While the original, enormous celebration taking place in Munich has to be front and centre in any Oktoberfest discussion, we have several other beer-and-bratwurst events for you to consider as well. Below, we have 6 of the best Oktoberfest 2022 events in the UK and Europe to shout about..

Oh, and it goes without saying any alcohol consumption should be responsible, and be undertaken by those over the age of 18 (or the legal drinking age in your country).

Got all that? Then do read on to find out about some Oktoberfest 2022 celebrations in Europe…

September 17 to October 3

The big one, the main event, the celebration after all other celebrations are named. And after a 2-year hiatus due to the pandemic, it's finally time - the original Oktoberfest is back.

Quick history lesson: when Crown Prince Ludwig wanted to celebrate his marriage to Princess Therese in 1810, he chose a grassy field just outside Munich's city gates. Later renamed 'Theresa's Meadow', the fairground is now the site for the original, world's largest Oktoberfest celebrations. Each year from late September to the first weekend in October, 6 million people gather to drink nearly 7.7 million litres of beer. In short - it's quite the event…

Many German brewers sponsor the large pavilions, which are filled with long wooden benches, a raised bandstand, and of course copious amounts of pretzels and bratwurst. Servers might carry up to 20 litres of beer at a time, all while weaving past hoards of 'jolly' visitors, all to the tune of some classic oompa tunes performed live. There are even rides and games, too.

Really, if you've never been to Oktoberfest (and of course you are a fan of beer and Bavaria), then it should be on your list. Be sure to book your trip with us…

October 20 to November 5

Those who know the Brits will know that they're always down for a celebration - if it involves sitting on long benches in giant tents and 'sipping' a beer, you can be sure it'll be especially fun. The English capital is going to embrace all things German this autumn with its own take on the Oktoberfest tradition, and it will surely be a ruddy good jape.

Taking place later in the month than its Bavarian namesake, London Oktoberfest 2022 - now in its 11th year - will be a fantastic homage to the Munich original. At the time of writing, the venues are still to be confirmed, so be sure to check out the London Oktoberfest website to keep up-to-date with all the happenings.

Spread across three weeks, with all the beer and bratwurst you could desire, this is a great way to celebrate Oktoberfest 2022. Check it out.

October 6 to October 9

A Bavarian extravaganza in beautiful Edinburgh? That sounds like a recipe for a fantastic time to us. Located at the West Princess Street Gardens, this four-day event takes place over 5 sessions - and it will likely be very popular, so be sure to get your tickets ASAP (incidentally, general admission costs between £5 and £15, with other options available, which seems very reasonable to us).

Launched in 2013, you can look forward to the usual array of food and drink - beer, schnitzel, pretzels and the like - as well as Bavarian music in the form of traditional oompa, and, of course, a veritable wealth of lederhosen.

So why not make the jaunt to Scotland with your friends, loved ones, or (if you're really brave) colleagues to raise a glass or two?

September 7 to October 3

If you want the full Germanic experience of Oktoberfest but want a (very slightly) less crazy affair, then we heartily recommend a brilliant alternative - but still within the land of beer and bratwurst.

Another event that has been on a 2-year hiatus, the good people organising Oktoberfest Frankfurt are keen to get the celebrations up and running once again. Almost a full month of it, in fact, as it runs from September 7 to October 3. There will be a whole heap of music and fun to keep you entertained.

If you want all the traditions of Oktoberfest with a greater number of locals and fewer tourists, this is the event for you. You can even rent your lederhosen at the event to truly immerse yourself in Oktoberfest tradition…

October 5 to October 16

Barcelona is not necessarily the first place you'd think of when it comes to celebrating Oktoberfest - but the Catalan capital is always a worthy visit, and so we are very much in favour of such an event being held there.

The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday October 5 at 5pm in the main tent - and then, with the first barrel of beer cracked open, Oktoberfest Barcelona shall begin. Twelve days of partying and fun, from 5pm to late - sounds fun to us.

What else is in store? Well aside from the massive range of food, live music and, of course, beer - how about a Bavarian costume contest? Lederhosen in Catalonia. What a combination.

Top tip: book your table ahead of the event to ensure your place at Oktoberfest Barcelona 2022.

October 13 to October 16

Those of you familiar with Manchester will know just how awesome it is. Chock full of fun things to do and places to go, it's no surprise that the Northern English city has embraced the Oktoberfest 2022 philosophy (if it is a philosophy - we're going with it).

Launched in 2014, the Manchester Oktoberfest is now one of the biggest in the UK. Taking place at Platt Fields Park for 2022, the good people organising the event will set up a giant tent for thousands of people, with live music (naturally) and full Bavarian decoration (of course).

Tickets start from a mere £5 but we recommend shelling out a little more for a good seat, so you can really enjoy the festivities. And naturally, you'll be encouraged to dress up in lederhosen too…
