The location of Loop on Leith strikes a near-perfect balance.
Although the hotel sits close to the lively Lebuh Chulia, it is cleverly tucked away along Leith Street. Chulia Street is a hub for backpackers and nightlife, so evenings can get noisy. By setting itself slightly inward, Loop on Leith neatly avoids the brunt of street noise, while still placing you just a four-minute walk from the iconic Blue Mansion (Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion), where you can easily begin your street food adventure.
Its positioning works as an ideal base for urban exploration. Head north and you’ll find the refined charm of the heritage district; head south and you step straight into the vibrant pulse of the city center.
The hotel embraces an Urban Chic concept, deliberately doing away with traditional heavy carpeting—a smart choice in a tropical climate, as it helps reduce mustiness and allergens. Instead, modern hard flooring and bright lighting create a space that feels noticeably fresher and cleaner, both visually and physically, compared to older Peranakan-style hotels in the same price range.
Rooms here tend to be on the smaller side. For two guests traveling with large luggage, the space can feel a bit tight. It’s best suited for travelers who spend most of their day বাইরে exploring and simply want a comfortable place to rest at night—think light packers or efficiency-focused “urban explorers.”
At roughly RM250 per night, Loop on Leith delivers a boutique-like aesthetic and standardized service at a budget hotel price point. The value-for-money and overall sense of comfort are impressive.
It lacks the heavy, sometimes oppressive atmosphere of heritage buildings, and also avoids the blandness of chain hotels. This makes it especially appealing to young couples, solo travelers, or business visitors.
If you’re looking for a spacious executive suite, this may not be the right choice. But if your priorities are efficiency, cleanliness, and stepping straight into great food and scenery the moment you walk out, it stands out as a smart option in George Town’s mid-range market.
For an even better stay, consider requesting a higher-floor room—it offers a slightly more open view and helps buffer early morning street noise from passing motorcycles.
Clean rooms, excellent service, and a strategic location for events or expos at the SPICE Arena. It’s just a few minutes' walking distance to the venue. I will definitely stay here again for future events
This was our first time in Penang, and it was our honeymoon! When I made the reservation, I added a note about it, and the hotel staff really did prepare our room in advance. Even though we arrived at the hotel in the middle of the night, there was a cake already waiting in the room, and it was decorated with rose petals and swans. A huge thank you! 🙏 We'll definitely stay at this hotel again if we come back to Penang. The emotional value was through the roof! Plus, it was super convenient to get everywhere by taxi.
The Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion (also known as The Blue Mansion) boasts an excellent location in George Town's historic district. Right across the street are the Clan Jetties, and there are countless historical buildings nearby, making it incredibly convenient for exploring. What truly stands out is the hotel staff; they are exceptionally polite and attentive. The hotel itself is an old heritage building, so the facilities are a little dated, but they are very well-maintained. The rooms are cleaned immaculately every day, and the breakfast offers a wide variety of choices to suit most tastes. For this area, it offers fantastic value for money.
Excellent location to delicious local food - char kway teow, hokien prawn noodles. Fried beehoon with fried fish meat (available only in the morning). Don't forget to order ambra drink. Love it!
The first shop on the left when you get out of the hotel, we ate there 3 times. Yummy
Every night the local food stalls along the street will be busy with lots of people.
The charcoal fried char kway teow's queue can be up to 1.5 hours.
They start at two pm so go early. Close on Wednesday.
Across the street from the hotel, you can buy Penang Tau sar pniah.. there is a nonya restaurant but we didn't try.
“I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The staff were friendly, professional, and always ready to help. The location was convenient, with easy access to nearby attractions and restaurants. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.”
The hotel's location is excellent, and it's very clean. The rooftop pool is spotless, and the large windows in the rooms offer a great view. The breakfast is abundant, and the service is excellent. Definitely recommend staying here. I'll choose this hotel again when I visit Penang.
It is located somewhere in between Batu Ferringhi beaches and George town which depending on what your objectives are you should stay to nearer to those locality
It's Location next to Lotus hypermarket is superb.
Not much facilities and amenities. Bathroom is very old school though overall room size is not bad.
Not much view.
Lobby area is dark and black. Breakfast is not the best but decent.
Staff are helpful.
The location is fantastic, right in the heart of George Town, making it super convenient for dining, shopping, and exploring. The room itself is pretty well-maintained. My only gripes are the unstable Wi-Fi and the weak water pressure in the shower.
Everything of this hotel is all good, the location, the environment. In the radius of one kilometer you can get anything all kind of food either morning or at night, convenient store, the shopping mall, souvenir shop. There is only one thing that I have problem with. The double bed that I have is a little bit of shaky and making sound every time I flip my body .. you know especially at night, it makes things uncomfortable. The hotel should have to do something about this. Over all things are excellent, I recommend this hotel and would come back again.

Ssj91this hotel is good overall, but when we arrived, they told us that we didn't have a booking with them and they couldn't locate our booking and details. the room was also said to be taken, and they are waiting for a cancellation in order to get our room. There is a lot of confusion among staff. some visitors were told to leave their rooms once they have entered. we waiting 1 hr 30 min to get our room. so check in was at 4.30pm. parking was also very inconvenient, as we had to park at the basement, which was impossible to even get one if you came into the hotel late and a T&G card was also needed to get validated before leaving the hotel if we wanted a free spot. Room was very spacious and clean. the tea and coffee was hard like its never been changed.
GGuest UserThe check-in process took an excessively long time, with waiting times exceeding one hour due to the large crowd. The hotel management should consider improving the check-in procedure to ensure guests do not have to wait for such an extended period.
In addition, the check-out time of 11:00 a.m. is quite early, and the hotel was unable to provide any flexibility for a slightly later check-out, despite guests having to endure a lengthy wait during check-in.
Furthermore, we found a rove beetle (commonly known as “Charlie ant”) in our hotel room, which raised concerns regarding room cleanliness and guest comfort.
Overall, we hope the hotel will take these matters into consideration and make improvements to enhance the guest experience.

Ssea.sun.mountainMy family and I recently enjoyed a stay at Angsana Teluk Bahang and found it to be the perfect choice for a relaxing staycation. Located on the quieter side of Penang, the resort is about 40–50 minutes from George Town, which may feel a little far from the city centre, but that's exactly what makes it special.
If you're looking to escape the traffic, crowds, and bustle of town, Angsana offers a peaceful beachfront retreat with plenty of space to unwind. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with beautiful sea views, and the beach is not crowded at all.
The infinity pool overlooking the sea was a favourite spot for our family, especially in the evenings when the sunset painted the sky over the Straits of Malacca.
The staff were consistently friendly and attentive, helping to make the stay smooth and enjoyable from check-in to departure.
Although the resort feels secluded, it's still only a short drive from Batu Ferringhi if you want to explore local food, night markets, or nearby attractions. For us, however, the best part was simply slowing down and enjoying the calm surroundings.
Overall, Angsana Teluk Bahang is an excellent option for families seeking a relaxing beachfront staycation. While it is some distance from the city, the peaceful atmosphere, beautiful sea views, and resort facilities make it well worth the trip, will definitely come again!

FfhatihahOverall, I'm satisfied, but of course, there were a few things that weren't perfect, haha. Check-in was good and fast, even though there were a lot of people. There was complimentary juice while waiting to check-in. The swimming pool is great and big, with slides for kids too. The kids' room is amazing, with a ball pit, PS5 games, slides, and more! The kids' room is definitely the best 👍🏻 Breakfast was a bit disappointing because the table I got was hot. Didn't feel the air conditioning at all. The room was great, sea view, and clean. Parking was a bit difficult. It's first-come, first-served, or you'll have to valet park if you want secure parking. The staff were very friendly. Excellent.
PPetrelHad a fantastic stay! The room was spacious and very comfortable. The free parking was a huge bonus. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Unlike other hotels that offer a welcome drink, Sho Hotel provides a complimentary coffee/tea/orange juice every single day. If you stay for several days, you get several drinks – it's such a thoughtful touch! I'd redeem mine every morning before heading out, and the staff would put it in a to-go cup for me to take with me. Absolutely delightful! ❤️
Sho Hotel will definitely be my first choice next time I visit Penang!
WWalter Zhou-zhouyipingOn a business trip to Penang, I'd stayed here before and chose this hotel again. The location is excellent, about a 30-minute drive from Penang International Airport. There are plenty of restaurants, supermarkets, and shopping malls nearby, and it's not far from the Street Art area. The front desk is on the 20th floor; the staff are friendly, and there's a comfortable business and lounge area. The room amenities are comprehensive and clean. This time, I noticed they added a water dispenser, which is eco-friendly and convenient for guests from different countries, offering warm, hot, and iced water. Breakfast on the 21st floor isn't extensive but decent. There's also a good cafe right opposite the hotel with nice breakfast options. Overall, a great experience. I'll choose this hotel again next time.
