I stay at this hotel almost every month, but this time was definitely one of my worst experiences. Issue 1: The key card system for the elevators and room doors is a problem. The elevator card reader often doesn't work, and I usually have to try opening my room door three to five times or more. This system is ancient and really needs an upgrade. Issue 2: While dining in the executive lounge, I found insects. The staff's handling of the situation was unprofessional and inadequate, making me feel disrespected. Truly a poor stay.

The Gateway Hotel truly boasts a prime location, backing directly onto Harbour City. You can step right into the mall for shopping, dining, and enjoying the sea view without even crossing a street. This means you're completely unaffected by wind or rain, making it incredibly convenient to get around – a huge plus.

Considering its excellent location, the price point of around 1,000 HKD offers decent value for money. The rooms are more spacious than many other hotels in the same area, so they don't feel cramped. I even got a complimentary upgrade to an executive floor this time, which significantly improved the amenities and overall comfort of my stay.

However, the hotel does have some noticeable drawbacks. It's an older property, so the facilities are showing their age, and the decor feels quite dated. The biggest issue affecting my rest was the air conditioning; it was quite noisy when running, especially noticeable in the quiet of the night. This could be bothersome for light sleepers.

Although the hotel is a bit old, it's very well-maintained. There's no strange smell in the room, and the bed and duvet were dry and comfortable. The air conditioning was powerful, unlike some hotels where you can turn down the temperature as much as you like, but the room still feels stuffy.

The hotel staff were all professional and polite. The front desk staff, without us even asking, arranged two connecting rooms for us, which was super convenient! Housekeeping was also very proactive, keeping the rooms clean and tidy!

And most importantly, the hotel's location is excellent. It's inside the Gateway building of Harbour City, making it incredibly easy to get to all the other buildings in Harbour City. During the hot and rainy summer, you could spend a whole day here without needing to go outside, just moving between the different buildings and shopping to your heart's content. The experience was fantastic!

Xiamen's first five-star hotel, with incredibly thoughtful and warm service! We ordered takeout several times a day, and unlike other hotels that use robots, they had actual staff deliver our food. Plus, during a concert, the hotel provided a free shuttle service, and it was a Mercedes-Benz! Very impressed! The outdoor pool is also great 👍

We had a wonderful stay at the Marco Polo Plaza. The hotel offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, and the views from the Nivel Hills are absolutely stunning. Our room was clean, spacious, and provided the perfect environment for a relaxing getaway.
What really stood out, however, was the exceptional service. The staff were incredibly professional and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable throughout our visit. From the delicious breakfast buffet to the well-maintained pool area, everything exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be returning!
