Hotels near Museum of Island History in Newport

Stayed here with the family last weekend and would highly recommend this hotel. The room was clean and, even though the rules have changed, housekeeping were very efficient. Breakfast was as you would expect but with more care and attention than I have seen at any other Travelodge. Hot food was replenished almost instantly and everything was clean and tidy. Special mention must go to Doreen who provided hands down the best customer service I have ever received in any hotel. My son is coeliac and Doreen took the time on our first evening to go through each menu item and double check what was suitable for him. She was friendly and engaging, always with a smile on her face. During breakfast she made a point of greeting each guest and seemed to know who was happy for a chat and who was happy with just a cheery 'good morning'.

The evening staff where nowhere to be seen on the evening we checked in. They had a sign at reception saying they were in the bar and a sign in the bar saying they were at reception. Took over 20 minutes to find a member of staff to be able to check in and they weren’t even apologetic once they turned up. The next evening we went for a drink in the bar, while the rugby finals were on. There were many people trying to get a drink, however again the bar/reception staff were not around. Ended up giving up waiting without being served and going back to our room instead. Very disappointed with the service. The room and location had everything you needed, however and we had no complaints in this regard.

Dean welcomed us even though our reservation had been erroneously made for a different date on Booking. He upgraded us to a larger room. Room one is located on the street side and though voices could be heard from the sidewalk and dining room below it did not affect our sleep. Dean explained the carpark payment (pay for time extending past 6 p.m. and it will be free for the night until 8 a.m.). We did have reservations for dinner on the correct date and had a superb dinner here. The beef brisket was tender and tasty, the plate fish too. The wine was excellent as was the dessert. My husband said the only complaint he had was he had nothing to complain about! Breakfast was cheerfully served by Honey. Great start to the day. Definitely would come back to Hewitt's if we come back to the Isle of Wight.

A last-minute getaway for my birthday and it didn't disappoint. A friendly and helpful welcome from Laina and Dennis awaits you. The rooms are immaculate, the bed is comfy, and we were lucky enough to have a bay room that looks right out over, well, the bay. The breakfast is excellent, tasty, well cooked, a good variety (including fried bread!!), and it really sets you up for a day of exploring. Our only downside is that we only got to stay two nights and wish it could be longer. We will certainly be returning and look forward to staying for longer next time. Arrived Thursday evening went to the bar and booked in. There is no Inn parking and the best I found was on West Cowes promenade which is only a minute from the Inn. Tip - while you have to pay a surcharge to use the PaybyPhone app, if you buy parking on it before 6pm and it expires after 6pm, you AUTOMATICALLY get overnight parking until 10am added on. Nice! The barmaid wasn’t busy and happily took us up to our room and answered questions we had. We asked if they were serving food and yes they were however we didn’t end up eating there during our stay. The room was really nice and quiet. Most rooms have a second door off the landing further ensuring noise is at a minimum (was in room 1). Clean and well decorated with the odd signs of use you would expect. The bed was enormous and took up most of the room, but was comfortable to sleep on with clean linen, double pillows and additional al cushions. The draws and other furniture were ‘vintage’ but worked well and did what it was supposed to. The bathroom was clean with plenty of hot water. In the room was a small fridge with milk in, juices and bottled water. Tea and coffee were available along with a small kettle and some chocolate wafers. There were all topped up daily, free of charge. Large tv on the wall. We did have problems with the TV but managed to sort it by turning it off at the plug (above and behind the TV) for a few minutes. WiFi was available however we were not able to get it in our too. But was available on the landing and in the bar itself so no big deal. The room was serviced to a high standard every day by the due sly housekeeper. I don’t know why people complained about breakfast on here, yes it’s all laid out on the landing table, but there were at least 5 types of cereal, fresh bread, crumpets, and poptarts (if they’re your thing) for toasting, various breakfast bars, jam, fruit etc. more than enough for a filling breakfast and you can help yourself to as much or as little as you’d like. There was also a tassimo machine with a range of coffees, just may have to fill it up at times. No big deal. For the price of the room and a continental breakfast I was more than happy to stay and would return again if staying on the IoW.

Came out with friends for food and drink and was an amazing experience! Really lovely staff and great customer service. Drinks and food were presented to a high standard. The manager made a good impression, will definitely be going back.
