Kimpton - Charlotte Square, an IHG Hotel

New Town Edinburgh|0.32km from The Call 1914
The hotel is fab the staff are great and cannot do more for you , lovely touches provided by guest relations concierge & reception staff are so lovely , catering & bar staff great , the room was lovely , great shower and local produce in rooms such as the coffee etc , social hour is a nice touch and breakfast was great , i would stay here again we had a lovely stay ... however the spa lets it down This was a special birthday suprise for my other half i booked the spa for treatments for us . We were late on arrival due to rail strikes and i missed my spa appointment which is fine i expect that if you are not on time. My partner was still able to recieve his treatment however we were provided with no towels robes or slippers , no info regarding lockers . The massuise gave my partner a robe and was suprised one was not already provided for him after he had to walk around after getting changed into swimwear .The water machine in the ladies changing room did not work the only water available was from a tap in the toilet not ideal as the next water machine was in the lobby opposite the gym , especially not ideal if u have no robe or slippers or towel to go out to it . So if you are are a lady there is no drinking water available , very undignified !! I was not shown to the relaxation room and couldnt go in even if i wanted to as i had no towel or robe . My partner told me the mens changing room stank of urine from a pipe . The staff were not very helpfull or attentive and the service at the spa does not reflect the service or same level of standard as the rest of the hotel . I have had better service at a local lesuire centre and would not use this ”spa” again . My partner and I often use spas and this was by far the worst spa expeirience dissapointing as it was his birthday. I could maybe understand if it was busy but it wasnt .

Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian

West End Edinburgh|0.42km from The Call 1914
Our assessment of our 3 night stay at the Waldorf was mixed. The hotel was very nice and as a Diamond member we were upgraded to a castle view room. The complimentary breakfast was very good and the front desk staff were generally helpful. We did have a problem one night with the light fixture leaking water from the ceiling. This may have been due to a rainstorm one night and staff brought a bucket to catch the leaking water. The biggest problem, however, occurred after checkout. At the time of checkout I was told that the hotel printer wasn’t working so they would email me my receipt. Since all 3 nights were paid for with HH points I asked if there was a zero balance and was told yes. Later that day I received the final bill and was charged over $1,000 on my credit card for all three nights. I immediately called the hotel and was told by in house reservations staff that my reservation had been cancelled when I didn’t show up. I reminded them that we had been staying with them the last 3 nights and had no problem at checkin on the scheduled day. In fact I confirmed our arrival time several hours before checkin. So they didn’t know what the problem was but would talk to the reservations manager when they were free. In the meantime I called the Hilton diamond desk and again was told that someone had cancelled my stay with points and it had been rebooked by someone as a cash stay and they were not sure what the problem was. My points had even been put back onto my account by someone. By now I am a bit irritated. I finally receive a call back from the hotel reservation manager who tells me that the Waldorf had a computer glitch on our arrival date and that all hotel reservations had been cancelled and had to be manually reentered by hotel staff. However, Hilton hotels have no way to make reservations using points so they made them as a cash payment. Thereby the $1,000 bill. Now glitches are bound to occur sometimes. However, all of this angst could have been avoided by telling me at checkin about the problem and I could have immediately rebooked the room using points while standing at the front desk. The hotel did ultimately reverse the charges and apologize. However. this shouldn’t happen at a property like the Waldorf.

InterContinental Hotels - Edinburgh the George, an IHG Hotel

New Town Edinburgh|0.43km from The Call 1914
This was our second time at this hotel and we stayed for almost a week. You can't beat the location on George Street, right downtown, close to shops and restaurants. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms and bathrooms are very nice. The king bed had a good mattress and pillows. There is a safe. They seem to have made upgrades since our last pre-covid stay, including air-conditioning in (all?) rooms. As you would expect in a big city, the rooms are quite small and the hotel is not exactly quiet; also depending on where your room faces. We were right by the elevator, which I generally don't like. I wonder if it's because we booked through our credit card and not direct. It seems there is sometimes a ”penalty'. The rooms are supplied daily with water, delicious cookies and snacks. You can make individual cups of drip coffee in a filter, which is much better than instant coffee but not as good as a Nespresso, IMHO. We had breakfast included and the Printing Press is just wonderful, for breakfast, any meal and later evening cocktails and whiskey. The Burr & Co is a coffee shop, also right next door, with tables outside. Love that place. The hotel has great service. We lost a suitcase and got daily support in checking on the status and changing the address on the delivery. There seemed to be a shortage on hair conditioner and we didn't have a sign for do-not-disturb the first day and got woken at 8 AM, but that didn't spoil our enjoyment of the hotel stay. We expect to be back.

I booked 6 hotels in the UK this time. This one is the one I am most satisfied with. The location is excellent, just on Princes Street, and it is easy to find. The breakfast provided by the hotel is an authentic English breakfast, which is very rich and tastes good ,recommend.

I booked this hotel to go to the tattoo I knew it was a no frills budget hotel but was not expecting how small the rooms were probably ok if travelling alone or maybe a one night stay, we stayed 3 night and were glad to leave the hotel, we were told that all rooms in this hotel are approximately 8x8 square basically a box room with a bed and a toilet and shower cubicle and nothing else no chairs no where to put things there is a tv in the room. But we did not use this the up side though is the location which is fantastic and close to everything, the staff know the problems and were exceptional in helping and understanding our needs, I can not fault their efforts and the rooms even thought a little ruff around the edges were very clean We did have a few issues with maintenance of our room the bathroom (if you can call it that) handle kept falling off and there was a piece of tape holding the skirting on Even as a budget hotel there should be certain standards followed
Destiny Scotland - Chisholm Hunter Suites

Self-catering apartment. No breakfast. Lots of eating and drinking nearby. The reserved room has a sofa bed that can be called an extra bed. Others don’t know. Family apartments are of course suitable for children. No one cares how many children you take, as long as you feel able to sleep. Password lock self check-in . The location of the apartment is very good, on the Prince’s Road, facing the castle overlooking the Prince’s Garden. There is no free parking nearby, and there is a taxi waiting area on the side of the road.

We stayed in this apartment the night before my daughter's wedding, it was ideal, lovely, bright and spacious for photos inside and perfect photo opportunity in the morning with views of the castle on doorstep, staff amazingly friendly and helpful, would definitely recommend.

Airlink was just a two-minute walk from Princes Street, but the road in front of the door was not particularly friendly to the wheels of the luggage. The hostel itself is great, all the staff are very friendly, and the accommodation and bathroom are very clean and tidy. Don't worry if you arrive before checkin, you can temporarily store your luggage. The location of the hostel is also great and it is very convenient to go everywhere. If you need it next time, you will definitely choose here
Frederick House Hotel

The hotel was in a great and safe location even at night, Overall clean and good value, for a hotel in new town, rooms cozy and quiet with addition of bathtub, staff friendly, the décor is a bit dated and the bed took some getting used to, to get comfortable, book at careful times though as some days its great value others its gouging, nonetheless would probably come back as its cheap for Edinburgh and has everything on your doorstep

Hotels in Edinburgh

Weather and the best time to travel to Edinburgh:

Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland. It is the second-most populous city of Scotland and is among the 20 most populated cities of the United Kingdom. The city has an overall population of about a million as of 2018, and the total area of the capital city is about 102 miles squared. Edinburgh is the hub of Scotland culturally, diplomatically, educationally, and financially. The city includes its former villages and towns from the 19th century after expanding and retains its true old character in many aspects. The New Town and Old Town areas of Edinburgh are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The climate of Edinburgh is very similar to the rest of the country. The region experiences a maritime, temperate climate that is mild in comparison to other places (like Moscow) which lie on the same latitudinal level. This temperate nature is due to the moderating effect due to Edinburgh’s proximity to the sea. The city is situated in between coast and hills and is often referred to as “the windy city”. Winter temperatures of Edinburgh cannot be called freezing, but yes winters can get a bit cold there. Talking about summers, the days are not very hot or scorching, rather they are mildly warm.

Airport / nearby airport:

Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is one of the busiest Scottish airports. The airport has got one passenger terminal and operates on one runway. It is located in the city’s Ingliston area some 8 miles away from the city centre. The road distance from the airport to the city can be covered in about 20 minutes. There are many options for getting to Edinburgh from Edinburgh Airport. One can make this journey via taxis, buses, trains, or trams. The Airlink (Lothian 100) bus or the Skylink (Lothian 200, 300, 400) are some buses that run to and from the city. The journey by these buses takes about 35 minutes and costs about 4 £. Apart from this, the city folk very often prefer to cycle to their destination. There are dedicated cycle paths in the city. The main bus operators of Edinburgh and the regions around it are First Edinburgh Buses and Lothian Buses. For a day, unlimited travel costs 4 £ and that rate is the cap of what these buses can charge in a day. One can also use taxis to commute in the city. The black taxis in Edinburgh are a sort of popular phenomenon. They can be hailed on streets, hired physically from stands, or booked on phones too. Apart from these black taxis, there are also private cabs that can be hired to move in and around Edinburgh city comfortably.

How to get to the destination:

Edinburgh Airport is one of the busiest airports in the country. It is easy to get a flight to Edinburgh from almost any part of the world. However, as logic dictates, most long-duration flights from across the world to Edinburgh, will not be direct flights. They will have one or two transit stops in between. Airlines like KLM Royal Dutch, Turkish Airlines, British Airways, Finn Air, Air France, Lufthansa, Delta Air, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and Norwegian are some of the major international carriers that fly from the rest of the world to Edinburgh. Within Europe, most flights to Edinburgh are cheap and short distance. A particular tactic that can be employed in order to squeeze in a good travel deal is to use a combination of techniques.
