A very pleasant stay at the Pipa Old Inn. A very historical building, though the place is equipped with all necessary modern amenities save for an elevator. Fortunately the staff very helpful assisted us with lugging up our heavy luggage to our room on the 3rd floor. Very beautifully decorated and strategically located in the heart of Datong Ancient City. Very pleasant and helpful staff who helped us plan and arrange our trips around Datong though sadly, they weren't very proficient in English (but that's common in China). Free breakfast was included in our stay and there was a decent spread though the menu didn't change much over our stay there save for one or two vegetable dishes being rotated. Overall definitely worth a return trip and stay in Datong Ancient City.

The selection of B&Bs in Pingyao Ancient City is truly overwhelming. After repeated rounds of searching, I finally settled on Xingshengjiu. The experience exceeded my expectations, and I truly made the right choice. 📍Location: Convenient, tranquil amidst the bustle. Located in a quiet alley in the heart of the ancient city, it's a 10-minute walk from the bustling South Street. 💁♂️Service: Attentive, caring, and proactive 24-hour butler service. 1) Arrival: Immediately contacted via WeChat upon booking. Upon arrival, a sightseeing shuttle was picked up from the Guanbei parking lot outside the city, and the staff warmly greeted me. 2) Tours: Proactive suggestions and maps were provided during outings. Even sightseeing shuttles were arranged for trips outside the city. 3) Every time I encountered the hotel staff, they were enthusiastic and helpful. 4) Check-out: A shuttle was booked to the parking lot, and a small set of aged vinegar was given as a souvenir. 🛏️Rooms: Brand-new facilities, modern comfort 1) A two-story, two-courtyard, two-story courtyard house, designed in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The tatami we booked was spacious and bright. The room was modern in design and amenities, including a tea table with Xiaodu automatic control. 2) The 4-meter king-size bed was high-quality and very comfortable. 3) The bathroom had separate wet and dry areas, a powerful shower 🚿, and thick, soft towels. The pink Lefen hairdryer was both stylish and powerful. 🍵Breakfast: Jin-style snacks and aged vinegar tasting Whether it's the small buffet on the first day or the nine-square set menu on the second day, you can savor local specialties. The bar also offers four flavors of aged vinegar: healthy Polygonatum odoratum vinegar and Ganoderma lucidum vinegar, as well as beauty-enhancing red date vinegar and mulberry vinegar. 💁♀️Value-added Services and Amenities 1) The Starbucks location is a unique feature, with guests receiving a complimentary Starbucks coffee and afternoon tea. 2) A laundry room is also available. Stayed for two nights and the overall experience was very good, five-star praise.

Access to the rooms through the courtyards. We found it to be very beautiful

The owner and their family were incredibly kind, thoughtful, and attentive. After we took a taxi from the high-speed train station to the city gate, they drove a small electric cart to pick up our luggage (as passengers aren't allowed to ride inside the ancient city). Throughout our stay, they patiently answered any questions we had, many of which weren't even about the accommodation. When it was time to leave, concerned we might miss our train, they not only helped us with our luggage but also hailed a taxi, loaded our bags, and waited for us to get in. As we were traveling with two young children, the owner kept reminding us not to rush, saying that if we could catch the train, great, but if not, it was fine – safety was the priority! After we'd left, the owner even called us, timing it just right, to check on how we were doing. Although our stay in Pingyao was less than 24 hours, we were profoundly touched by their immense warmth. We'll definitely be back next time to truly soak in the experience!

Absolutely loved our two-day stay at Wantoo B&B! The Tatami Twin Rooms boast two large beds and fantastic natural light, while the Starry Sky Family Room even has a bathtub, perfect for a relaxing soak after a day of sightseeing. The B&B's location is also excellent. It's situated within the ancient city yet offers convenient transportation; taxis and ride-sharing services can drop you off right at the entrance. They also provide free bicycles, which are incredibly handy for getting around. It was super convenient to cycle to attractions like Huayan Temple, Drum Tower, Shanhua Temple, and Southeast Yi. The front desk service was absolutely fantastic! For early risers, they thoughtfully prepare packed breakfasts, and fresh-cut fruit is also available. The B&B itself is very quiet and peaceful. Downstairs, there's a beautiful coffee shop, making it ideal for those who enjoy peace and quiet or love to read.

The B&B is located near Taiping Tower. The parking lot is at the entrance of the alley. It is very convenient. The Japanese style is very surprising. The small courtyard also has a landscape of dry landscape. It is very stylish. The facilities are quite exquisite. The big bed room is very comfortable and there is incense on the bedside. Camphor wood, fragrant, helps sleep. You can see the owner's intentions from details such as smart toilets and toiletries. The landlady is very nice, the service is very attentive, the breakfast is also amazing, and it is delivered directly to the room, which is very convenient. Mineral water drinks are waiting in the freezer in the corridor for self-pickup. It is very user-friendly and I am very satisfied. I will come again if I have the opportunity.

The front desk was incredibly quick to check in, and they provided detailed information about nearby attractions and hotel amenities, which was truly heartwarming. The room was a true delight! The overall decor was minimalist and elegant, impeccably clean, and the bedding was soft and comfortable, ensuring a wonderful night's sleep. The bathroom had separate wet and dry areas, and the toiletries were all high-quality, including makeup remover pads and face cloths. The attention to detail was exceptional. Highly recommended.

Veteran Cadre Style (Taiyuan) It’s my first time staying at Kempinski. It has a strong old-fashioned atmosphere, which young people may find a bit old-fashioned. But the service and hardware facilities are very good, and the cost-effectiveness of staying in the off-season is very high [heart] Location: Close to Changfeng Street subway station, about 100 to 200 meters away, and also close to Binhe Expressway, very convenient for driving and public transportation. Decoration style: It's quite standard. In the eyes of those who like it, it is steady and elegant, and it is the result of years of accumulation. Those who don't like it think it is old-fashioned and has no novelty [laughing and crying]. But the furniture is of high quality, with a bit of old money style. Hardware facilities: Impeccable, with a gym and swimming pool, all of which are large in size. The room is big enough. I stayed in a deluxe view room. I like the layout very much. There are huge floor-to-ceiling windows, three separate washing areas, and a bathtub next to the window, so you can have a clear view of the night view. The interior is also unambiguous, with electric curtains, smart switches, top-tier brand sanitary ware, wall-mounted toilets and the quality of the toiletries are also online. The most important thing is that the bedding is very comfortable, the mattress and pillow are moderately soft and hard, and I slept soundly [laughing and crying] Service: This is even better. I have mixed feeling about this inn. The reason I booked this place is because of high rating and its location in the old town. The service is really good. The reception lady come meet us and guided us to the Inn. There are shuttle bus take you from certain appointed gate to their inn, however we waited more than 30mins for this service where I have expressed my complaint. The front desk lady has redeemed herself by offered me a room upgrade, which is very nice. One thing I would like to point out is, there are lots of steps up down the courtyard due to the historical nature of the building style, it’s not easy to lift large suitcases. Then there is photography service which last till 10:30 to 11, would suggest you book a quite inner court room. Apart from these, I am happy with the service and it’s a beautiful inn.

We chose Taotang B&B for our trip to Pingyao. It's the most personal B&B we've ever stayed in! It felt like home! I was initially drawn to Taotang by its pictures, but the experience completely changed my perception of accommodation—it's more than just a B&B; it's truly a home away from home! Tucked away in the heart of Pingyao Ancient Town, it offers a tranquil escape from the bustle. Navigating to it is easy, and the moment you step inside feels like discovering a treasure trove! The surrounding area is incredibly convenient, with restaurants aplenty, so all you have to worry about is what to eat each day—there are so many delicious options. The B&B is decorated in a neo-Chinese style—simple yet sophisticated, with every detail telling a story. The room was much larger than I expected! The bed was incredibly soft, and the mattress and pillows were incredibly comfortable. I slept soundly without any back pain, and slept soundly through the night. In the morning, opening the curtains and letting the sunlight stream in was an instant relief! The bathroom has separate wet and dry areas, and the toiletries are from LE LABO, a niche brand under Yadai. They smell amazing and are packed with details! I have to give a special shoutout to our host, Zhang Liangwei, who helped me contact the guides for the ancient city, and the front desk lady, who was incredibly attentive. The high-speed rail station pick-up and drop-off, daily mung bean soup, snacks, and fruit...everything about our B&B truly reflects their thoughtfulness. This B&B made my trip to Pingyao so much more heartwarming. Not only was my stay comfortable, but I also experienced a ton of personal warmth! I've already recommended it to all my friends and anyone who wants to ”live like a local” ~ The photos are terrible, so you can refer to the B&B's own photos, which are absolutely authentic. ✨ Tips: - If the B&B has special activities (like a market tour or local snack cooking lessons), be sure to include them. - Mentioning ”details” makes it more authentic (e.g., ”There's a non-slip mat in the bathroom” or ”There's a nightlight by the bed”). - Using comparisons makes it stand out (e.g., ”It's much better than other similarly priced hotels I've stayed in before”).
