We ate at the restaurant. The staff were excellent, the food was great. When the bill came there was no card payment available. I was forced to go and find an ATM, accept the overseas withdrawal and ATM fee. when I returned to the restaurant and asked to see the manager he was initially not available and then turned up with his mother. She insisted that any discussion be taken outside, he insisted that it was not his fault and blamed the technology and satellites. There was no offer to cover the extra fees. He then told me to not pay, leave the restaurant and never return. I paid cash in full, including a tip, as the staff were impeccable. The management however are appalling, condescending and rude. My Advice, there are a lot of better more reasonable priced restaurants with in Garmisch; do not eat here the manager/owner is arrogant and rude, so is his mother.

A welcome respite after a very long hike on Zugspitze. Friendly staff and I was also offered an upgrade to a balcony room. The garden restaurant was great as was the menu. A proper old world hotel with great service. Breakfast had many choices for most needs.

We arrived for a 3 night stay. The receptionist was rude to us on arrival because we were 30 mins early. I said when I arrived that I know we are a bit early and understand if not possible yet but was not greeted the same way. Anyway, she did let us check in and we went to our room. This was a disappointment, chipped tiles in the bathroom, paint stain on the bath, the walls had been polyfilled and not re tilled. The radiator was very old and dirty. The shower was next to a beam making it hard to shower without banging your head on the beam. The safe was very old and didn't feel it would keep our belongings safe. There was a kitchen area in our room, not what was mentioned in any of the room details but locked. The booking should have included wine but none provided and due to the rudeness of the staff we did not want to ask. The children found a half drunk bottle of water under their sofa bed. They also found toenails and hair in their bed. The room was exceptionally hot with no fan to help cool it down. We had to open the door to the balcony at night to keep the temp lower but then could not sleep due to noise, all the way through the night because our room over looked the street. The corridor in the hotel looked like an old university hall corridor. When we mentioned that the room was hot and noisy, we were informed you are in a city what do you expect! We have stayed in plenty of hotels on cities and never experienced that level of noise before. To top it off, at checkout was very surprised to find an additional charge of room tax which was not in the original booking, nor mentioned anywhere in the booking details. Every other hotel, this was included in the booking details. Only reason 1 and not a 0 is because the breakfast staff were friendly and helpful. This was the most expensive hotel we stayed in and the worst room, staff of any. My children wondered if we had been given staff quarters because of the room. My advice would be to avoid and book a different hotel to avoid disappointment

Everything about this hotel is perfect; the building, the rooms, the location and the staff all deserve the full 5 stars. Nothing is too much trouble, the food is wonderful and the beer is as good as you’ll get in any mainstream brewery. The rooms are spotlessly clean and designed with comfort and purpose. Special mention for Martha who made every meal a joy, like a best friend you’ve just met. And you have to say hello to Ernest, the most handsome boy in town.

My daughter and her travel partner stayed here last week and just loved it. The restaurant, which is award-winning, is out of this world wonderful! Yes, she would definitely stay again. Pricey, but worth it.

This hotel is a great old world hotel. The rooms are spacious and the balcony with a view of the Alps is beautiful. The staff is outstanding. They truly went out of their way to help us with a issue we had (having nothing to do with the hotel). Since we do not speak German I’m not sure we would have been able to resolve it on our own.

Stayed 1 night last week and highly recommend this property. It's in walking distance to everything in GP and the rooms are quaint, with updated bathrooms and stunning views of the Alps. Bonus microbrewery offers delicious beers after a day of touring or skiing. Abundant breakfast included in the room price, too. Staff was very accommodating and offered to store our luggage after we checked out so we could spend the morning on Zugspitze.

Overall we had a good stay at the Hotel Garmischer Hof. The restaurant was excellent for both breakfast and dinner and had a good number of tasty vegetarian and vegan options which was important for us. They also serve lovely home brewed beers. Staff in the restaurant were friendly and attentive. The restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday. Our family room was large and suited 4 of us without a problem. Warm. Beds were comfy. Clean. Plenty of hot water. What we missed was a kettle and tea and coffee in the room. Ski boot room was good with heaters. Good location if you are taking the train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, as we did. A few mins from the station and right in the centre of town so you can walk to all the shops and restaurants. The hotel lacks a lounge or sitting area and therefore also lacks a bit of ambience or a sense of social space. I am not sure if this is due to Covid. After skiing, people like to sit with a drink or maybe a tea/coffee and relax somewhere. Other that the restaurant there is a small bar that opens at 5pm but this is run externally to the hotel and the arrangement between the two is not clear - I didn’t get much sense that the owner of the bar was that interested in hotel guests. Business must be good because I was told in no uncertain terms that I was not allowed to play cards at 5pm with my daughter after ordering a drink. Seems a tad draconian and we voted with our feet and went elsewhere. Don’t think the bar owner gave a fig. Overall we had a good stay but if coming back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen I would most likely give another hotel a try.

I spent one week in this hotel at the beginning of October. + great location + service at breakfast and breakfast itself + house keeping staff + big room and great view - room outdated and dark, all the lamps didn't work, not even after somebody came to check them - hotel bar was closed two days in a row and they didn't make Irish Coffee even though the hotel usually have lots of international guests - the staff at the reseption was, not rude, but very impassive, so I difn't feel like asking them anything or do any small talk like I m used to do in the Alps
