I had a pleasant stay at Promenade Hotel. The location is very convenient right in the city center, close to shopping malls, waterfront attractions, and dining options. It’s a great base for exploring Kota Kinabalu. The lobby and common areas are spacious and welcoming. My room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained with all the basic amenities I needed. The sea view rooms are especially worth it for the sunset views over the waterfront. Breakfast offered a good variety of local and international options, though the restaurant can get quite busy during peak hours. The staff were generally friendly and helpful, and check-in/check-out was smooth. Overall, everything was good 😊😊😊

On of the best hotel in KK! From front desk to housekeeping, it was such a great experience! Include your breakfast package if you decided to stay here! You won’t regret it! Spread of selection for you, noodles, rice, sushi, you name it! Definitely worth it! The scenery and view from the hotel room was breathtaking. You’re able to see Mt Kinabalu (if it’s not raining!). Sky is super bright by 5:45-6am, be sure to catch the sunrise ! Overall, no regret choosing this hotel for my 5D4N trip! 😊😊👍🏻👍🏻

Compared to hotels in Semporna, this place is vastly superior, really showing that a star-rated hotel can guarantee quality. The hotel breakfast was excellent, and the kids absolutely loved the rooftop pool, wanting to swim there every single day. Upon check-in on arrival day, we were even offered a welcome drink.

Stayed 3 nights for RM1860 at Hyatt Regency KK for our anniversary. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t meet our expectations for a 5★ hotel. 1. Room details were unclear – I filtered for a bathtub but the room had none. 2. Despite emailing in advance, no small anniversary gesture was offered. Other hotels have given complimentary cake even for 1-night stays, but here only celebration packages were suggested. 3. Breakfast lacked variety – mostly the same dishes with only slight changes. 4. Reception service felt less welcoming compared to how they treated foreign guests. 5. Even after paying RM65 for a cake package, we were told it would be delivered the next day at 7pm, but it suddenly arrived just 2 hours after check-in. Very poor coordination between staff. 6. During check-in, I noticed a board at reception stating that guests checking in between Merdeka and Malaysia Day would receive F&B vouchers. It didn’t mention that this was only for bookings made via the hotel’s website or specific platforms. As a guest, this felt unfair and not transparent. Only the view is superb since we choose sea view. The value and service were far below expectation. Hope the hotel can improve, but I personally wouldn’t choose Hyatt Regency KK again.

Hotel location and room are good but cleaning was bad ! Bathtub corner has full of “black dots” but they just let it be, dun even try to clean it! And no vacuum ? Hair is still everywhere when back. They also won’t wash the spoon we had used.

Checked in at the hotel at around 9.30pm. I noticed the air conditiong was kinda hot. But i thought to myself, I’ll give it some time run first. Maybe it’ll get better soon. Then an hour later, it was still hot, so i called operator, and she said she will send someone to our room. Waited about 30 minutes or more, still nobody came. I called the second time, and she said she’ll get someone to our room again. And that’s it, nobody came to our room, to help us with the air conditioning. And we were to tired to wait already. So My 8 month old baby sleept sweating that night and i had to fan him with the note book that they put beside the bed. Upon checkout, I complained to the receptionist and the manager about the incident, and they checked on their system that the issue had been resolved. Which was abvioustly a lie. So the manager said he will investigate the matter and he promised something to me. So i hope he keep his words. I’m a regular here, so i know there was something wrong with the air conditioning. I know the quality of the hotel. So let’s see wether the manager is serious about his words.

The check-in experience is great. The Luma Hotel team are all very friendly. Parking is available right at the entrance of the hotel for a fee of RM30 per day. They provided cold towel and welcome drink to help me freshen up after my long drive from Kundasang. The room is clean and spacious. You can view the bathtub from the bed if you open up the panels. This is great for those with kids and want to monitor them from the comfort of your bed. There is no swimming pool but this is understandable for the size of the hotel. Breakfast is decent with good spread. Not much crowd at 6am. There are 24hrs convenience stores within the same building for those who need to buy your supplies. The hotel is located near the Airport and Imago Shopping Mall. Other places of tourist attractions are also nearby if your are driving or book e-hailing services like Grab. Last but not least, I would like to thank the team for the personalised birthday card and the complimentary cake. It is truly memorable.

Good location - We stayed here only for 1 night before catching a morning flight after a trip to Manukan Island. It was about 15 mins from the airport and 6 mins from Sutera Harbour. We were able to check in early at about 1pm. It was a great location with the market and food stalls just in front of the hotel. There was also the night market just beside the hotel. Club lounge - We enjoyed our time at the club lobby with unlimited alcoholic drinks from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. The service staff were very patient, welcoming, and attentive. Room - we had the king room with City view. The room was spacious and clean. While it was stated city view, we were able to have a view of the harbour and Mt Kinabalu at the far distance.

Honestly, it was the little things. The room was simple but super clean. The bed was way more comfortable than I expected. The staff were genuinely friendly, not the fake kind. Everything I needed was nearby, so I didn’t waste time getting around. For the price I paid, I felt like I got way more than I expected. It’s not fancy, but it’s solid. I’d definitely stay again.

Iinosuke’eThe Klagan Regency at 1Borneo Hypermall in Kota Kinabalu is a 4-star hotel that offers a blend of comfort, convenience, and affordability for both leisure and business travelers. Situated approximately 20 minutes from Kota Kinabalu city center, the hotel is directly connected to 1Borneo Hypermall, providing guests with immediate access to over 300 shopping, dining, and entertainment outlets. ⸻ Location & Accessibility The hotel’s location is particularly advantageous for guests with business at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) or those seeking a stay away from the city’s hustle and bustle. Its integration with 1Borneo Hypermall ensures that shopping and dining options are just steps away. However, some guests have noted that the hotel is relatively distant from Kota Kinabalu’s main attractions, which may require additional travel time. ⸻ Rooms & Comfort Guests frequently commend the spaciousness and cleanliness of the rooms. Many reviews highlight the comfortable beds, ample amenities, and pleasant views from the rooms. However, there have been occasional mentions of maintenance issues, such as air conditioning problems or the need for room refurbishments. ⸻ Dining Experience The hotel’s breakfast offerings receive mixed reviews. While some guests appreciate the variety and taste, including local dishes like “ayam masak kicap,” others feel that the selection is limited and that the replenishment of food items during peak hours could be improved. ⸻ Amenities & Facilities The Klagan Regency boasts a range of facilities, including three swimming pools (indoor, outdoor, and a children’s pool), a fitness center, and direct access to the shopping mall. These amenities cater to both families and business travelers. However, some guests have pointed out that the cleanliness of the pool areas could be enhanced. ⸻ Parking & Transportation Parking has been a consistent concern among guests. The hotel offers limited parking spaces, operating on a first-come, first-served basis. This has led to challenges for guests, especially during peak periods, with some having to seek alternative parking options in the mall, often at additional costs. ⸻ Service & Staff The hotel’s staff receive high praise for their friendliness and professionalism. Guests have highlighted instances where staff members went above and beyond to assist, from accommodating special requests to providing guidance on local attractions. Such positive interactions contribute significantly to the overall guest experience. ⸻ Overall Impression The Klagan Regency at 1Borneo offers a comfortable and convenient stay, especially for those looking to be close to shopping facilities and away from the city’s core. While there are areas for improvement, particularly concerning parking and certain maintenance aspects, the hotel’s strengths in service, room comfort, and location within a major mall make it a viable option for travelers visiting Kota Kinabalu. ⸻ Pros: • Spacious and clean rooms • Direct access to 1Borneo Hypermall • Friendly and accommodating staff • Multiple swimming pools and fitness center Cons: • Limited parking availability • Distance from Kota Kinabalu city center • Occasional maintenance issues in rooms • Breakfast variety could be enhanced ⸻ Rating Summary: • Cleanliness: 8.7/10 • Comfort: 8.7/10 • Location: 8.5/10 • Facilities: 8.6/10 • Staff: 9.1/10 • Value for Money: 8.7/10 • Overall: 8.4/10

AAnonymous UserJust got back home yesterday, and I'm determined to write a thorough review for this hotel. My kids also encouraged me to review it, because it truly deserves it. We booked four ocean villas for two nights, and I initially thought our chances of encountering issues would be higher with such a large booking. But we didn't run into any problems at all! In fact, I even regretted not booking more nights, mainly because I was put off by too many negative reviews on Ctrip. 1. **Service:** If you're comfortable communicating in English, the hotel service is absolutely fantastic. Most of the staff speak excellent English and were diligent in explaining activities, facilities, schedules, and programs. They showed us where everything was in the room and proactively informed us about the cost if we broke any of the toiletries bottles. The higher cost for broken bottles is because the contents are genuinely expensive – they're pure plant essential oil toiletries. As someone who regularly uses essential oils, I know they shouldn't be stored in plastic. Plus, these toiletries left our hair and skin feeling moisturized, not dry. I found them to be very effective. If you're worried about breaking them, just place them on the floor. 2. **Seawater:** The seawater is quite clear. While it's not a 'jelly blue,' the clarity is definitely good. We did experience a heavy downpour one day, and the water became a bit murky the next, but it was still perfectly acceptable. The photo of the large sea turtle looks a bit blurry because it was taken with a waterproof phone case, but the water itself was actually very clear. That was taken from under our water villa. The manta ray was photographed near the stairs of our water villa room. 3. **No Outside Food Policy:** They don't allow outside food in the rooms because it attracts ants and monkeys. The front desk has a dedicated area for storing snacks. We didn't bring any snacks into our room and always closed the door promptly, so we didn't have any bugs or insects. A crucial point: absolutely do not feed the monkeys! 4. **Meals:** We had all our meals at the hotel restaurant, and the food was truly delicious. A main meal costs around 90+ MYR per person (about 160 CNY). We felt the food was excellent, with a good variety of dishes and drinks beyond just the main courses. The kids' portions were a bit small; our four children ordered 7 kids' meals, and eventually, we just ordered them regular adult meals instead. 5. **Hot Water:** Regarding previous reviews mentioning no hot water, one of our rooms indeed had this issue. We called the front desk, and it turned out there's a 'water heater' button on the wall. Hot water was available within 15 minutes. So, don't hesitate to ask! Don't be shy; good service often requires you to speak up. 6. **Free Rentals:** Paddleboards, small boats, fins, and masks are all available for free rental. 7. **Marine Life:** In the ocean, we spotted baby sharks, baby manta rays, triggerfish, archerfish (the ones that shoot water), porcupinefish, and even a large sea turtle (which is rare, but we got lucky!). 8. **Welcome/Farewell:** We received a welcome ceremony and a welcome drink upon arrival. Upon departure, we sometimes had the whole staff waving goodbye to us. 9. **Guest Demographics:** There were a lot of European and American guests at the hotel, some Koreans, but not many Chinese guests. I wonder if this is due to the excessive negative reviews on Ctrip. 10. **Cleanliness:** The hygiene was excellent, and the rooms were very clean. Each room came with life vests, so you could go snorkeling anytime. That pretty much covers it. I believe if your English communication is good, feel free to chat with the front desk and restaurant staff; they are very engaging. At 8 AM, the hotel organizes a free jungle trek. It was a bit tiring, and we didn't see much – just hiking uphill. For reference, my experience this trip, and with these four rooms, was genuinely excellent. Having been to places like the Maldives, Bali, and Koh Lipe... I think this hotel offers great value for money, and I would definitely come back. Hotels at this price point on Koh Lipe before were significantly worse.

GGuest UserThe location is excellent. A taxi from the airport costs only around 9 MYR. It's conveniently located near Gaya Street and Suria Sabah shopping mall. You'll find many popular eateries and trendy spots in the area, including famous names like Sin Kee and Yu Kee Bak Kut Teh, Yee Fung Laksa, and Gaya Coconut. There are also plenty of convenience stores, including 7-Eleven, nearby. Two well-known mural photo spots are just around the corner, and both Durian Street and the durian stalls under the bridge are within easy walking distance.

JjoycelsJuly 2024 TL;DR: This place feels more like a meditation centre than a hotel, it will not provide you with supplements. It's a bare room. You need to bring toothbrush&paste and buy drinks somewhere as it is not provided. No tv and fan. No in-house restaurant. There are mosquitoes at the garden near afternoon, and the balcony at night, but there are no insects in the room (family room). In exchange you will get a very clear and vivid Mt Kinabalu view in the near-dawn morning (where there is no mosquito), a working shower with heater, concrete floor that reduces nearby noise, and cold foggy experience. Long: This place is within the fog path so you will get the foggy experience. You can also see Mt. Kinabalu at the right time and it looks quite close (e.g. dawn 6 a.m.). You can even see the electric towers and resthouse, it's that close. Moreover, this place is more like a meditation centre than a hotel. It is visibly run down probably since covid as that is also when the in-house restaurant got closed down. Considering my experience as a recurrent visitor of Kundasang, mosquito has always been the least of my concern. Somehow this place has lots of them. We got bit quite a lot in a short span of time. Undesirable / Cons: -No water kettle, no supplements (water bottle, coffee pack, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.). Porcelain mugs are provided though -No in-house cafe/restaurant but nearby has a few (400 meters at least) -No tv, no fan but cold in general -Quite a lot of mosquito and moths outside at the garden place in the afternoon and at the balcony connecting the 2 buildings at night. There are no electric zapper. -Seems a bit run down at the garden. 2 broken board pieces on the floor for example. -It has no Qibla for muslim people, at least in family room Desirable / Pros: -Big room. Not smelly -Is cement board floor -Big single beds. Not smelly -Clean bed. Fluffy cover. -Water heater is working for family room at least -Relatively clean inside room and at reception. No insects in room. No weird bugs around. -Has a table and chairs in room -Lots of electrical port -Wifi provided by hotel is strong (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz -Very near main road. So good road going towards the hotel -Aki-Aki trail starting point is nearby. Plan to go next time so no experience as of this review This place is not too bad. Not too good either. Personally, I wouldn't place this as my top place for the foggy and view considering other options but I don't mind returning if necessary. It will sure be much much better to highly recommended with much needed renovation and have some methods to deal with those mosquito. p.s. There's a cute puppy that invites you at the entrance. 😂 p.s.s. I saw a greater coucal gliding into the forest in the morning!

AAndrew HO 何英杰Not as good as my expectations of 5 stars of shangri la hotel, but still in great value and services consider the price is much cheaper. I came with my family including 2 kids at 6 and 8, they love the game area and swimming pools with water slides. Because of 2 nights stay in the wet seasons in September. especially after 5pm, a tropical rainfall so that I didn't get any chance to see sunset in the beaches. The beaches are not really good condition of sand quality. I enjoyed the morning hiking trip to the nearby hills and also the walk in the beach. Many wildlife and calm of the days.

DDamiann HernandezA Little Paradise That Truly Heals the Soul! I had heard about this hidden gem from a post and a few strangers who spoke so highly of it and honestly, I thought it was too good to be true. But now, having experienced it myself, I can say without a doubt: it is real, and it's even more magical than I imagined. From the moment we arrived, the pearly white sand and crystal-clear blue ocean took my breath away. But what stood out even more was the warmth and hospitality we received. A heartfelt thank you to the Resort Manager, Mr. Thomas, and the Operations Manager, Mr. Arthur, along with the island representatives Mr. Malik & Mr. Rizal. They were all there to personally greet us at the jetty with such genuine smiles and open arms I was honestly so touched by the welcome. The reception team made us feel truly cared for. Thank you to Ms. Elsy and Ms. Ezra for the thoughtful welcome treat and for handling everything so professionally, yet warmly. I only stayed one night, and I already regret not booking a longer stay! It was one of the best trips I've ever had. The island has such a healing atmosphere so calm, relaxing, and peaceful. It genuinely felt like I had found a private paradise in Sabah. The food? Surprising and delightful! I highly recommend the Fried Tuaran Mee and the Island Curry Noodle they were absolutely delicious. Huge thanks to Mr. Amirul and Mr. Fanndy for their attentive and friendly service during lunch, dinner, and breakfast. Every request was met with efficiency and a smile. Breakfast was typical of a resort, but the view made it unforgettable imagine enjoying your meal while gazing at the majestic Mount Kinabalu. I was genuinely moved to tears. The snorkeling experience was another highlight. Even though I’m not a confident swimmer, the staff Addy, Roey, Sunita, Fikri, and Nas ensured we were safe, cared for, and had fun. Their patience and kindness made all the difference. My room was in great condition, comfortable, and clean just what I needed for a restful night. Everything about this trip the scenery, the people, the service, was what I needed to feel renewed and special. Last but definitely not least, thank you to Captain Azman and the boat crew, especially Abdul, along with the ever-friendly Guest Service Agents Mr. Romeo, Mr. Ken, and Mr. Ellwoed. From our arrival to our farewell, they made us feel welcomed and valued. Their smiles and warm send-off made it hard to leave and easy to want to return. I will definitely be back, and next time, for a longer stay. This place is a treasure, and I'm so grateful for the memories made!

GGuest UserHotel Review Positive Points: 1. Air-conditioning was very effective and kept the room comfortable throughout the stay. 2. Great window view – beautiful sea and jetty scenery that adds to the relaxing atmosphere. (see my attached picture) 3. Excellent location – conveniently close to eateries and the jetty, making it easy to get around. 4. Reasonably priced in-house food – offers good value for money for guests who prefer to dine in. 5. Complimentary extra bottled water was provided upon request, which was appreciated. 6. Friendly and helpful staff across all departments – from housekeeping, café, and maintenance to the front desk. Everyone was courteous and attentive. 7. Special mention to the chef – a very kind and gentlemanly person. On our first day, we ordered 6 fried eggs for breakfast, assuming they were included. The chef initially didn’t inform us of the RM2 charge per egg and kindly did not charge us for them. When we later tried to order again, he politely informed us about the charge. We truly appreciated his honesty and kind gesture. 8. very nice grilled meat at the roof cafe (5th floor). The promo price is 5 sticks for rm9.9 . worth to eat! --- Areas for Improvement: 1. Limited breakfast buffet selection – mainly local dishes such as chicken, eggs, vegetables, rice, or noodles. While the food was tasty, there were no options like fresh milk, cereal, or egg station. Fruit choices were also limited to just bananas every day. 2. Window leakage during heavy rain – rainwater entered the room. However, the staff responded promptly and mopped the floor immediately. 3. No robe hooks in the bathroom – makes it inconvenient to hang clothes or towels. 4. Shortage of bath towels – clean towels were only available in the late afternoon after laundry was returned. 5. Extra blanket charge – an additional around rm50-60 was required if requesting one more blanket, which felt a bit expensive. 6. Low water pressure in the shower – the water flow was quite weak, making the shower experience less enjoyable. 7. Housekeeping quality needs improvement – there was sand in the room, and although we informed the staff, it was not cleaned properly even after the feedback. Extra Tip for Travellers: There’s no laundry shop in Semporna town, so do remember to bring enough clothes for your stay.
