"First off, a shout-out for the great location – facing the sea, right next to Mankali, and very close to Imago. The hotel itself is quite large, but a bit dated. There were some basic issues with water and electricity; the shower water pressure fluctuated and sometimes there was no hot water. Breakfast wasn't very good. However, overall it's still decent value for money."

"Overall, I had a pleasant stay at Hotel N°5. The management was good, and the staff were helpful whenever assistance was needed. The surrounding environment was also nice and convenient, making it a comfortable place to stay. The room was generally clean and comfortable. The only minor issue was that one of the towels had a slight cigarette smell, which could be improved. Aside from that, everything else met my expectations. I would consider staying here again and hope the towel freshness can be improved in the future."

"The location is excellent. Great value for money too. During my 6-night stay, I used breakfast once, and I was satisfied with the quality. From the window, you can see the port of Jezertun directly, and across the way is Suriasbahamol. It was nice that it was close to Filipino Market and Gayatri Street, and there was a convenience store and a bank. The room cleaning wasn’t done properly, so I mentioned it, and it was fixed immediately. I changed the shower filter every other day. Best value-for-money hotel. If I go to Kota Kinabalu again, I will use it once more. A little further on there’s a Dikingsaba durian shop, and it’s delicious."

"This hotel was a pleasant surprise! It's right in the city center, and downstairs is the famous Welcome Seafood restaurant, which we ate at for three days straight – so convenient and delicious! I initially thought the 32 sqm room would be small, but it felt much more spacious than the room I previously stayed in at Magellan. The sofa in the room was also very comfortable. Even though it's an older hotel, it doesn't feel run-down. The downsides are the poor soundproofing; if your room isn't on a high floor, you can hear a lot of motorcycle noise. Also, they pre-authorize 200 (presumably a local currency amount), so I recommend having cash on hand because it takes a very slow two weeks for them to release the pre-authorization. The front desk staff were quite stiff, except for one handsome young man who spoke Chinese."

"The location is convenient, and the hotel provides free parking, which is a plus. However, there are several areas that could be improved. The hotel does not provide complimentary bottled water. Instead, guests are expected to refill drinking water from a water filter located inside the bathroom. While I understand the effort to reduce plastic waste, it feels rather odd and uncomfortable to get drinking water from the bathroom. The bed was also quite firm, and the mattress protector was not properly fitted, making the bed feel untidy. In addition, the towels still had the “Shangri-La” branding. I understand this property was previously a Shangri-La hotel, but seeing towels with the old branding gives the impression that they have not been replaced for a very long time. The breakfast was another disappointment, with very limited choices compared to hotels in a similar price range. Overall, the hotel has a good location and free parking, but the room comfort, amenities, and breakfast could be significantly improved."

"The owner is super nice and friendly. Even when we checked in past midnight, he still came downstairs to pick us up and helped with our luggage. He even prepared fruits and local souvenirs for us. He helped us resolve any issues promptly. The attention to detail was excellent; the hand soap smelled great, the hairdryer was high quality, and they even provided disposable toilet seat covers. All the amenities were also very new. He also recommended many delicious restaurants, and not a single one disappointed! I especially recommend Jing Wen Cafe. The location is absolutely fantastic, right on Gaya Street. All the popular influencer-recommended restaurants are just a two to three-minute walk away, and taking a taxi to various attractions isn't expensive either. The only minor drawback is that, being in the city center, you might occasionally hear motorcycles passing by at night, but the owner thoughtfully provided earplugs. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and I highly recommend it to everyone!"

"Overall, it was decent, especially having a balcony right by the pool, which was great, and the service attitude was also very good. However, the main issues were, first, the breakfast was terrible. I find it hard to accept that a hotel costing eight or nine hundred yuan a night would offer such a limited selection of food, just a small row of options. Secondly, the metal plate on the door could easily scratch your arm when opening it. The soundproofing was also poor; you could hear noise from other guest rooms and music from the swimming pool area."

"The facilities are indeed quite old; the corners of the tables and cabinets are worn and shabby. The hygiene was just so-so. I compared it to another Hyatt Centric, which had higher ratings but wasn't as close to the sea as this one. I came specifically for the sea view and asked the front desk in advance to reserve a high-floor sea view room. The view was slightly inferior to the sea view B&B I stayed at previously, but still acceptable. The sink design is unfriendly; I felt like I was going to fall into the basin. I highly recommend the breakfast – the variety is amazing. Make sure to leave plenty of time in the morning to savor it slowly. A happy day starts with breakfast, haha!"

Three days, two nights, and every day brought a new kind of 'excitement.' Day one, the air conditioning didn't work, there were tons of mosquitoes, and the shower only had cold water. The only decent thing for dinner was the fried shrimp, which disappeared in seconds, and the few other dishes available were practically snatched away. It felt like a refugee experience. Day two, we got a different room. After swimming, I went back to shower, and there was no water, then cold water, then extremely hot water, constantly cycling. The water pressure was also incredibly low; I almost lost my mind trying to rinse the shampoo out of my hair. That night, it was very windy, and there was a lot of noise outside, as if something wasn't properly secured. On the third day, as we were checking out, our luggage was mistakenly taken by a staff member and given to other guests. It was only returned after the other guests realized the error. Our luggage was perfectly fine in the restaurant; how dare you just take it away? Do you have any basic management sense? Of course, the environment is nice, that's the only highlight. Given how expensive it was during Chinese New Year, you should provide a service level that matches the price. The buffet was cafeteria-standard, and we still had to fight for food. Are you not ashamed?

Overall, the hotel is good, especially because of its convenient location near a shopping mall, making it easy to purchase daily necessities and other items. The breakfast café is spacious and offers a wide variety of food choices. However, there are a few areas that could be improved. While the breakfast selection is extensive, the taste of the food was somewhat disappointing and could be enhanced. In addition, the cleanliness of the room needs more attention. The floor felt dusty, as if it had not been properly swept or vacuumed. Guests who are not comfortable wearing the hotel slippers may notice the dust more easily. With improvements to room cleanliness and food quality, the overall guest experience would be much better.

I originally booked a twin room and was worried about getting one facing the construction site. Upon arrival, the hotel informed me that the twin room was unavailable and upgraded me to a suite, which was very spacious. The swimming pool and splash area for kids were great; we pretty much spent the whole first day at the hotel. Breakfast was decent, nothing spectacular but perfectly fine. Overall, I'm quite satisfied. I just wonder when the construction next door will be finished; it should be even better once it's done. The VR attendant inside was very enthusiastic; my child even went over time, but he still let them have another round.

The water in the hotel's area is heavily polluted; it's so dirty that snorkeling is completely out of the question! The front desk staff were very perfunctory with guest requests and didn't follow through on promises. In the morning, we requested a private boat tour for island hopping and snorkeling. We discussed the time and itinerary with the dive center staff and finalized the price with the front desk. We even altered our subsequent travel plans for this. However, by 4 PM, we still hadn't received confirmation. When we called the front desk, they told us they couldn't arrange it. We asked several people, and got different explanations: first they said there were no boats, then that other guests had already been arranged for island hopping, and then that there would be a storm the next day (which turned out to be perfectly calm). I suggest the hotel improve its island hopping service. For those looking to dive, definitely don't consider this hotel! Also, the beach is incredibly tiny, barely palm-sized!

I had an amazing experience at this hotel. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, expect the toilet is sharing and it's very dirty!. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with anything I needed. The location was perfect, and the view from my room was absolutely stunning — one of the highlights of my stay. Everything about this hotel felt high-quality, and I would definitely come back again. Highly recommend!

The location is great, very close to Imago Mall, then Suria Sabah Shopping Mall, and a bit further is the duty-free shop. It's about a ten-minute walk to the new pier, and Gaya Street is right behind it. Some other reviews mentioned poor soundproofing, but this is mainly due to external factors like modified motorcycle exhausts and traffic noise since the hotel is facing the street. I stayed here for one night as a transit stop after returning from Mount Kinabalu. I wore noise-canceling earplugs to sleep, so it didn't really affect me. The price was 220 for a twin room without breakfast, which might be a bit high for Southeast Asia. On the plus side, they offer free luggage storage. Overall, it's a pretty good place.

Excellent stay, was abit worried after reading some of the reviews, but the villas and the area looks exactly like the pictures show online. 4 star hotel in a 5 star location. Rooms always clean with fresh towels etc after we came back from our trips, and staff were friendly and accommodating. We only gave 3 stars for service because prices changed at the hotel for things like the private taxi back to shore, and the price for cooking seafood that we had bought from fishermen passing the hotel. The private taxi price at the shore at the Sky Water Reception (around 300) was less than the price quoted at the actual hotel (540 - both prices are much higher than the prices quoted online). But otherwise a great stay, location and staff. Some parts of the hotel need a bit of upkeep (wooden railings having come off, for example), but this wasent a big deal to us, didn’t care. Enjoyed the food provided but I would recommend getting to dinner on time as the food provided is the only food available at the hotel - we seperately brought our own snacks and beers. We also did the Package A and Package C trips which were fantastic. Package A is more island hopping (with the hike) and water activities on the side (scuba diving etc), whereas Package C is very much a water activity orientated - so if you’re keen for scuba diving definitely pick Package C. You also visit islands on that trip. Overall very happy 😃

The place is beautiful. The ocean and the beach are amazing. The hotel is seafront, a few steps and you’re swimming in the ocean. The rooms needs a lot of maintenance and deep cleaning, our room had many things need to be repair so, they gave us upgrade to a huge wood villa with 2 floors. The restaurant is ok… but no delicious. Breakfast is not so good but they prepare eggs as you like. The hotel needs dee cleaning and a lot of maintenance. They have places looks like abandoned.

All good! We chose a room with plenty of single beds. There were 5 beds, haha, perfect for families, friends, or even a honeymoon. The room was really spacious too. Just a heads-up about the water heater, you can't adjust the temperature; the water gets super hot! You have to mix in cold water to get it lukewarm. Overall, it was great. There's a kettle and a water dispenser right outside the room door. And the views? Right at Mount Kinabalu itself!
