This is the most satisfying hotel I've stayed at in Datong. The hotel environment is excellent. As soon as I entered the room, there was a subtle, pleasant fragrance. The room was spacious and comfortable, and all the facilities were new without that 'new furniture' smell. It was exceptionally clean, and the bedding wasn't damp. I have to praise the mattress and the bathroom floor tiles. The mattress was incredibly comfortable for sleeping, and the pillows were memory foam, which was fantastic! I absolutely loved the bathroom floor tiles, they're so beautiful. Having a fridge in the room was also very convenient. The front desk staff provided excellent service too. There's a Wanda Plaza nearby, and many restaurants right outside, making it very convenient for getting around. Next time I come to Datong, I will definitely book this hotel again. It's simply perfect!

This hotel, due to its location, beautifully complements and reflects the Huayan Temple. Each room seems to be imbued with prajna wisdom, offering a rare sense of peace and tranquility amidst the bustling娑婆 world. Walking into the hotel feels like coming home. The staff, like family, greet you with warm smiles and thoughtful care, easing the fatigue and anxiety from your travels. Returning to your room is like returning to your true self; it's inherently complete, and there's no need to search for anything more outside.

A truly delightful stay! This guesthouse is nestled deep within a Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital complex inside Datong's Ancient City, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling area. From the spiral staircase in the courtyard, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the old city's rooftops. The room decor was stylish, the bedding exceptionally comfortable, and they even provided traditional herbal pillows, ensuring a very restful sleep. For breakfast, we had authentic knife-cut noodles with a wonderfully fragrant and spicy chili oil – absolutely delicious!

Seriously, this is how a five-star hotel should be! The bed was so soft I didn't want to leave, and the service was so thoughtful it really touched me. The soundproofing was absolutely top-notch, I slept until noon undisturbed. Breakfast was incredibly filling, and the value for money was outstanding. This is hands down the most comfortable hotel I've ever stayed in while traveling; from check-in to check-out, the entire experience was delightful. I've already recommended it to all my friends.

The best decision I made on this trip to Datong was choosing the Hidden Alley Homestay! It's located in an alley next to Kuixing Tower, offering a tranquil escape from the bustling city. You can walk to Daiwang Mansion and the Nine Dragon Screen in just 10 minutes, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the ancient city. The room was surprisingly spacious and clean, and the quality of the bedding was truly impressive. They even have a dedicated audio-visual room for movie nights, which made for a very enjoyable evening. The hot water in the bathroom was excellent, and the room itself was full of thoughtful details. The front desk staff was also incredibly warm and professional. They called me in advance to ask about my itinerary and shared some very practical travel tips. The local food and drinks they recommended were delicious too. Plus, there's a free parking lot, which is great for those traveling by car. That's why I extended my stay for another day! Next time I visit Datong with my parents, I'll definitely choose this place again. I've already recommended it to friends who are planning a trip to Datong – it's truly a hidden gem!

Datong was really for me - getting in first night, start next morning Yungang Grottoes (Northern Wei) and afternoon in the town center for the Liao/ Jin dynasties temples. Sonique Homestay is located on the northeast end of the historical district and a mere 5 minutes by didi to the Huayan Temple super touristy district for dinner. Its location offer a much quieter repose from the noisy and chaotic commercial centre. I booked thru Trip.com and I initially use their translation service to get their manager to help me book a driver to Wutai. Super friendly but we eventually switched over to Chinese in WeChat. But I am sure the trip.com translation would be useful and she will be able to help. I asked for more eggs (more proteins) first breakfast but they have cooked only a certain amount based on number of guest. The next morning, I got three eggs without asking. Good service! Just ask beforehand if you need high protein breakfast. Northern Chinese breakfast tends to be carbs heavy.

What a truly delightful surprise this guesthouse was! It perfectly blends the professional service of a star-rated hotel with the warm, personal hospitality of a boutique guesthouse. From the complimentary pickup at Datong South Station to the staff proactively helping with luggage throughout, every thoughtful detail made us feel incredibly comfortable from the moment we arrived. Upon check-in, I was greeted with a fresh welcome fruit plate and hot tea. The room's amenities were exceptionally well-curated: daily replenished room-temperature mineral water, quality tea, spotless cups, and a kettle. The mini-fridge was thoughtfully stocked with pure sea buckthorn juice, three different sodas, and chilled mineral water. The quality of the toiletries, shower products, and bedding far surpassed what you'd find in typical guesthouses, especially the incredibly comfortable bed. Being able to completely unwind after a full day of sightseeing and walking was absolutely crucial! By the bedside, there were even picture books about the Yungang Grottoes and readings about Datong's history, which was such a thoughtful touch! Even more commendable was the warmth of the service: the staff were constantly attentive to guest needs and responded exceptionally promptly. The complimentary laundry service was a huge bonus – not only did they have a brand-new washer-dryer combo, but clothes sent in the morning were returned neatly folded in clean bags by the evening. They even brought iced mung bean porridge to help cool down; this level of meticulous care truly made me feel as comfortable as if I were staying at a friend's home. The overall decor is elegant and tasteful, making for a comfortable and reassuring stay. I genuinely cannot recommend it highly enough! Next time I visit Datong, I will definitely choose Shanhaiju again!

A very cozy and comfortable B&B, located right in the ancient town's pedestrian street, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling area. The courtyard is spacious, the rooms are clean, and all amenities are of high quality. Breakfast is plentiful, and the staff are friendly. The location is excellent, with all of the ancient town's attractions within walking distance, which is great when traveling with kids as it saves a lot of hassle. Plus, many popular restaurants often have long queues, but because this place is so close, you can easily grab takeout and enjoy your meal back at the hotel, saving a lot of waiting time. I'll definitely stay here again next time I visit Datong.

This B&B is a detached house with a small courtyard, located within a villa complex inside the city walls. It's very conveniently situated, right across the road from Shanhua Temple. We entered through the complex's garage and easily found the two private parking spaces, which were free, following the owner's photo instructions. The villa's entrance on the second basement level is right opposite the parking spots, and it even has a private elevator. Our room on the second floor was quite spacious, overlooking the small courtyard, and featured a 100-inch projector. The soundproofing was excellent, and the bathroom had a separate toilet, shower, and sink area, with a very large shower. There's no one at the front desk at night, so you just help yourself to mineral water and toiletries if you need them; the owner is very generous. Breakfast isn't provided, but if you turn left when you leave, there are three knife-cut noodle restaurants. The Chen's Wei Dao one is particularly good, though it only opens at 9:30 AM.

I was drawn to the style of this guesthouse when browsing online, and after reading the reviews, I immediately booked it. The customer service called me right away to ask about my arrival time and the number of guests, and if I needed airport/station pick-up. The pick-up driver, an older gentleman, was punctual and waiting at the exit with a prominent sign. As a solo traveler arriving in an unfamiliar city, having someone pick me up instantly made me feel closer to the place. Stepping into the guesthouse, I was captivated by the thoughtful design. The decor and placement of greenery all reflected the owner's meticulous care. The room was incredibly cozy, and the welcome fruit and bedtime drink made me feel as if I were a guest at a friend's house, receiving such considerate hospitality. I absolutely, absolutely, absolutely love this guesthouse; I slept so comfortably. The breakfast was also exceptionally delicious, especially the noodles, which I felt were even better than those in the restaurants within the ancient town. It's very convenient to get to the ancient town, yet the guesthouse is nestled in a quiet spot. Parking is easy, electric scooters are available for rent, and there's a lovely courtyard, which is very pleasant. I totally love this guesthouse; you definitely won't regret staying here.
