Great view, either to the ocean or to the mountain. Surrounded by curral vineyards. We had a very warm welcoming. The hostes is extremely nice and you'll feel at ease, like you know her for a long time. She gave us a map with the main attractions and restaurants. All the restaurants she listed were spor on. The room is very spacious, and has great amenities. With a full kitchen. It's in a good location 5 minutes form Madalena. Don't think you can't get much better than this.

Def refer to Susan M review below….she’s spot on. I basically was going to repeat everything she said. The design as previous post wasn’t an issue for us, just kind of deal w it. Stunning views for sure. We didn’t have a rental car upon arrival, but our check in lady got one for us, I can’t recall her name, but she was super sweet n helpful. You will need a car unless u want to walk 50 min to town. Although the walk along the coast through vineyards is nice. Overall, this was a great place to stay but secluded.

With a beautiful setting close to the ocean, we stayed in one of the new two-bedroom villas (not the hotel for which most of the reviews are for). There are some design issues including literally no where to put your luggage in the bedroom. Due to exceptionally poor planning on the designer's part, we "opted" for the floor in the main living area. The western facing decks are without any shade creating an overheated interior and a relentlessly hot and uninviting deck in the afternoon. Plantings or some sort of fabric for the shade structure will likely be added. However, the value of the existing villa is not worth the price given these issues. I offered management constructive criticism including the notion that a discount should be built into the price until these issues are resolved as I genuinely want the place to succeed. I encourage you to ask for a discount in advance if these matters remain unresolved. Twenty-four villas are in the works. Note: we were properly warned about construction noise before arriving, to be clear that was NOT an issue.

Excellent accommodation and location. We had a one bedroom duplex apar**ent with sea views and a terrace with loungers and table/chairs. The accommodation is above the old small port and offers great views across to Faial especially at sunset. The hosts were very accommodating as we had a delay in collecting car at airport so were later than planned in arriving. A standard tourist map of island had been annotated with places to eat which was very useful, also local information regarding use of the ferries was helpful. Each morning breakfast was provided in the large corridor so guests could help themselves then eat in their rooms. There is a mini bar within the kitchen fridge which was supplied with reasonable priced drinks as there are no shops nearby. The accommodation is located in the area with unique vineyards within volcanic stone walls and a few km from Madelena so a car is essential.

We spent three nights and were extremely happy with our decision to stay. The room looked exactly like the pictures, tastefully done and comfortable. The staff responded timely to messages before our arrival. Once there they were pleasant and helpful. Definitely recommend Vinhas do Calhau

The room was very cozy and clean. Bedroom and bathroom upstairs and kitchen and lounge downstairs. Breakfast was excellent and varied. The view of the ocean was the highlight. The hotel team was very friendly too. Special thanks to Mrs. Joana who was very kind and helpful during our stay. I highly recommend Vinhas do Calhau for everyone who wants to enjoy the beauty of Pico island and relax peacefully with the sound of the waves.

Pleasant and helpful staff! The apar**ent suite we stayed in (#4) was wonderful. Clean, spacious, quiet, stylish and well equipped, and with a large sunny patio overlooking the sea! The location is an easy 10 minute drive to Madalena, and far enough out for peaceful ocean breezes. Continental breakfast was sufficient. Unfortunately, must drive somewhere for dinner although we walked up to the local cafe/pub for some cheap beers! Overall a 5 out of 5! Looking forward to seeing the progress of the construction of the single units and restaurant!

Our first time to Pico & we packed alot into two days. Ana Paula & Joana went the extra mile to help organize transportation, restaurants & sightseeing. Their small Boutique B&B is literally right in the UNESCO Vineyards. Clean, spacious, quiet...& a spectacular morning view of the Pico mountain from our patio! And very affordable. Looking forward to going back soon.

In june 2022, the hotel was as it is in the pics. It is confortable, beauty, with amazing views and Ana and Claudia are very good in their Job. The only bad thing (and the hotel cant do anything with that) is that kust in front and Behind of the hotel are works and the noise can disturb your relaxing time. The works are done even in saturdays. If you are picky with that, before book, call them and assure you wont have works in front of you during your holidays. This is the only bad thing, nothing to see with the hotel by itself but I think futuro guests will appreciate to know. Thanks.
