Simple and humble hotel Easy place close to funchal Swiming pool perfect just hill kill me

We’ve been here a number of years ago and were pleased to find that it has remained as good as we remember it. Great staff, great location and great a**osphere.

The hotel is very nice and well located, but the food is very limited in terms of variety and not so tasty. Usually half board, I know you come in with dinner and leave with breakfast. At this hotel, to have a minimum breakfast package, because we checked out at 07:00 and the restaurant opened at 07:30 we were asked to pay 15 pounds extra, which doesn't seem fair to me like us . I have already paid .

Please be warned that the hotel is charging 40 Euros per person for the dinner buffet, which is mediocre at the very best. No indication or posting of the price was given and before anyone makes a judgement, mystery meat is not on my list of a 40 euro per person dining experience. Yes, one had to pay for tap water on top! Plain spaghetti, white rice, potato in warming trays brought back memories of a childhood school cafeteria lunch. Used dishes were being scraped of leftover food, as well as the general sorting and tossing of cutlery in the MIDDLE of the restaurant as patrons were eating. This is a 4 star establishment? I don’t mind spending on a great meal, but I can get a 100 times better experience in Canada at Mandarin, a Chinese/carvery restaurant chain for half the price. Beware. Still here, but won’t be ripped off again.

The hotel is great being on the seafront as it stands plus reception staff and all the cleaning and service staff were very helpful and friendly and my partner was treated to a gift from the hotel on his big 60th birthday falling on our 2nd day as the cleaner must have seen the cards and informed the management. We had no aircon but they are currently fitting the infrastructure for this which did not detract from the stay and any room issues were quickly resolved. A courtesy bus runs 2x a day taking guests to and from the hotel to Funchal which can be also be reached by a no1 bus or by walking which takes approx 1.5 hours.The breakfasts were varied and there was a large choice of options for vegetarians, we like to eat out at different venues so didnt go half or full board. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel whose rooms overlook the sea which is relaxing at night, and the lovely pool which does too and would definitely stay again.

Location is perfect Staff are just great Breakfast very good Very happy here Right on the beachfront. It’s a quiet location which suits us. There are lovely beach shack/ restaurants which serve really well cooked food beautifully presented and nice drinks a short walk away Very reasonably priced. Swimming in the sea in front of this hotel is wonderful or there is a large hotel pool It’s perfect all round Oh. And there is a free shuttle bus into Funchal daily
