Located inside the Datong old city, the inn itself is a historic building and has a history of its own. There are many interesting decors to look at in the property. The location is excellent and nearby some very good restaurants. It has a laundry room with 2 washers and 1 dryer which are very important in my opinion.The room was very nice, the cleanliness was very good and kept in very good condition. Although there was no rotating menu for the buffet breakfast each morning, the food is good and there's also beef/lamb offal rice noodles on request. The best parts about the hotel are the staff and service. They were extremely welcoming and friendly. I usually get disappointed by restaurant recommendations by hotel staff but all the restaurants recommended were excellent and not overly expensive. They could help you make a reservation (those restaurants get super busy on weekends and holidays) as well if you don't speak Chinese. We had to check out really early on the last day and the staff promptly packed us some eggs and bread for breakfast even though we didn't request it the night prior. I'm sure if you request it the day/night before, they'll be able to pack you something more substantial. I don't normally leave reviews but this property was worth my time.

This establishment is fantastic. Rooms clean and upgraded, staff extremely accommodating and friendly. It has the perfect location to start to explore the town and is very close to where the nightly light show is, so an easy walk back to your room. The morning breakfast is fresh made, and more than enough food to fill you up for your day of exploration. They offer pick-up and drop-off to the train station for free. I can not express enough how hospitable the staff is and they make your stay special.

The B&B is close to the North Gate, so it was pretty easy to find. The owner even picked me up from Pingyao Ancient City Station late at night, which I really appreciated – it made my travel experience so much better. They carefully explained the locations of attractions and gave me a map. When I left, they even gave me some vinegar as a gift; they're incredibly warm and welcoming. Seriously, if you're coming to Pingyao, you should definitely stay here, haha! It's safe, clean, and the facilities are all there. For longer stays, they even proactively clean your room. The decor has a local flair too – who wouldn't want to try sleeping on a traditional heated 'kang' bed without any fuss? Thanks for everything, I'll definitely stay here again next time. The Renyi is a wonderful hotel in a great location looking onto the City walls. We were greeted by the friendly and welcoming owner who showed us to our rooms. We were two independent travellers who decided to have a room each, and both rooms were superb. Mine looked onto the pretty courtyard while my friend’s faced the City walls, with each having a balcony with table and chairs. Both rooms were duplex with comfortable and spacious living areas and bathroom/showers downstairs and the bedroom upstairs. All areas were spotlessly clean and the bed was big and comfortable and I had a wonderful night sleep. Centre stage though is the gorgeous communal area which was adorned with beautiful plants and flowers, a small fish pond and even a peacock that gloriously but quietly strutted its stuff. The location of the hotel is perfect for walking around the ancient city with the major tourist attractions only minutes from the hotel’s door. The ancient city itself is stunning and delightful to walk around. We also took a trip to the nearby Yungang Grottoes which are breathtaking and a must see. We were both amazed by their beauty and historical significance to both Chinese and Buddhist cultures. There are also many great restaurants within walking distance of the Renyi, and the owners were very helpful and provided us with any advice we needed. As other reviewers have said the Renyi is a beautiful blend of historic and modern and I would highly recommended the hotel to anyone thinking of staying in DaTong.

Cosy historical building done up very nicely. Room was well renovated, owner super friendly and very accommodating, we asked for more water, toilet paper, different type of breakfast etc all happy to oblige. 10 minutes walk to light show, 10m walk to center of ancient city where most of the historical sites were. 10m walk to outside where the best food is..DO NOT eat inside the old city, food outside much better. Owner also arranged for car to take us to Wang Family compound and Shuanglian temple at much better price than I could find anywhere online. and private transfer to/from train station as well. Very happy I booked to stay at this location. Breakfast was EXCELLENT

Traveling with my family, I chose to stay inside Pingyao Ancient City. There are many guesthouses here, and it turns out choosing Qigong Mansion was the smartest decision! It's a peaceful spot tucked away on the main street of the ancient city. From the moment I stepped in, I was deeply drawn to the historic charm of the old house. The bedding was super comfortable, I could sleep for a long time without my back hurting. Even though it's an old house, it wasn't damp or cold, and every corner of the room was immaculately clean. The breakfast was also delicious, and the thoughtful service from the owner, landlady, and driver was especially noteworthy. Next time I visit Pingyao, I'll definitely stay here again. It's a guesthouse you'll miss after leaving, full of warmth and human touch ❤️

My trip to Pingyao was pretty perfect this time, especially this hotel. It's definitely the most satisfying and best value-for-money stay I've had. First off, the hotel's location is excellent, right on Yamen Street inside the ancient city, very close to the core attraction, the County Government Office. Other places like Xie Tong Qing and Tong Xing Gong are also not far. Secondly, the hotel blends ancient charm with modern comfort. The overall style is that of an old-fashioned courtyard, with each room having its own small yard. Inside, however, it's modern hotel style. Although my room wasn't huge, it had all the essential facilities, and even featured a wet/dry separation bathroom. Lastly, the price was very reasonable, making it incredibly good value for money! PS: At checkout, the front desk lady even gave me some local Pingyao specialties, which was a lovely surprise!

Excellent value for money, spotlessly clean, and the staff provide great service. Breakfast is included, and the location offers very convenient transportation for exploring. In the evenings, it's lovely to stroll out to the square and enjoy the cool air. I wholeheartedly recommend Wutongge Hotel to anyone planning a trip to Datong.

Coming to Pingyao in winter truly is a great way to avoid the crowds. It's quiet, freeing, and before choosing a hotel, I saw many people on Xiaohongshu saying to avoid Pingyao or not to stay inside the city walls. In reality, everyone's experience here is unique. The inn we chose was quite charming and not far from the old town. In the mornings, you can jog through the narrow alleys all the way to the city wall. It's also close to the Huoshen Temple, where you can learn about ancient Shanxi architecture. The inn's service was excellent too, highly recommended!
