Over the years we have stayed at several private game reserves and we rate the Nambiti plains lodge as one of the best. As soon as we had parked our car we were met by our friendly guide, Jason, who drove us to the lodge itself. There, we were greeted by the manager, Magdal and her assistant, Betty, who gave us a warm towel and a welcome drink. This characterised the whole experience as very personal and individual. We really felt like private guests where nothing was too much trouble. Our lodge room was a beautiful thatched house with its own small water hole, an outside area for sitting, a freestanding bath, two wash basins and a shower together with a large 4 poster double bed brilliantly equipped with mosquito Nets. There was also good Wi-Fi. Our room was a short walk from the main lodge where there was a dining area, a small shop, a lounge area, an open terrace where we ate breakfast and lunch and a lovely swimming pool in front of the water hole. On one afternoon we saw an elephant come to the water all to have a drink! All the meals were outstanding! The real treasure of staying at Nambiti were the game drives with our expert guide, Jason. Generally, there were six to eight of us in the vehicle and we always stopped for a drink as the game drive came to an end. We saw all sorts of wildlife close up including a lion and lioness (and later four lion cubs) two herds of elephants, 2 white rhino, three hippo in a lake, wildebeest, buffalo, zebra, Kudu, eland, and lots of antelope. The morning game drive started at 5:30 AM and generally saw us returning to the lodge at about 8:00 AM. The evening game drive started at 4:30 PM and typically ended at about 7:30 PM. The game drives were relaxed, fun and our guide Jason could not have been more knowledgeable and helpful in explaining things. All in all, this was a superb 3 day safari experience and one that I would recommend to anybody. Interestingly, one couple who joined us on the game drive had returned after several years absence and we're staying for five nights.
