The James Rotterdam

The James Rotterdam

Rotterdam|0.44km from city centre
We stayed at The James for 5 nights in the middle of July. It's a nice hotel - centrally located that' s walking distance to the train station, restaurants and attractions. The room we stayed in was a good size and nicely appointed. As part of the package we had use of 2 bikes for a full day. We took the bikes out on July 19 for a ride around Kinderdijk, which was about 20km away by waterbus. One of the bikes felt sluggish from the start but we attributed the problem to underinflated tires. Unfortunately, that wasn't the issue. It was making a loud pinging noise when it was put in reverse as in backing out of a bike rack on the ferry. The pedals were freewheeling as soon as we started riding when we came off the ferry. I emailed the hotel about the issue immediately but didn't hear anything back for over half an hour. A local pointed us to a bike shop 2 km away and off we went. This was the hottest day (39 C) the Netherlands had experienced in over a decade and we had almost 60 km to cover, so we wanted an earlier start. By the time the hotel emailed us back we were already at the bike shop getting it fixed. There's simply no way that we'd wait another hour or 2 for the hotel to send help. The mechanic was so disappointed with the bike's condition that he said the hotel should pay for the repair and that they may call him if they had any questions. The front desk told us their bike supplier would likely pay us back for the repair but 3 weeks later we're still waiting. The point is: I took the bike from the hotel, not their supplier. Any reasonable hotel would compensate their customers and deal with their supplier on their own. I'm not going to get too upset losing 35 euros but this shows how terrible customer service is with this hotel. You may stay there and it should be OK as long as nothing goes wrong.
CityHub Rotterdam

CityHub Rotterdam

Rotterdam|1.08km from city centre
After stay at the Copenhagen CityHub I thought why not give this Rotterdam one a go as my experience before was great. Well firstly my god it was noisy, I had requested a quiet pod in the hotel as I'm a very light sleeper (even with earplugs in and pillow overhead lol) . So I was placed near the toilets/showers.... Ding ding ding alarms should have been going off then as the amount of banging those toilets/showers doors and the thumping of the people who sounded like they was thumping past all the pods (request a top pod in future). With ear plugs I was woken up early by other pod users who didn't have a care about anybody else who would have even been asleep as long as the could have a chat in the hall ways as loud as possible. So if you are going out and getting drunk this hotel is perfect for you but if you are on a sightseeing trip and wanting a early night we'll best of luck with that. None of my USB chargers were working in my pod but luckily I had brought a plug with more than 1 socket on it for charging. You get what you pay here and for a single person it's the cheapest option in the city. Lockers are huge and fitted my large suitcase in very easily. Staff very helpful as usual especially the American guy. Would I stay again, I'm afraid I wouldn't at this one as far too noisy for me. Maybe big groups shouldn't be all put on same floor and then they can meet in area downstairs and chat as loud as possible as they want at any time that suits them.

Le Marin Boutique Hotel

Le Marin Boutique Hotel

Rotterdam|1.54km from city centre
Beautifully designed boutique hotel! Love the marine references and the understated elegance. You can see the care that has been put into every aspect and I really appreciated it and enjoyed all of the details. Rooms are on the smaller side even with upgrade but very peaceful, quiet, comfortable, lovely spaces. My room looked out onto a quiet courtyard with trees turning golden colors in the autumn weather, so beautiful. Gorgeous bathroom. Good proximity to centraal and a nice walk to everything in the city center. Seems to be a somewhat residential area with grocery stores nearby if you need provisions. Breakfast was absolutely wonderful, and staff went the extra mile to make eggs and bacon the morning of my departure—fuel for the road!—which I really appreciated. Thank you so much! Sergio the owner is lovely, very welcoming and accommodating to guest needs. Great music and nice atmosphere in a small lounge/cafe space. Note that there are no refrigerators in the rooms so you’ll need to use the first floor fridge with the front desk attendants to get things for you as needed. I will mention that there was a bit of a boundary issue with one male attendant my last evening there so not sure I will return here next time. But apart from that, this hotel is beautiful and I strongly recommend it for travelers, couples, families, all will be happy, comfortable and delighted with this hotel. Wonderful atmosphere all around and worth the money.

Ibis Budget Rotterdam the Hague Airport
3.8/560 Reviews
Very close to the airport, the location is really convenient, if you want to take the morning flight, you can come here first. But the table was not cleaned at check-in, and hygiene needs to be strengthened. The rest of the performance is not bad.
Motel One Rotterdam
4.3/543 Reviews
Motel One is always a good address for city travel. However, this in Rotterdam is especially, not only by the location in the pedestrian zone but also by the proximity to the market hall, which is a must in this great city. We like the roof-top bar, which has not only a great view of the city especially at night, but also a great selection of gin from all over the world. (to be found in Motel One's) The rooms are usually relatively small, but very smartly built with the equipment.
Van der Valk Hotel Rotterdam - Blijdorp
3.9/568 Reviews
Sorry guys and team of VD Valk Rotterdam Blijdorp, your team is super friendly and willing to find solutions, no bad word regarding the staff. The hotel is, compared to, other VD Valk hotels, like Ridderkerk, Zuidas, Assen etc just ‘staying alive’. Old, smelly, worn. The rooms need an update. After talking to the front desk manager we got an upgrade to a slightly bigger and slightly less worn room but for sure, this hotel needs a fresh-up. Sigarette burns on sink, stains in carpet, worn furniture, bedmatrasses with a dent etc. Again, staff was absolutely nice, just the material they have to work with is not. The building itself is nice, great architecture. Compared in pricing: not worth the Vd Valk Price they charge now. Management, hope to see improvements soon. Thank you staff, for your service.
Hotel Port
3.9/534 Reviews
I booked directly with them and regret it. The night we stayed our room got flooded with water coming from the ceiling. One of the guests slipped and almost lost their sight. They were left with pain and bruising around the eye. The reception called the owner and he came in 20 minutes. He didn't ask us how we were and his only concern was about stopping the leak I asked what he will do for us and he said he would call a doctor to attend the guest and won't be charging us for our room. No doctors came. Next day he said it was not the hotels fault that a leak happened and the guest needs to go to the hospital themselves and it's not hotels responsibility. He also said there was a misunderstanding and he meant we would not be charged for moving us to another room that was flooded. I thought by booking directly I would get a saving but I ended up not being protected and they don't really give you any saving. In fact it was quite expensive when you add parking and breakfast. They state everything is halal but what snacks you get at reception which you pay for are Snickers chocolates and nothing special. The breakfast was one of the worst I've had. It's a rip off. You get a few cereal, cheese, bread, tea and scrambled eggs. Not worth 11 euros they charge. We were the only people at breakfast. Overall the location is quite good and some of the staff are really wonderful but the package and guest welfare is atrocious. The owner is dishonest.

Hotel Unplugged
4/519 Reviews
The hotel seems like an annex to Hotel Emma in Rotterdam (2 min walking from Umplugged). Room is super cute decorated and clean, and the mattress is amazingly comfortable. Location is also really convenient, close to metro station and 10 min walk from Rotterdam Central Station. There is also a street close by with bars and nice brunch places. We book the hotel with my boyfriend for only one night after a concert in the Rotterdam Ahoy, but it was actually a really good place to stay longer! :)
