Shangri-La Vancouver

Downtown Vancouver|1.79km from Granville Island
We decided to go to Vancouver for Christmas and new year 2023 with my family. the snow had made it extremely difficult to get to Vancouver from Atlanta Ga and to connect in Toronto. WestJet lost my wife's ticket and even though she held the ticket to the plane, they would not let her in. so we got separated. my wife found only one ticket the next day so she insisted that I go so we can be actually together on Christmas. I took all the luggage and my passport and headed on to Vancouver. after 9 hours, including a 3-hour delay on the runway, I arrived at the hotel at 3 am. I can't tell you how miserable I felt.  I was sleep deprived, hungry, and emotional as I did not have my family on Christmas Eve and ETC. Nonetheless, I was happy to arrive at the hotel, so I can take a shower and order some food. I went to check in and showed my passport and it was all good until James asked for my credit card. I took my phone out to tap for accidentals since all my cards are on my apple pay. He said I have to have the actual card if I want to sleep there tonight. I told him we have fully paid through Expedia for 9 nights and my wife has the physical cards, but she'll be here in the morning. James said it was hotel policy and I can't even be on the property anymore. i asked to speak to the manager and he yelled at me ”I am the manager”. all of a sudden two security guys show up and I was speechless. these guys did not say a word. although I felt like they felt sorry for me.  I could not believe how we got escalated this far. So after 10 minutes of trying to reason with James, he agreed to let me sleep on a two-person couch in the basement lobby. they had good couches in the main lobby. but he said I have to be under his supervision. at 6 am he woke me up and I have to get up as guests were arriving. I told him I was one of his guests and he said we'll see. The next day, the day manager said hello and heard what happened. That was literally it. they all moved on. So to be clear, we had paid in full to a Forbes 5-star hotel, and this hotel treated us like nobodies because i did not carry a physical card at the time. I understand you have policies, but whatever happened to customer service? How much damage can I do? you cant have a 25-year-old guy in a black suit run your customer service department who lacks simple principles of customer service and understands the grey in black and white policies.  Honestly, this probably falls back on corporate's lack of training and lack of recruitment of top talent. I really hope that the brand manager reads this review and does something about it.

Sonder the Sunset

Downtown Vancouver|1km from Granville Island
Because the chartered car travels, it is not easy to evaluate the convenience of the location. It is a quiet street. It is a good place to watch the sunset from the sunset beach. In the area where the whole down town should be safe, the famous rainbow is on the edge. Street, we only know when we arrived, just to catch up with the weekend, go to the evening to watch the fun, very fun to say, there are simple Chinese restaurants and Japanese restaurants, fast food restaurants, more bars, many rainbows flag. It is not far from the gas town and Chinatown, and it takes ten minutes to drive. The facilities in the hotel are apartment-type. We have booked two rooms with kitchens. Because there are old people and children, it is really convenient to have a kitchen. A few days before the old man’s time difference, we packed hot porridge from the Chinese restaurant. Once I didn't have porridge, I bought a small packet of rice and came back to cook it myself. It was the most difficult time to get through the safe time. The bed is soft and hard, it is suitable, there are no slippers and toothbrushes, you need to bring your own, the front desk also sells, the hotel is prepared for shampoo conditioner and body lotion. In addition, there are garbage sorting in Canada, which is divided into: general garbage, recycling garbage and kitchen waste. It is described in the kitchen, and it is better to sort it according to the color of the trash can. There is a Sichuan girl at the front desk, very enthusiastic and thoughtful.

The airport is on the Canadian line, under the town of Yale, and the subway is just across the road. At the door of the hotel, a few minutes to the right, there is a locomotive showroom where the staff warmly introduces Vancouver's tourist attractions. After going through this showroom, walk a few more minutes and get to the beach. This is the water bus, and you can get more than four Canadian dollars to Granville Island. Stroll around the island, walk to the Vancouver Maritime Museum, then walk to the town, take bus number 7, get off at Gastown, walk from Gastown to Canada Square, watch Leap Canada, great, take the Canada Plaza, sit The Canadian line returned to the hotel in two stops. There is no need to talk about the hotel room, comfortable, clean, very comfortable to bathe, breakfast is a set meal, delicious. good service. The hotel staff is warm and courteous.

We loved this hotel. It was clean, the staff was friendly and very helpful. It is well located and walking distance to everything. There was an error from our third party booking agent, and the front staff looked into it, and called me up immediately to tell me it was rectified. Thank you.

This hotel could be so much better, especially for the price. On the positive side, the staff, including the concierge, Lisa, and the whole crew on the G floor are outstanding - the most friendly and helpful people. My suite was comfortable and quiet. The king size bed was firm. The air conditioner works well. The bathroom is big. The hotel location is good, near museums and Yaletown, with restaurants and boutiques nearby. The gym and the pool area are also good and, not many hotels in the city have an outdoor pool. The negatives are the extreme neglect regarding renovation and cleaning. For example, with COVID still an issue, after I checked in and stayed the first night in the hotel, I found an empty bottle of water behind the sofa and an used and dirty shirt near the bed. I did not noticed it immediately, because I arrived at 2 am and went straight to bed. To get my room cleaned daily was an ordeal. The hotel apologizes for being understaffed, but the prices were high, around CAD $5.500 for a week’s stay. If you cannot deliver the service, you should not be charging for it, The carpets and the curtains look old, dirty and shabby in the room and common areas. But by far the worse things about the Hilton Vancouver are the elevators. It is not unusual to wait 15 minutes, I am not exaggerating, to go from your floor to the lobby. I understand there is a shortage of workers in Vancouver, but some of the disappointing features of the Hilton could, in my opinion, be addressed by management that cares and is committed to providing guests with what they deserve based on their rates.

We stayed in the one bedroom suite, and it was amazing. You can tell this is a well managed hotel, as service was on point and friendly. Room facilities are modern, and the floor to ceiling windows let us enjoy the yaletown views. Northwest modern decor with fun additions such as beanbags made the room a joy to stay in. We’ve stayed at the 5star hotels all over this city, and have now settled in on the Douglas as our go to hotel. Keep up the good work.

Good for one night and very nicely located for the Granville food market - there is definitely a homeless issue on the end of the block which is a shame but quite common in North America

A very centrally located hotel. A continental style breakfast can be included in your stay. The room did have a galley kitchen with a microwave, fridge and oven. One down side was the lamps in the bedroom area. The switches were very dodgy. In fact we unplugged them and used only the main lights. The staff were very helpful.
