You shouldn’t book here Because I couldn’t stay here. When I text for here, I couldn’t receive the message.

Casa Pinto is a small (5 or 6 rooms) hotel offering one room with "a Dormer window and no view". That was all that was available on April 13th, so my wife and I stayed there. A Dormer window is actually an attic window, and there is a hole in the ceiling so light from that window can get into the room. But the building is ancient, and the Dormer window is more like a porthole window on a ship. Point being: The room is dark. There are a couple of overhead lights, no indirect lighting. At night, it is pitch-black and, IMO, dangerous to navigate unless you turn on an overhead light - waking your partner. Breakfast is in a small basement room - not on a rooftop terrace. The rooftop terrace does indeed have a nice view, but the climb up the almost vertical stairs is treacherous. Your wi-fi will not work in the basement. On April 13th, the hotel had one employee - a young woman who spoke not a word of English. She handled the front desk, fixed the broken toilet seat in our room, cooked breakfast, washed dishes. I had to use a cell-phone translator app to communicate with her. Bottom line: Casa Pinto is a "pass" -- especially if they only offer that little Dormer-window room. No wheelchair access, narrow, steep stairs. One more thing: My wife and I traveled to Monsaraz with elderly Portuguese friends who stayed at another hotel. The day we checked out, they came to the lobby to help with translation since the clerk did not speak English. We wanted to fill out a government-required complaint form, at which point the property owner called and, on the phone, was yelling and hostile. A most unusual and totally inappropriate customer experience.

Beautiful location. We knew we were staying in a castle that's been retrofitted so we didn't have high expectations for the modern amenities but were pleasantly surprised. The room was quiet, comfortable and the AC worked perfectly. Amazing view out of the window in our Goa suite, and delicious food just around the corner. Would definitely return

Most beautiful medieval boutique hotel I had been. Only 5 rooms but all with dif theme decor. Us was like Moroccan style and we love it from the washroom the Moroccan sink bed smell of sheets and the breakfast was a plus .Sandra was a great host!! Will recommended to any one that travels to Monsaraz and walking distance to delicious restaurant with breathtaking views. The rooftop was a plus to watch sunset with a bottle of wine!! Thanks Sandra for all your help.

We stayed one night in mid June - the hotel was fantastic. The owner / staff prefer Portuguese or to use google translate and were very helpful when asked but not overtly present - our room faced the church and had good light there were rooms facing the rear on the same floor but likely looked at adiacent roofs + there is a roof terrace that faces the rear and overlooks the countryside below. Breakfast was good (in the floor below the lobby) - the decor / interior design was great, the AC worked well - our bath had a big stone shower- it was very quiet with a few restaurants nearby but our jet lag caused us to sleep through dinner after a late lunch down the street. - hint you can drive into the town to load and unload in front of the hotel / by the church then park at what I would call the base outside the walls - there is the main entrance and an exit to the east close to the hotel (right of the church and other building)- after unloading parking for the day/night you can walk up either street. The entry on the first floor is kind of like a living room, have the phone number handy to call if the door is locked when you go to check in. Confirm your estimated arrival time in your booking.

The hotel was not open when we arrived and after an hour and two phone calls a girl let us in to a reception area that was a bike store with cleaning supplies. It was obviously not ready for guests. When we said that we would not stay they still charged us for cancellation. By then it was late afternoon and we had a very long drive to reach our destination.

When we arrived there was a note on the door to call for check in. We waited 25 minutes outside in the blazing sun. Owner was not friendly or helpful. We booked the suite which was spacious but no extra amenities. On a Monday there are no restaurants open in this little village and there are no markets. Yet, the B&B doesn’t provide a small fridge or even a place to make a hot cup of tea. The room was damp feeling and musty. It just needs a good airing out and a dehumidifier. The clothes in my suitcase were damp after leaving. The rooftop patio is beautiful, just beware of the steep stairs. The bed was comfy. The bathroom in the suite has a step down bathroom. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. And the woman who served breakfast and cleaned the rooms was very friendly and helpful.
