This is a historic building that dates back to 1548 and has gone through 11 owners. Today it is a spa hotel The hotel sits on a large piece of land, with herds of cattle and sheep in front of the door. The restaurant on the other side has a great view of the lake and a large meadow. Rabbits and squirrels often jump around in the meadow and forest. You can reach the lake through a path, or you can hike in the forest. From the elevator, you can feel that the hotel has a sense of age. The spa has a constant-temperature swimming pool, a cold pool, a hot pool, and an outdoor hot pool, facing a large area of grass and woods, which is really pleasant. The only thing to note is: if you check out at 11 o'clock, you must go to the spa before checking out. After 11 o'clock, there will be an additional charge of 20 pounds per person.

We had the most amazing time here, the service couldn't have been any better. Special mention to Richard and Mark who couldn't have done any more. Our wedding anniversary was very very special and we will definitely be back for more! The spa was brilliant and the food was outstanding, thanks again guys for a marvellous stay! I would definitely recommend booking an estate suite, the attention to detail is fabulous.

What a beautiful venue for every occasion, from a cup of tea and a sandwich to a wedding, and everything inbetween. Today it was afternoon tea for Father's Day - what a spectacular treat. Delicious with plenty of hot tea in changeable weather. Venue truly splendid and staff extremely welcoming. We'll be back to try the roast, the spa and the brasserie! Many thanks, Adam

Arrived really late but Nathan welcomed us with open harms. We felt at immediately at home Great breakfasts overlooking the lake. Staff really friendly and charming. We did a few walk around the beautiful woods which was great and beautiful. We ended up playing Pool in the original games room, I could have spent days in there looking at the amazing pictures - some of them very funny! The resident cat is the king of the castle! Loved every minute of it and returned home relaxed and refreshed! Thank you all.

We have just had a family wedding at this wonderful hotel. Everything was perfect (including the weather). Lynsey (the Wedding Planner) was incredible and all the staff went out of their way to make it a special day. It was extra special to be able to have the Ceremony outside in the Gazebo. The food was amazing - specifically commented on by every guest. The venue is superb - a fantastic view and lots of space both inside and out. All the wedding guests, that stayed at the hotel, made full use of the Spa and enjoyed the relaxed environment. We used their recommendations for cake (Cutiepie Cupcake),photographer (Beth Faulder), dresser (Rheda Retreat) and make up (Brides by Kennedy) with enormous success. We just had the most amazing day - thank you

I was treated to the "Escape Spa" package for my birthday which included a one night stay. Reception staff were great on check on and even walked us to our "deluxe" room on the first floor. The room was very spacious with a king size bed and a nice view, only fault was both televisions did not work but that was OK as we weren't in the room alot. The robes provided for the spa were just awful, they had been washed so much they we rock hard and my husbands had obviously shrunk as it looked like it would fit a child! The spa was lovely and we both had a treatment which we enjoyed, only downside was we couldn't get a bed around the pool area as there's not many amd they were all taken. We were going to have a go in the hot tub but as there were 11 people already in it, it would of just been a squash and embarrassing really. We booked the brasserie for tea and I would unfortunately not recommend the £30 steak, ours was just full of fat and the peppercorn sauce was not peppercorn but a cheap make of some kind. Beds were comfy enough amd breakfast was nice and quiet although the staff were just walking around on there phones for most of it. All in all, I don't think I would return and really don't feel it was value for money.

I honestly don't know where to start, there are so many factors about our day that just made it more than we could've ever hoped for. We first met Lynsey, the wedding co-ordinator, around 6 months before our planned wedding date. She put our minds at ease immediately saying we could easily achieve what we wanted within our budget and time frame. Nothing was too much trouble, and when it came to the actual day, we knew we didn't have to worry at all because she had everything planned meticulously. We honestly cannot thank her or recommend her enough! As for the venue, we couldn't have hoped for anything more perfect. We checked into our room and were immediately greeted with stunning views over Bassenthwaite and the gorgeous hotel grounds. The ceremony room and function room were both perfect - who wouldn't want to say 'I do' with views like that in the background! Thank you so much Armathwaite Hall, for delivering our perfect wedding day!

A grumpy welcome at reception followed by an even grumpier barman in the (admittedly stunning) cocktail bar. Our room -154- was really tired - tatty furniture and bizarrely only hot water in the bathroom. Food in lakeside restaurant good and staff attentive, breakfast is ok. Spa is great.

Traveling from the US,my husband and I spent a month in the Lake District soaking up the Spring beauty, replenishing our soul, and reconnecting with family and friends. My sister and her husband joined us for 5 days from Dallas TX. She had one request, a proper British High Tea. Before their arrival we researched many venues. So happy we decided upon Armathwaite. The setting is stunning, the tea itself was both beautiful and delicious. There was more food than we could possibly manage and the service was impeccable. Richard was helpful in the booking process as well as attentive to detail the day we arrived. We could not have been happier with our choice. Thank you
