How to Buy Guangzhou Metro Tickets?
Guangzhou Metro now makes payment much easier for international visitors. All stations including the APM line support the four major foreign bank cards (Visa, Mastercard, JCB and American Express), and you can simply tap your card at any gate displaying the card logo to enter and exit.
You can also buy a Single Journey Ticket (the green plastic token 🟢) from station ticket machines using cash or mobile payment. Frequent travellers can use the Guangzhou Metro official app or the Alipay or WeChat mini-program to generate a QR code ticket for quick entry. Visitors may also purchase a stored-value Yang Cheng Tong Card at the service counter, with a refundable 20 RMB deposit, and use it for buses and ferries as well. Hotel Location: Prime business district, convenient but prone to traffic jams
The hotel's location is truly excellent, situated right next to Zhengjia Plaza on Tianhe Road. Stepping out, you're seamlessly connected to a bustling commercial area, making shopping, strolling, and dining incredibly convenient. However, precisely because it's in a core business district, the surrounding traffic is bound to be congested during peak hours. Whether driving or taking a taxi, the last few hundred meters can take a considerable amount of time. It's advisable to factor in extra time and check traffic conditions upon arrival.
Hotel Environment: Well-equipped, but cleanliness details need improvement
The hotel generally offers the comfort expected of a standard five-star establishment. The decor and facilities are well-maintained and function smoothly without issues. Disappointingly, however, the room's cleanliness was rather mediocre. Dust was visible on obvious surfaces like the bedside table (see photos), which is quite detrimental to the stay experience for a five-star hotel.
Hotel Facilities: Comprehensive, meeting daily needs
All of the hotel's hardware facilities worked well. The comprehensive amenities met guests' daily rest and leisure needs. Although some areas might show a slight sense of age, the overall maintenance was good, with no facility malfunctions or inconveniences.
Hotel Service: Low efficiency, attitude needs improvement
This was the most critical area for improvement during this stay. Firstly, check-in efficiency was extremely low. Arriving at 3 PM, a twin room was still not available. Even after asking Trip.com customer service to expedite the process, we didn't receive the room key until 5 PM, severely disrupting our plans for rest. Secondly, the front desk staff's training was clearly inadequate; their arrogant attitude completely fell short of my consistent impression of Marriott staff being professional and enthusiastic, which was quite disappointing.
Hotel Dining: On par, highly recommended
The hotel's dining experience was outstanding and a major highlight of this stay. The buffet breakfast on the fifth floor offered a wide and diverse selection, catering to various tastes. The Chinese restaurant on the sixth floor not only had excellent dishes but also provided attentive and thoughtful service. The overall experience was superb and highly recommended.
Overall, I am satisfied with my comprehensive experience at this hotel, especially its impeccable location and excellent dining. However, I also hope the hotel addresses the existing issues, genuinely improves the front desk staff's attitude, enhances check-in efficiency, and strengthens control over room cleanliness. The room is very spacious, and the overall environment is excellent. The service attitude is superb, especially Front Desk Assistant Xiao Lin, who was very enthusiastic and kind. The only downsides are that the hotel is a bit old, and the facilities are a bit dated. The air conditioner in our room was leaking, but Xiao Lin was incredibly helpful and quickly arranged a room change. However, the new room was quite noisy due to its proximity to the road and ongoing subway construction. The room had large windows. The breakfast leaned towards Western style; it wouldn't be worth it if paid for separately, especially compared to the excellent dim sum (Cantonese morning tea) readily available throughout Guangzhou. My flight was delayed, so I didn't arrive until after midnight, but they kindly extended my check-out time, which I really appreciated. The room was clean and the facilities were relatively new, with a nice view outside the window. Overall, it still had an old-money vibe, as the hotel's age is undeniable, and even renovations have their limitations. I particularly want to mention the faucet in the bathroom sink – it didn't have a filter, and the spout was quite high, so water splashed everywhere when turned on. The instant coffee in the room was terrible, though the coffee machine in the buffet restaurant was decent. For the buffet lunch, the desserts, ice cream, and fruit were good, but the main courses were mediocre. The sashimi always had a long line, and its presentation was a bit lacking.

I took my mom to Guangzhou, and it truly exceeded our expectations! My mom kept asking me how I found this hotel. It's surrounded by malls, and the moment we arrived, all the fatigue from our journey melted away, replaced by the soothing sound of flowing water. The hotel staff were all incredibly attentive. The front desk ladies always greeted us with genuine smiles, and the bellmen on the first floor were always quick to open and close our car doors. Interesting: glass wall between room and bathroom, it can be covered by a curtain if necessary. This is a classic hotel in the heart of Guangzhou, and its location is really good. The exterior also looks quite grand. The rooms are spacious, and the views from them are very nice. You can also go up to the 63rd floor for an even better view. Breakfast was decent, but it was a shame that during my three-day stay, the noodle station only had a chef on the last morning. I found the front desk service quite subpar. I waited in line for ages, and several male receptionists kept ignoring me or shunting me to a different queue. They were busy chatting casually with the guests in front of them and didn't bother calling the next person. They spent half an hour on pointless conversation, and it felt like it would never end. I was so annoyed waiting that they finally called out a female receptionist from the back to help me with my room card. Also, in the lobby, we were dragging our luggage around, and no staff member came over to offer assistance. Overall, I felt there was hardly any service.
There's no self-service laundry room, which I think is a significant drawback. Since there are no room service robots, I had to go up and down to collect my food orders every time, which was a real hassle.
The room hygiene was good, but I find it incredibly stingy for a five-star hotel to charge for a tiny bit of coke and other items in the minibar. Many hotels now offer complimentary minibars.

I really love this classic State Guesthouse. The White Swan Hotel has a deep-rooted history, and the staff are all very professional and well-qualified. For dinner, we went to the Jade Garden restaurant on the third floor. We got a table right away without waiting, around 5:15 PM. There was a live guzheng performance for 45 minutes, and hotel guests get a 15% discount on food, plus a 15% service charge. Our meal for two cost 1075 yuan.
We stayed in a river view room. The blackout curtains worked great, so no sunlight came through in the morning. The shower had excellent water pressure, making for a comfortable wash.
What was unpleasant, however, was the service at the bakery on the first floor. A tall female staff member, upon hearing I wanted to buy a Napoleon cake to send home, immediately told me it couldn't be shipped. She claimed they'd had incidents where customers complained about expired food after shipping, blaming the delivery person. I told her that if I chose to ship it, I would accept the risk of spoilage and she needn't worry. She insisted I call SF Express to confirm if they would ship Napoleon cakes. I made the call, and the courier arrived quickly to pick up the package. Plus, SF Express offers next-day air delivery. It's not necessary for the bakery staff to play the role of a know-it-all when it comes to potential disputes with couriers later on. If I couldn't ship it, I'd just eat it myself. Why make a customer who has traveled so far so unhappy? Why create so many hurdles just to sell a cake? I really don't understand. Her well-intentioned advice, which crossed professional boundaries, was unnecessary. A simple reminder would have sufficed. If I couldn't ship it, would she have refused to sell it to me? It's such a simple process: the customer wants to buy bread, you scan the code and take payment. This was truly bizarre.FromDKK 812
