescent Spring was beautiful; I was surprised at how well it's preserved. We skipped the evening's large chorus as we weren't young enough for that. In general, Dunhuang is indeed a great place to visit, and it's well worth coming here. Don't worry about the service; the local government is very dedicated. Lastly, Dunhuang Night Market, also known as Shazhou Night Market, is worth a try for its flavors and atmosphere.

EElena KldI had a very pleasant stay in this friendly family-run hotel. Decorated in the colourful local ******* style, the place has all necessary amenities including a restaurant and a bar, to make it a comfortable all-in-one stay. Located on the doorstep of the key attraction - Labrang monastery - and right in the heart of the old town, by the little picturesque creek, it is an ideal base for exploring the surroundings. The staff are super helpful and would be eager to make all necessary arrangements for you such as local drivers, etc. The hotel owner is a local ******* man, and if you are lucky and he is around (they have another property in the nearby Sangke Grassland) ,he would be generous with his time passionately sharing his extensive knowledge of the region and China in general. Feel free to ask for some suggestions and routes, as the owner and his Dutch wife also used to run a travel agency). And a small tip (based on my experience): give it an extra day or two for your body to adapt to the high altitude, to fully enjoy this special place!

GGuest UserI had a truly unique and enjoyable stay at this campsite. Not only was the accommodation comfortable, but there was also so much to do. During the day, you step right out into vast grasslands with beautiful scenery everywhere you look – perfect for stunning photos. In the evenings, the campsite comes alive with lively bonfire parties, creating a fantastic atmosphere. At night, you can gaze up at a sky full of stars; the view is incredibly open. Overall, it was peaceful and therapeutic, allowing me to relax and have a great time. It's the ideal spot for a relaxing grassland getaway.
