The location of the inn is very good. It is in the ancient city. It is very close to the main street and scenic spots. It is convenient for eating and playing. I really like the small yard in front of the room, where I can drink tea and chat with my colleagues. The front desk and waiters are friendly, the cleaning is timely, and the facilities are complete. They also gave small gifts to each room when leaving, which is considerate and recommended.

We spent two wonderful nights at Yungang Hotel in Datong. First of all, our deepest gratitude to Yang wen yuan - 杨文元. When booking from Europe, we did not realise correctly the time required to get to the caves and to the hanging monastery (a must view when in Datong). We thought that by using public transport we could manage to do both in a short period of time. So wrong! We arrived and Yang wen yuan - 杨文元 reassured us and in less than 30 minutes he was able to help and book for us a private car for the next day. He made our stay unforgettable. Thanks a lot from both of us if you are reading ! Plus, this hotel is wonderful : super new, technological and the staff is super kind (from the ones in the lobby to the ones in the restaurant/cafeteria). Breakfast is amazing. You can have everything, freshly made for you.

Staff: definitely the top reason to stay here, they made our stay unforgettable and went the extra mile to help us out organize our excursions, thanks for everything! To get the hotel from Datong South Railway Station by bus no.31 from the bus station side(the area is connected), take around 30 minutes to get there (Yungang Jianguo hotel, the hotel is opposite, only 2 CNY, many food and minimart around there. There is Muslim food there if need(next to the entrance of C(behind the building). Nice service, self check-in, clean room and relaxing. the owner, you should to contact the owner before arrive, she so friendly and always help you, she suggested us about the famous local food and restaurants(Thank you so much). If you need to buy some necessary item and cannot buy at the around minimart, you can walk to the Yonghui Superstore by East side (the next junction) turn right to Yuhe West rd. (At the corner). From the hotel tobget Yungang Grottoes, you can take bus no. 31 (Yungang Jianguo side), get off at Shi Li Dian Cun Xi ( West Shilidian village), cross to another side and catch bus no.12 to the terminal stop(is Yungang Grottoes. Take 1 hour or 1.30 to get there.

There were free tea, mineral water, and snacks at the front desk. There were Chinese and Western food for breakfast, and the dishes were quite rich. I had the knife-cut noodles here for breakfast for two consecutive days. I personally feel that it is better than the oriental knife-cut noodles I ate outside. It is not far from the ancient city, and a taxi is basically 10 yuan. You can also make an appointment for free pick-up and drop-off service at the front desk. The front desk brother who received me on the day of check-in was also very nice and actively helped to solve some minor problems. Overall, the accommodation experience was very good!

The whole courtyard is a Qing Dynasty building with a sense of age. Another wonderful stay with the lovely Pipa Inn. If you travel to the gorgeous old town of Datong, this is where you must stay!!! The staff are so friendly, the rooms and hotel are beautiful, great location in the middle of the old town and the inn can arrange a driver to get you to all the historical sights. Highly recommend.

The hotel room is clean and spacious. Wide variety of breakfast selection and the food quality is good. Provide free fruits, snacks and drink at the lobby hall. Most of the staff are helpful, except for an unpleasant encounter with one of the front desk male staff on the mid autumn night shift. He is the only one on night shift duty on the night of 17 Sep. He seems quite impatient and unfriendly to attend to us. The counter sells beer, we were asking him if is ok to buy the beer and have it at the lobby dining area. He didn't give a direct answer of 'No', we were confused and kept asking. But he raised his voice, which is unprofessional of a customer service staff. We were not expecting such service and attitude from a well-known hotel. Other than that, it was a pleasant experience at the hotel and generally we are satisfied with the experience.

When we arrived we were given the wrong room in B tower with single beds, we had to go back downstairs and show the booking again to request the correct double room in A tower. The rooms and amenities are old, and the fridge is broken. I called reception who told me to bring any items I want to cool down to the reception and use their fridge, when I asked if we can swap the broken fridge for a working fridge, they said all of the fridges are like this. They won't admit the fridges are all broken, but all of the fridges in the hotel are warm and won't make your food / beverages cold. The hotel is in dire need of an upgrade, and they need to replace the fridges.

This is the best and value for money hotel I stayed in last 12 days trip from Beijing, Datong, Taiyuan, Pingyao, Xian. The room is nice, breakfast is good, hotel room even provide you with a washing machine in tge room with detergent free. Highly recommended and great for longer stay. Cheers

The hotel is really nice and in the authentic style of Pingyao. It is quite closed from the east gate and from the ancient city center. The owner is really friendly, speaks good English and is doing everything to make you enjoy your stay. He did explained very well all the activity and provide help if needed. The room is clean and we didn't care about the size as we were out all day. If I have to suggest one thing, it will be to have bigger mattresses as they are quite hard but it's a personal preference.
