We celebrated our wedding anniversary at WA-Chicago and this is our first time staying at WA in the United States. Last WA stay was in Thailand where the experience was superb! Reservation was easy via the app and the concierge emailed me a week in advance asking if there was anything they can do to prepare of our stay. I had a terrible experience with a Hilton hotel in Las Vegas in Dec 2022 where a stranger opened my hotel door at 11:20 pm. I am still experiencing PTSD so I asked if the concierge can provide anything lavender (scent/oil) so I can be relaxed. Also, since it's our wedding anniversary, perhaps anything in that theme would be nice. First the concierge addressed me as Mr instead of Mrs. Unsure why one automatically thinks that it's the man who made the hotel booking. Second, the concierge wasn't able to meet my requests which was non-issue. We declined turn-down service but requested chocolate where they were never delivered during our stay. A robe was missing in the closet and room service delivered it immediately. There wasn't any coffee or tea in the room but the dining service delivered my hot tea in 30 minutes which was acceptable. The bed was comfortable but sound insulation wasn't great since we could hear neighbors' chatting at midnight. We used the steam/sauna for 30 minutes before checking out and the spa was a nice facility. The hotel is nicely located in the Gold Coast area where it is closed to many lovely restaurants. The reception area is kind of small and there were 2 guest service staffs assisting with check-in/out.

The first impression of this hotel is very warm and nice. Check in was good. The room was okay. WiFi is horrible. We saw the first silverfish as soon as we got in. The employees were pleasant throughout our stay…until. Check out is at 12 noon. At 8:04 am housekeeping knocked at the door twice, about 4 seconds, and just opened the door. Thank goodness I had the security latch on. WHAT???? I then heard housekeeping knock on the next door and open it. Someone in the room yelled “hey” and we heard housekeeping say “oh I’m sorry”. WHAT??? That is the worst practice that any hotel could ever do. It isn’t known that you can’t walk in on guests because there is an expectation of privacy. HORRIBLE. I called the front desk at 8:09 am about what happened and it made the experience worse. She gave me attitude and said “well they do that because they don’t know if the people checked out”. I said that we weren’t dressed and the people next door yelled at housekeeping. She still gave me attitude as if it was okay. WOW! They will do that to someone who is going to take it to another level and cause legal issues for this hotel. I guess they don’t know that hotel employees can’t just open the door of a hotel room because people might be indisposed at the time. There isn’t a record of who had checked out from the front desk? I’ll never stay here or recommend this place to anyone.

Overall it was a good experience. A little hard for me to find using Google maps. However, I found it on the other side of the block rather quickly. They were great for accommodating my late check in. the bed was super comfortable and the room was nice and clean. I would stay again.

The room, the location and Obie, the concierge, made this trip complete!! Early check in was so helpful as was the early shot of coffee every morning. All of our questions and requests were taken care of by Obie. Great city with the hotel being in the center of everything. Would come back and stay again.

The hotel is very clean and tidy. The biggest feature of the room is the floor-to-ceiling windows. The scenery outside the window is very clear. Although there is no bustling Michigan Avenue, it is still good! There is a bar on the 18th floor of the hotel, not big. The hotel has a restaurant on the left side of the hotel entrance, named Somerset, in the room can also book this restaurant in the room dinning, about twenty or thirty minutes to deliver the meal to the room. I really like the bathroom's minimalist wash suit, which is white tea, especially fragrant and comfortable. Shopping, dining and entertainment are nearby. Not far from there are Chinese restaurants, such as Imperial Lamian, Old Sichuan, MingHin Cuisine, Shanghai Terrance, which are just a few minutes from Uber. Royal chef and old Sichuan are very popular! It is also 10 minutes from the hotel to the famous scenic spot Michigan Avenue, which is also close to Navy Pier and Millennium Park. The fly in the ointment is that the sound insulation in the hotel is not good, the guests from the opposite side of the room can hear the opening of the door, but the overall is good!

Ambassador Chicago, Part of Jdv by Hyatt

The Ambassador Hotel, where scenes from the 1959 classic movie ”North by Northwest” were filmed, is glorious. The iconic lobby has been completely refurbished since North by Northwest, and it's gorgeous. The bar off the lobby is chic and very pleasant. The staff at the hotel could not be nicer. I stayed at the Ambassador in April and May 2021 during a family emergency. The staff was extraordinarily kind to me, which meant a lot when I was under stress. I came back in June 2022 under happier circumstances. Staff members like Wayne, Kenzie and Francisco either remembered me or were very diplomatic about pretending to remember me! Anyway, they and the rest of the staff--including the excellent housekeeping/cleaning staff-- again made me feel right at home at the Ambassador. It was great to be back.
