The receptionist noticed the slight bleeding on my finger, voluntarily offered bandaid and disinfect solution, very helpful. The shuttle service between the hotel and the train station is very useful. Wish I had known about it before we arrived.

This was my first time using this hotel. There is a welcome drink in the lobby, and if you need loungewear, you can take one from the area next to the lobby. There are no convenience stores nearby. The station is right in front of the hotel, so there might be one on the station side. You can hear the voices and noises in the hallway quite a bit. On the other hand, the noises outside don't bother me. The refrigerator is very cold. Free breakfast is included. It's free, and yet so good! I was more than satisfied! They even have a daily smoothie. I hope they keep it up.

Overall experience only so so average……. I don’t expect such a huge hotel giant - Marriott Group has these shortfalls ! Let’s talk about the suggested improvements on facilities provided by hotel:  1) parking facilities - there is no accessible ramps or pavements for customers taking their heavy luggage from the parking areas - the only thing that we can do was to carry these luggages up the staircases to the hotel lobby from the parking area. 2) hotel entrance lay-by - it was raining heavily when I checked out today. I planned to drive my car to the hotel entrance so that my family members can jump into the car and I can load all my luggages to the trunk under the canopy of the hotel entrance. “Luckily”, the canopy is too short and has no such design and finally everybody got into the car and they were ALL WET. I have to load those luggages to the car under the rain…… 3) Onsen (public bath) - nothing to say about this old, obsolete, small public bath without maintanance. 4) staff - I’d say, with the “name” of Marriott, this hotel is really under staff…… Other - nothing to say really

We stayed two nights in the hotel with breakfast and dinner. The web page of Trip.com showed that there was onsen in the hotel but when we check in, we were told that it was a ”mistake”. There is no onsen and the photo is a public onsen half an hours away. It was very disappoining that the Trip.com include photos irrelevant to the hotel. Dinner was also diffferent from the web photo. We have to pay 2500 yen each to upgrade the dinner to shsbu shabu. Breakfast is Japanese style with limited choice. Other than these, we had lake view room and shopping mall is nearby which are the advantages.

This is a ryokan near Lake Biwa. They were always kind to me! The open-air hot spring was also really nice. There was a shuttle bus so it was convenient to go to the station. It was the best experience 😀

I stayed here again this year, just like last year. While the room was a little dated, it was kept clean and not unpleasant. (Although there was a slight odor...) The bath was spacious and there was a washing area, so I was able to take my time soaking. The refrigerator was stocked with tea (apparently local tea), mineral water, and one Ritz per night, which was a nice touch. The breakfast was delicious, featuring local ingredients. I would definitely stay here again if I had the opportunity.

Japanese version of the full season, the room is relatively large, you can see Hikone Castle, 100 meters away from the JR station, the price is very high, the breakfast is average, optional meals are included, there is a super large store across the road, the second floor taxfree has a variety of cosmetics Clothing and local products, the underground supermarket is large and you can buy all kinds of lunch boxes, with a microwave and dining area. Hikone is so cute, Hikone Castle is so so

AAnonymous UserIt was a great stay at this ryokan! The hotel is able to arrange a car to fetch you from the JR station. You can call them using a dedicated phone at the station which is used to contact the different ryokans. The car arrived in 10mins or so. The ride to the ryokan was also less than 10mins. The hotel also fetched us to the station on the last day of our stay. The ryokan itself is homely and cozy. We were greeted by an english speaking staff who introduced us to the amenities of the ryokan. There was also a nice welcome tea and matcha chocolate. Our bags were brought to our room as well during this time. The room is spacious and cozy. The hotel prepared 2 welcome biscuits in the room which was a nice personal touch. The room has a nice living room and a great view of Lake Biwa. Recommend to catch the sunrise over the lake! There are 2 normal beds as well as futon beds (need to set up yourself). Both are comfortable. The hotel also prepared pretty yukata for both female and male guests which you can wear during the stay. There are 4 different designs for ladies, and one design for the guys. You can request for different size if the one in the room doesn’t fit you. There is also a full length mirror and a mini dressing area at the side of the living room. It was fun dressing up in the yukata! The toilet, basin, shower and hot tub areas are all separate. The toilet is a little small, but the basin and mirror area is very spacious. The shower area is quite small as well and the shower head is rather low so you need to hold the shower head if you wish to wash up while standing. There is a small stool given for you to sit down though. The hot tub area is semi-outdoor and you can see Lake Biwa. But it is quite small (only good for one person). It was too cold so we didn’t use the hot tub. Instead, we booked the private onsen for 50mins. The private onsen has a private toilet and dressing area which is equipped with hairdryer, body lotion etc. There is a water dispenser as well if you need to hydrate yourself. The onsen area has a washing area, and the hot tub area is spacious for 2 person. There are privacy screens around the onsen area but there is a small gap to let in cold air for ventilation. Wish there is a good view from the private onsen but it was still enjoyable! Dinner and breakfast was Kaiseki style, and the meals were one of the highlights for my husband and I. We really enjoyed the courses which are clean tasting yet wholesome, fresh and flavourful. It was such a sumptuous treat! The ryokan also has a souvenir shop if you wish to buy anything back. Overall, my husband and I really enjoyed the stay here and we agreed this was one of the main highlights of our 12 days trip in Japan. Highly recommend!

RRoger MichaelOk. First of all leave your expectations at home expecting hotel level service. Once you've done that if you want a cheap but clean place to stay this is it. This is a seinenkan - a facility for youth and youth-related organizations to conduct independent study and recreational activities, many of which have basic accommodation facilities but higher grade facilities than youth hostels. They are located all over Japan. I stayed in a tatami mat room on a floor with shared toilet facilities. The ground floor has a large communal bath - obviously separate for male and females. They have lights out at 11 p.m. and guests must return by the same time. There is a very modern cafe onsite serving cheap breakfasts (see photos) but the cafe closes by 6 p.m. There is a convenience store 10 minutes walk away so I suggest you buy snacks and beverages en route from JR Ishiyama station. For dinner, there is a family restaurant - good value and okay food - about 6 minutes walk away. The seinenkan is located on a small island by a historic bridge. The views of the river inlet flowing into the main Lake Biwa is relaxing, lots of bird wildlife, and lots of rowers (the seinenkan is a water sports facility too). and the sunrise and sunset views are lovely. The staff are very kind. It cost me ¥5,500 for one night and I will stay there again if I have the opportunity.

RREFTZ**Breathtaking Views** The hotel offers stunning views of Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest freshwater lake. My room featured panoramic vistas of the tranquil waters and surrounding mountains, especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset. **Comfortable Accommodations** The spacious accommodations blended traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern comforts. The cozy futon bedding ensured a restful night’s sleep, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. **Delicious Dining Options** Dining was a highlight, with a breakfast buffet that included a delightful mix of Japanese and Western dishes, emphasizing local ingredients. Fresh seafood and seasonal fruits made each meal enjoyable. **Excellent Location and Amenities** Located in Otsu, the hotel is perfectly situated for exploring the area. It offers free parking for guests and complimentary bike rentals, making it easy to explore the scenic lakeside paths and nearby attractions. The staff were incredibly helpful, providing recommendations for local sights, such as the historic Enryaku-ji Temple. Lake Biwa Hotel is a fantastic choice for a peaceful getaway. With stunning views, comfortable accommodations, and great amenities, I highly recommend it for a relaxing escape.

TthewandercuratorAfter a crowded Kyoto, I love the peaceful and tranquil environment of this beautiful onsen hotel-ryokan and charming castle town. Everything about the hotel speaks of relaxation and well-being. It's only a 7-8min walk away from Hikone Train Station but there is a hotel shuttle that leaves at 9, 10 and 11 am if you need a drop off. Pick up could probably be arranged too. The hotel offers a pretty outdoor terrace with Castle view, an on-site spa with massage, a library lounge with free drinks till 10pm, a foot reflex corner and a compact onsen with a silk bath (all with Castle view) and hot stone benches. I had the whole onsen to myself in the evening, so it was very relaxing. The staff are kind and lovely too, making an effort to explain all the services and amenities in English. The buffet breakfast was also one of the better ones I've seen in my trips to Japan. If you're visiting the Castle, the entrance road is right outside the hotel. The main castle road is about 5-10 min away but you will pass by a famous Japanese confectionery, Taneya and Club Harie. Their souvenirs are one that even the Japanese cherish. I would wish to come here again with my partner one day. Thank you for the wonderful stay.

MMelonimoniWe didn't know that this is a love hotel and only realised it the day before checking in, as the check in is only from 6pm. The room is very spacious and we didn't mind the ****, condoms and lots of beauty products it came with. :D However, I didn't know that hotel rooms in Japan can allow smoking, so the strong cigarette smell in the room was very off putting. We put up a 'do not disturb' sign because we don't need cleaning daily. The second day I noticed some of the **** from the hotel were gone in our room but the room wasn't made (bed wasn't made, trash not emptied). I asked the staff and they said they removed it because they thought it bothered us. This was a bit weird to me, I'm not sure where they got the idea from and I don't know why they entered the room. It's also important to note that the train only runs once per hour most of the day (during some hours twice).

AArt of MomentsThis isn’t our first stay at a Vessel Inn, and it likely won’t be the last. They’ve become a safe, reliable choice for us whenever we travel around Japan. The room at Vessel Inn Shiga Moriyama was exactly what we expected—clean, well-maintained, and equipped with the standard amenities and toiletries we’ve come to appreciate. We didn’t get a chance to use the hotel facilities this time, so can’t comment on those. Our main concern is always the cleanliness of the bed and overall comfort, and we’re glad to say it passed with flying colors. No funky surprises, just a peaceful night’s rest. One thing that stood out: the room size felt more spacious than what we’re used to in places like Osaka. Definitely a plus when you’ve got luggage or just want to breathe a little easier. All in all, a solid stay that gave us what we needed—nothing fancy, but exactly right.
