Xi'an Metro is one of the main ways to get around the city, with a network of 12 metro lines covering around 422 kilometres (262 miles) and more than 200 stations. The network connects central Xi'an with major residential and commercial areas, railway stations and the airport, making it a convenient option for both locals and visitors. The first metro line, Line 2, opened in 2011, and the network has continued to expand in recent years.
Several lines are particularly useful for travellers. Line 2 runs through central Xi'an and stops near the Bell Tower, Yongning Gate and Xiaozhai, while Lines 3 and 4 provide convenient access to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and surrounding Tang Dynasty attractions. Line 9 connects Fangzhicheng with the Lintong area, making it useful for trips towards Huaqing Palace and the Terracotta Warriors area. Xi'an Metro is a convenient way to get around the city, with several lines connecting major attractions, railway stations and transport hubs. For visitors, Lines 2, 3, 4, 9 and 14 are particularly useful.

The Xi'an Metro is brilliant because it's very affordable. Navigating the city via this network is exceptionally budget-friendly. It's incredibly cheap compared to what you'd pay in London.

Alipay Metro Code
If you have Alipay set up (highly recommended for any trip to China), this is by far the most convenient option. No cash, no tokens—just scan and go.
To set it up: open Alipay → go to "Transport" → switch to "Metro" → get the "Xi'an Electronic Metro Card". That's it!
Scan the QR code at the entry and exit gates. The fare is automatically deducted after your journey. It works on buses too!
Single Journey Tokens

Riding the Xi'an Metro is simple. Follow these steps to get around the city:

- Go through security: Put your bags through the security scanner before entering the metro station.

Tips for Using the Xi'an Metro
- Try to avoid travelling during peak hours. Weekday mornings between 7:30 and 9:00, and evenings from 5:30 to 7:30, can get incredibly busy.
- Make sure you choose the right exit when you're at a large station. These stations have plenty of exits, so check the map to see which one is closest to where you want to go.
- If you're using Alipay or the metro app to pay for your journey, make sure your phone is charged.
- Just a heads-up: eating and drinking aren't allowed on the trains, so be sure to finish your snacks before you hop on board!
- It's a good idea to carry some small change with you, just in case you need it. Cash is always a handy backup.

The hotel's location is excellent, right near the Bell Tower. We took Metro Line 2 from Xi'an North Station, and the hotel entrance is right by a Line 2 station, making getting around incredibly convenient. Line 2 is the main north-south line through Xi'an's central urban area, allowing transfers to most other lines along the way, so you barely need a taxi. The room was clean and tidy, the air conditioning was very powerful, and it was very quiet at night for a good rest. The smart toilet had many functions and was very comfortable to use. Lovely hotel, we had a huge room with 2 TVs and probably one of my favourite showers out of hundreds of hotels. The breakfast was great, staff very friendly and great location right at the heart of Xian and only 30-40min by Didi from XianBei (North Station). The exterior of the hotel didn't do it justice, but once you are in the lobby everything is taken care of. Drum and Bell towers are both easily walkable 10-15min stroll through restaurant streets and make a lovely sunset visit (open till 9pm) and wandering around the exciting if slightly chaotic street food vendors of the Muslim Quarter just next to the towers are well exploring. Get some Biang Biang or a Xian traditional Chinese Burger. The Metro is also about 10-15 mins walk roughly near the drum tower which can take you to Huaqing Palace in about 50mins North East of the city (1 simple line change) I suggest you get entry tickets and shuttle for both palace and Terracotta Warriors (+10 mins shuttle from Huaqing Palace).FromJPY 9,695

It was a pleasant stay with the very reasonable price with breakfast provided.
But what it shocked us was the room we requested is FULLY NON SMOKING ROOM and the signage display a non smoking room level, you still can smell heavy cigarettes on the floor, even you can spot the cigarette smoke under the light clearly. I think the hotel caters the group tours and the local guests were arranged on the same floor and they open their doors and fully, chi-chatting to next door loudly and smoking in the same time with fully ignoring the signage warning. This is the only unpleasant way with our experience on staying 2 nights here.
Oh ya, by the way the hotel should limit the tour agent on hard selling their local package tour to the guests too repetitive. We have arranged our tour and told them all were booked in advanced, but their hard sell attitude has annoyed us many times while entering or exiting the hotel.

Facilities: I've been staying at this Xi'an location since it opened until this year. The facilities might be a bit older compared to some of the newer Backpacker Ten-Year establishments.
Cleanliness: The room attendants always clean the rooms thoroughly, but there are always some inconsiderate guests who litter, and the waste bins in the bathrooms are often full of paper. The shower area can also be slippery at times.
Environment: The environment is excellent, no complaints there. From the inside out, the staff – including the front desk ladies and gentlemen and the cleaning aunties – keep everything very tidy.

Unfortunately i didn't take many pictures but recorded videos. I booked a room type as shown in the first but received something smaller as the one in the second pic, weirdly cut. I didn't notice it as first as i was distracted by the strong smoke smell and asked the lady to change, who tried to sell me a qin shi huang mausoleum tour. Then i was brought to a room type as the one in the first pic, that's when i realised that's what i initially had booked... but there was still a smoke smell and as i really had to use the toilet i simply thought of using the A/C and opening the window, hoping it'd get better. By the evening i got startled by someone knocking at the door only to realise it was someone knocking on my neighbouring door. That's when i realised there was a 1-2cm gap between the floor and door and why i heard that loud knock. I also noticed neighbouring doors were fine and even asked the neighbouring guests if they could hear me. Anyway; that's when i demanded for a second change and only then, when i was a bit assertive and insisting on a new room, did i get a proper room. But there was small issue with the 3rd room too, with the drainage as the water took around 5mins to flow away, making noise. But that wasn't an big issue. It seems like this hotel seems to follow the procedure to give problematic rooms to customers who seem easy-going, which is a known tactic to chinese people from china but not so to foreigners. Beside of that, my stay was pleasant, the breakfast was rich and they have a big variety. I just think it was a bit of a waste of time trying to sell those tobacco smell rooms to me. You can easily fix those by endorsing proper no smoking rules or use a filter machine before, removing smoke. Beside of the convenience as it's really close to all main attractions i just find those actions subpar. Which is an issue with whoever decides to implement such strategies.FromJPY 6,590

If you love the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda and the Grand Tang Dynasty Everbright City, the Westin's location is unbeatable. The service was meticulous, and the Executive Lounge offers a fantastic view of the Pagoda. The concierge team was also very helpful with sending and receiving packages and preparing breakfast in advance. Overall, my experience was excellent! Of course, there was a minor hiccup. On the 16th day of the first ***** month, we used a hotel voucher to rent Tang dynasty costumes and get makeup done at a shop on the first floor. The convenience of its proximity and location was great. However, when we returned to the lobby, my child's headpiece was too tight, causing a headache, and she needed to sit down to adjust it. We sat down in a consumer area, and a bar attendant instantly appeared, telling us we couldn't sit there without making a purchase. The speed of their appearance definitely left a bad impression, especially since my child was complaining of a headache, and the attendant quickly urged us to leave. Personally, I feel that if the staff had asked if we were hotel guests and the reason for sitting, and then offered a suggestion or reminder, it would have felt more thoughtful. Furthermore, when we left, there was an empty table nearby with foreigners sitting there, and no one told them to leave, which made the situation even stranger. All in all, this minor incident doesn't overshadow the overall positive experience. Found a hidden gem in Xi'an! My stay here far exceeded my expectations, and I genuinely recommend it to everyone.
The hotel is right by the Yuxiang Gate city wall, and the subway station is just downstairs, making getting around super convenient! The lobby is spacious and grand, and the front desk staff were very friendly and checked us in quickly.
We booked a room with a floor-to-ceiling window, and when you open the curtains, you can see the Xi'an city wall – the ancient city's scenery is completely breathtaking, creating an incredible atmosphere. The room was spacious and spotless, the bedding was soft, and the soundproofing was good. After a day of exploring, we could really get some solid rest. There was 24-hour hot water, comprehensive toiletries, and all the facilities were well-maintained. The buffet breakfast offered a rich variety, with both local specialties and Chinese/Western simple meals, and it all tasted great. The hotel also has free parking, which is a big plus for those driving.
I especially want to highlight the location. Here's a quick guide to nearby attractions:
✅ Guangren Temple is just a ten-minute walk away, perfect for taking photos with the famous red walls.

Service: Every lady at the front desk was kind and extremely attentive. We checked out a bit late, and they extended our checkout time to 3 PM, which was really thoughtful. The staff even helped us with our luggage to the car and offered us drinks.
Cleanliness: The room was tidy and comfortable, and the bedding and bath amenities were very clean. However, the pillows had a slight odor of hair oil.
Environment: The surrounding area has convenient transportation. The Xigong University subway station is just a few minutes' walk away, including a pedestrian overpass. There are also street food vendors just a few steps away. My only complaint is that Xi'an surprisingly doesn't have shared e-bikes, only shared bicycles. Riding a bicycle to tourist attractions will make you question your life choices. We were a family of three staying in this room, with executive lounge access. On the first day during check-in, as the room wasn't ready, the front desk let us go to the executive lounge to rest first. The service from the lady at the lounge that day was also very nice. What was quite absurd happened on the 28th when our family went to the executive lounge for tea. The server there came over and told us that our room's executive lounge access was only for two people, which is just ridiculous! We had three breakfast coupons, and on the first day during check-in, it was also stated for three people. She went to confirm and came back saying: 'It's only for two people, but she 'additionally' requested for us to use it normally.'
First of all, I suspect she made a mistake and then acted as if she was granting us a favor by saying it was an 'additional' request. The architecture blends Han and Tang Chinese styles, giving the lobby a grand and dignified feel. The guest rooms are spacious with separate wet and dry areas in the bathroom. The bedding is soft and thick, and the in-room soundproofing is excellent – you won't hear any street traffic noise.
