Sepilok Jungle Resort

Sepilok|0.23km from Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC)
I stayed at this resort for 2 nights, for the obvious reason of visiting the very close Sepilok Orangutans Rehabilitation Centre. I was a bit worried reading some of the reviews here but I had a very nice experience. The hotel is in the middle of the jungle and that is an experience itself. I had a room in the building 5 minutes walk from the main area (the less you pay, the more far you are). The food is not the best and I think it's a bit expensive for the quality. The swimming pool setting is very nice though I have skin issues and didn't use the pool (wasn't super clean). The staff is okay. They kept my bag for free at the reception with them since I had valuables and the room wasn't ready already (I arrived before check in time). They organized the transport back to the airport (it takes about 40 minutes by car, you can easily use Grab for around 19RM but leaving early in the morning I preferred to book in advance). The room is nice. A/C works (not too strong), bathroom is fine, bed and pillows a bit hard but nothing too extreme. All in all, it was an amazing experience. The hotel is walking distance to both the orangutans and the sun bear centres (literally a 5 minutes walk) and about half an hour to the Rainforest Discovery Center (beware of stray dogs not in the hotel, but in the area around it). I would suggest this place to people who don't mind basic accommodation and want to stay in the jungle. The atmosphere with the other guests was nice and relaxed. Free breakfast included with the room price (at least as I am typing this review). They can also book tours.

Sepilok Forest Edge Resort

We spent 4 nights over new year at the resort together with friends and enjoyed the stay a lot. The resort is really beautiful, at the edge of the jungle, full of trees and plants, with the houses nicely and loosely spread over the resort. The houses are nicely build and have a jungle outside shower. The resort has a really good restaurant serving local and delicious food. The staff is very friendly and the kids loved it as well.

The Pavilion Hotel

Glad that I stayed just for 1 night, but that 1 night cause me to have a bar flu, as I am allergic to dusty. The place itself is okay, and quite convenient for those who just want to stay for a day transit, as it is near to the airport, and only 20mins to Sepilok Orang Utan. The place is rundown, as u can see in the pictures, they seem not to have effort to change the bad wall paper, clean the dusty etc. Really need to refurbish again. Stay away if u have an allergic to dusty, u will regret like me. But a good area for transit in terms of location. Breakfast food was just okay.
One Avenue Hotel (Ijm)

We stay for 2nights. 1st we got the room with electrical problem, as I request, they able to change another room for me. Lobby was clean. I got the ground floor room right beside the road. The room can hear sound of vehicle pass by, if unfortunately you get the people playing their motorbike then no choice. Nice location, right in IJM. Alot of food and drinks nearby. The room not so clean but acceptable.
Paganakan Dii Tropical Retreat

We stayed in the shared accommodation which was fine, 5 bunk beds in one space but the space was big enough and didn't feel cramped. Theres no Aircon in the shared accommodation but the 4 fans were sufficient at night, although the room was pretty hot in the day so hard to find somewhere cool enough to chill. The whole place is a little run down, the reception/restaurant area was nice, it has WiFi and a great view of the jungle, lots of mosquitos so bring repellent. There's a free shuttle bus at 9am, 2pm and 4pm that goes to the sun bears, orangutans and rainforest discovery centres. There arnt any shops walking distance. Be warned they only accept cash and the closest A** is a 60RM taxi away. The food menu prices were fair but the food is basic. Free breakfast in the morning. The staff are also really nice. The only serious downside but a reason we'd never stay here again is the toilets and showers. The toilets are musky, humid and smelly. The showers have untreated bricks exposed and orange mold, just really grotty and not a nice experience using them.

Although this hotel is a bit old, it is very clean, the room is very large, and the service is very good. The traffic is very convenient.
