Located inside the Datong old city, the inn itself is a historic building and has a history of its own. There are many interesting decors to look at in the property. The location is excellent and nearby some very good restaurants. It has a laundry room with 2 washers and 1 dryer which are very important in my opinion. The room was very nice, the cleanliness was very good and kept in very good condition. Although there was no rotating menu for the buffet breakfast each morning, the food is good and there's also beef/lamb offal rice noodles on request.
The best parts about the hotel are the staff and service. They were extremely welcoming and friendly. I usually get disappointed by restaurant recommendations by hotel staff but all the restaurants recommended were excellent and not overly expensive. They could help you make a reservation (those restaurants get super busy on weekends and holidays) as well if you don't speak Chinese. We had to check out really early on the last day and the staff promptly packed us some eggs and bread for breakfast even though we didn't request it the night prior. I'm sure if you request it the day/night before, they'll be able to pack you something more substantial.
I don't normally leave reviews but this property was worth my time.

Highly recommended! The service at this Datong hotel is top-notch, so heartwarming it almost brought tears to my eyes 😭
My experience at Jixia Mountain Datong Hotel:
My wife said, ”From check-in to check-out, I felt like a pampered princess the whole time!”
👏🏻 A big shout-out to the General Manager!
His bilingual skills are impressive, effortlessly switching between English and Cantonese.
He immediately stepped in to patiently assist a few foreign guests who needed help.
This kind of 'attention to detail' service really resonated with me!
🌄 When we were watching the sunrise over the city wall in the morning,
the front desk小姐姐 (young lady) quietly filled our thermos with ginger tea.
She said, ”The morning wind is strong, have something warm.”
This was the first time I encountered turndown service where they actually pulled the duvet up from the bottom. Even at the St. Regis Macau, I always had to struggle to pull the duvet up myself.
These unexpected moments of warmth made the entire trip feel incredibly special!
💡 Little tips:
The hotel offers a guided tour service for the art gallery daily.
The floor-to-ceiling windows in the lobby offer stunning views of the sunset.
It's advisable to bring a jacket as there's a significant temperature difference between morning and evening.
I've already decided to bring my family back for a second visit! Such a service-oriented team deserves recognition 👀

First off, the guesthouse's location is excellent. It's on the quieter northern side of the old town, very peaceful, not far from the parking lot, and close enough to the main road for easy taxi access. The room has a simple, clean aesthetic, and what you see is truly what you get. Although Datong in Chinese New Year was quite cold, the room temperature was perfect – short sleeves were fine.
During this trip to Datong, we experienced both a sandstorm and a cold front, but what left the deepest impression on me was the guesthouse's front desk staff. Our group of over ten people stayed for four days, and both ladies working shifts at the front desk were incredibly kind, polite, gentle, and patient. Since most of our group is Hui Muslim, they were constantly concerned about our dining needs and recommended restaurants for us.
While breakfast was a bit of a walk from the guesthouse, the food was delicious. Every day I looked forward to the breakfast's knife-cut noodles, and the vegetarian toppings were also tasty. The lady at the restaurant was very warm and genuine, and her local accent made her sound especially friendly.
My companions all agreed that choosing this guesthouse was a great success, and we'll definitely stay here again if we have the chance to visit Datong!

The room was decent. As for breakfast, I'm honestly speechless – it was the absolute worst five-star hotel breakfast I've ever had. There was practically nothing. I couldn't find a toaster for my bread, and after searching for ages, it was tucked away behind the counter. Were they afraid I'd steal it? They claimed to have honeycomb, but after another long search, I couldn't find it. When I asked a server, they pointed to a few wires with a wooden frame hanging on them and told me that was the honeycomb. I just laughed. The only edible items were the freshly made knife-cut noodles and wontons.

We had a very pleasant stay in this hotel. The staff members were very helpful and attentive. Breakfast was also very good! Our room was comfy and spacious, the only problem we had with it was that it felt too hot for us even with the aircon/heating off and right before we left we could feel some bad smell coming from the pipes. We didn't report this as we were leaving but we're sure the hotel would have helped and sorted this for us (they offered changing our room when we said it was too hot for us, for example). The location of the hotel was very useful to explore the ancient city and the hotel helped us book a private car to see the grottoes and hanging temple - great experience!
We'd consider staying here again if/when we visit Dating again. :)
The view is absolutely 100 points. Facing the Yellow River and nestled against the mountain, at night, spotlights showcase Yuncheng's beautiful scenery! Now, let's have a few complaints. First, the service. They were incredibly accommodating, which is commendable. There was an evening event on the lawn in front of my room, but no one on Ctrip or at the hotel informed us. Since the event wasn't until after 11 PM, I contacted the housekeeper and was eventually offered a room change. Although we had two options—one with a broken bathtub and one with broken glass—we chose the one with the broken glass for quieter rooms. The guy who greeted us was very patient, even though we had already checked into the first room and used the bathtub. He was also very friendly! For the next two days, every staff member was indifferent and stern. While every request was met, the service was truly ”unexpected” for a Ctrip-sponsored resort. Second, the food. On the first day, I ordered Yellow River carp and found a hair. The staff didn't even apologize, but simply refunded it. I ordered other dishes. If I hadn't been embarrassed by the room change, I would have walked out. I think the poor service is still a problem of training. The requirements for waiters are too low, which really damages Ctrip's brand!

This was the best hotel of my entire trip. It was spotless, andvery well laid out around small courtyards. If I were traveling with a large family , I would request rooms on the first floor that open out into the same courtyard . There were multiple common spaces that were comfortable and interesting. The laundry room was properly equipped and the staff showed me how to use the appliances. Breakfast was delicious, with a variety of hot dishes, noodles made to order, a coffee machine with excellent coffee, and fresh fruit.
The hotel was well located. It fronts onto a quiet tidy alley, one block from the chaotic (and fun) pedestrian food street and shopping street. It was an easy walk to the Shanxi Province group of museums.
I do have a few suggestions.
1. My taxi from the train station could not find the hotel. He left me nearby but I wandered around dragging my suitcase for a good half hour until the six people who joined in to help, were successful! It would help to improve the location identifiers in Amap, and any other map a guest or taxi driver might need.
2. When I asked the front desk for help arranging a taxi to the train station the afternoon before my departure, I was given to understand that I should just go out and hail a taxi the following morning. At 7:00am, there were no taxis anywhere nearby. I ended up walking a kilometer with my bags to take the subway. So…even though the service is great, don’t count on hotel help with transfers. Leave yourself plenty of time and have a “plan B” when you depart. The location is not easy for a taxi to find - cars cannot enter that alley!

Excellent!
First, let's talk about the location. It's centrally located in Datong, very close to attractions like Huayan Temple, Shanhua Temple, and the Nine-Dragon Wall, all within walking distance. Dining is also very convenient, with several restaurants recommended on Xiaohongshu nearby.
Next, the service. As expected of an established hotel, the service is incredibly professional and enthusiastic. The doorman will help you carry your luggage to your room. I even saw them squatting down to meticulously wipe the entrance clean – truly dedicated, especially in this cold weather!
Finally, I must mention the hotel's dining. The dishes come in small portions, and the service is very fast. All the recommended dishes are delicious, and the ambiance is first-class. My only regret is having such a small appetite! The breakfast buffet is also exquisite!
And the complimentary bathhouse tickets were a great bonus. There are two pools with comfortable water temperatures and very clean water. The scrub masseur was also very professional.
I stayed at the Garden Hotel for all 4 days of my trip to Datong, experiencing both buildings A and B, and both were great. Although building B doesn't include meals, it felt a bit newer than building A. This is the first time I've written such a detailed review, but it's genuinely excellent, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Datong!

I came to see the concert and I liked the fact that the Intercontinental Hotel could pick me up. The service and environment were very good. There were some minor incidents in the middle, but they were solved quickly. The only question was that I vomited for two consecutive days after breakfast. I want to ask if the soft-boiled fried eggs in the hotel breakfast were sterile eggs?

We stayed one night at this hotel and had a really lovely experience. The service was wonderful, everyone was super helpful and friendly. They picked us up and dropped us at the station which was such a nice touch and made everything very easy.
We had a very nice Chinese breakfast, they went through what was included. they gave us really good recommendations for things to see and where to eat in the ancient city. The hotel itself is very beautiful and quiet, which made the stay even more enjoyable.
Pingyao Ancient City is such a charming place, full of history, and it’s definitely worth staying overnight to see it all lit up in the evening.
We would definitely recommend this hotel and just want to say thank you to everyone for making our stay so lovely 😊

MMethilanI spent nearly a week at Datong Milan/Magnolia Hotel (Dai Residence branch) and it was a very pleasant and enjoyable stay
Location:
- Nestled a quieter part of the ancient city, that provided a peaceful retreat after each day of exploring.
- 10 minutes to some of the attractions of the old town
- 15-20 minute walk to the popular restaurants and more attractions
- 30 minute walk to Huayan Temple and its nearby street markets.
I'm always happy to walk but if needed, I could always use DiDi to take me around.
Falling asleep without street noise is something I like. There is a bit of building work going nearby, which is happening all over Datong Ancient City, but nothing too major.
Nearby is the Ancient City's wall, but walk past that and you can see the locals dance in the morning in the park or walk along the canal/moat in the evening.
Room:
The room was surprisingly spacious, offering plenty of room to spread out and relax, a welcome change from cramped city accommodations. The staircase is a bit narrow, so those with lots of big luggage might struggle (no lift)
Importantly, it was very clean and well equipped. I especially liked the Chinese tea ceremony set!
Service:
- Despite a noticeable language barrier, everyone went above and beyond with smiles, helpful gestures, and clear efforts to communicate.
- Especially the manager, who told me about local food to try, things to do and asked if I needed anything. She noticed that I was bringing back leftovers from the restaurant, and bottled drinks from the shops, and said I could use the fridge.
- I can't speak Chinese so when the delivery driver came to drop off my order, the staff will take it from the reception and bring it to me.
- Unfortunately, breakfast isn't available here
- Drinking water topped up. Humidifier and mosquito repellent were provided when needed.
I will not hesitate to book here again on my next visit and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking comfort and genuine warmth in Datong!

KKatrin SauthoffMy husband and I are a couple from Germany. We booked two nights there, and our decision was absolutely the right one. From the initial contact (via the WeChat app, which is essential for your entire trip to China) to our departure, everything was perfect. We were picked up from the train station by car and taken to the hotel free of charge. This is especially good for Western tourists who don't speak Chinese. The first problem would have been explaining to the taxi where we wanted to go. The lobby and rooms are very beautiful, stylish, and equipped with the highest technology. Most of the guest rooms face the inner courtyard, so you can sleep very quietly and comfortably. The beds are very large and comfortable. The hotel's location is excellent. It's located on the northern edge of the Ancient City of Datong, just a few minutes' walk from the tourist attractions and the colorful and lively old town. So you can enjoy it without being disturbed by noise. I would especially like to emphasize the friendliness of the staff. Unfortunately, we don't speak Chinese, and the staff didn't speak English, but with the help of modern communication tools (language apps), we understood each other perfectly. Every request was fulfilled. There's even the option to use a washing machine in the basement of the hotel. This is especially fantastic for tourists on longer trips to China, as it allows for easy laundry. If you ever come back to China, we will definitely book this hotel again.

GGuest UserThe hotel reception staff, both the young men and women, were incredibly nice. From the moment I booked and added them on WeChat, they patiently guided me to the parking lot and explained the shuttle service. The attentive service upon arrival was truly impeccable. I stayed for three days, and no matter when I saw them, they always greeted me warmly. They were prompt and patient in resolving any issues. The overall environment is beautiful and boasts an antique charm. P.S. Perhaps because it's so beautiful, there were travel photographers non-stop from morning till night, which slightly affected my rest.

SShanyuzheGreat beauty and harmony! The location of the hotel is very good, between Datong Ancient City and Yungang Grottoes. The environment is good. I will stay here again next time! When you come to Datong, it is recommended to go to the Long Juxiang Hotel near the Fourth Archway. Go early and line up, the food is very good; the Nine Dragon Wall, Huayan Temple and the ancient city wall in the ancient city are all very good!

AAnonymous UserThe room was very quiet, and the location was excellent, making it incredibly convenient to get around. However, there were a few drawbacks. Only two bottles of mineral water were provided per day, so if you're a tea drinker, you might want to bring extra water with you. When I made the reservation, it stated that a bottle of vinegar would be offered as a complimentary gift. However, upon checkout, it wasn't automatically given, and you had to specifically ask for it. Even then, for a two-day stay, we only received one bottle.
