Tokyo Station | A Benchmark of Urban Architecture

Tokyo Station is hailed as Tokyo's 'front entrance' and is located in the heart of the Marunouchi business district in Chiyoda Ward. It is a complex station with platforms on two levels. It is not only the most important starting station for Japan's nationwide Shinkansen network (except for the Kyushu Shinkansen), but also the starting point for major Japanese railway lines such as the Tokaido Main Line, the Chuo Main Line, and the Tohoku Main Line. From here, direct access is available to 32 prefectures, with about 3,000 train services departing daily, making it one of Japan's most representative main railway stations. If you visit Tokyo, you will almost certainly pass through Tokyo Station. You will see many old Western-style buildings. It has the largest number of platforms in all of Japan and is an important gateway to Tokyo. The Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station was designed by Tatsuno Kingo, an architect from the Meiji era, as a Western-style brick building. It was completed and opened in 1914 and is a must-visit attraction for tourists. It has three entrances and exits: Marunouchi, Yaesu, and Nihonbashi, and is one of the earliest station buildings to be used. Especially at night, when the lights are on, the combination of this century-old building with modern skyscrapers gives a sense of traveling through time and is very dreamy.
