Stykkishólmur Inn is not just a hotel — it’s the largest artwork in town, where each hallway, room, and corner tells a story of something that almost happened.
Our rooms are cozy, simple, and thoughtfully designed for comfort and curiosity. Whether you’re staying in a small double or a larger room, expect:
Comfortable beds with quality linens
Private bathrooms with modern fixtures and soft lighting
Minimalist Icelandic design with occasional quirky touches
Wall murals and art installations just outside your door, part of the hotel-wide exhibition of “almost-true” history
Each floor features a different near-myth or unrealized dream — from UFO landings to peace summits. The public areas (lounges, hallways, stairwells) are part-gallery, part-time capsule.
You’ll find:
A welcoming lounge with seating and story fragments
Surreal murals inspired by real ideas that nearly happened
Calm, quiet, and clean rooms with personality — never clutter
A feeling that your stay is part of something a little bigger
Whether you're here for a night or a week, you’ll sleep inside a story.
This isn’t just a hotel. It’s a map of Icelandic dreams.
Staying at this hotel on the way back to Reykjavik from the Snæfellsnes Peninsula is a great option, as the surrounding environment is beautiful. The hotel rooms are spacious and clean, the restaurant serves delicious food, and there's a wake-up call at night to remind guests to watch for the Northern Lights. The service is excellent, and we were fortunate enough to see the Northern Lights on the night of our stay – it was truly spectacular.
The car had some problems on the day we checked out, and the landlord asked her husband to help us check the car. It was very cold outside with strong winds, snow and rain. He was worried that we would be cold, so he asked us to wait in the house. He helped us check the car in the wind and snow. When he said the car was repaired and there was no problem, I felt like he was glowing and saved us from the wind and snow. The rooms are independent and have good privacy. I wish the homeowner and his wife peace and good luck. 🌹🌹🌹🍎🍎🍎
It was such a quaint place, but unfortunately all week we were there it was under construction, so noise from hammering and drilling was very annoying since this was booked specifically for meditation and writing of my book.
Very satisfied with a stay. We chose this hotel’s cabin, which is about 50-100 meters away from the sea, with the glass door facing the black mountain in front. It's about a distance from the front desk, but you can park in front of the door. There are 5 cabins connected. Because we have two people staying together, the front desk specially left us two relatively adjacent cabins. This night’s stay was great. The cabin was not special in appearance, but it was well equipped with kitchen equipment, dining table and sofa, and the bathroom was also great. There are also very good heating facilities, which can be switched on and off at any time. That night we cooked dinner in our room and went to the open-air hot spring pool outside the hotel. We could also make free hot chocolate in the lobby. We went to the beach to watch a perfect sunset at 10:30 in the evening.
The place was great, good location, amazing view from the room, delicious food at the restaurant. The only disappointment was the shower, which was really average. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay there!
The hotel room is as cool and clean as other hotels in Iceland. Because there are no street lights, it is very suitable for photographing the aurora. I just don’t know why I was given a room at the farthest end.
We added bed linens with additional charges but then we need to install it ourselves. We are already tired travel from far and setting the bedlinen ourselves is unacceptable.
For the men's shared bathroom( not the toilet), the floor is full of dirt, without slippers it is very bad experience. I was showering with naked feet because I only travel with shoes. As there's a short distance from room to the bathroom that need to step through murt, other traveller slippers also became dirty and just walk into shower area with slippers on.
There's plenty of space for shared kitchen which is awesome, but the auto door lock made it very inconvenient for a single person that is in middle of cooking and need to open door for partner, because 1 room is only given with 1 set of keys.
I did not expect that the full windowed view of waterfall is only for ordering meal, oherwise I would rather spend 1 meal there for the scenery, sadly I missed the awesome breakfast.
Excellent! The staff were wonderful and communication was seamless. The views are stunning, and it's conveniently located for exploring other attractions. The amenities are excellent, the beds are comfortable, and our family had a wonderful time here.
Great experience. Hotel room is clean and with a view over the famous black church, as shown in the picture attached. Staff are friendly and approachable. Sadly we didn’t to catch the northern light here as it was raining and cloudy during our stay.

NNo_return_dateVery helpful staff and the bed is really comfortable. The common areas are a bit dated and the bathroom is a problem in that the position of the sink makes it hard to use and the shower floods the bathroom unless you built a towel wall to contain the water to the shower but then you have sopping wet towels to deal with. The shower setup is the kind of thing you have to put up with in India and other 3rd world countries. This place is not close to any grocery stores so you have limited food options. I had the dinner buffet which was good but fairly expensive.
SSobolevAlexanderComfortable location. Very clean and neat. View to the sea (but it is not close, or to the mountains). Breakfast is very modest - bread, cheese, ham, cooked egg. Breakfast is not available. The common shower is combined with the toilet - one for 4 rooms.
GGuest UserQuiet and clean hotel with lots of facilities which allow guests to enjoy. We arrived at the hotel late (after 9pm) and the hotel restaurant was still able to serve us food that was way beyond our expectations - the waitress was extremely kind and helpful. We were also able to catch the northern lights which was a pleasant surprise considering the time of the year (August). Overall, we are very pleased with our stay here.
DDWUThe hotel is located right next to the Stykkishólmskirkja Church, and around 10-15mins walk to the city centre/ferry terminal. It is a convenient stop for us travelling from the north to the west side of Iceland. The hotel room has a nice view. Basic amenities are available. The shower room is only separated from the toilet by a ‘moveable’ glass and water might spill elsewhere when you shower. Overall a decent stay.

DDahaoqiuqiuFacilities: Very user-friendly place, convenient parking
Hygienic: Super clean and the bed is very comfortable! ! The important thing is! The breakfast wife wife is delicious! ! Must have breakfast! Don't be deceived by his unremarkable appearance! Hate yourself can't live one more day! Every day I go home is missing the degree!
Service: We went late, but the little brother at the front desk was very good and the communication was very smooth! Have a wonderful day on the peninsula

KKarincute place, everything is very DIY, we havent't met anyone from the hotel until the next morning. apparently you get a code to open the door by email but we spoke to a few guests and none of them had received it, so you'll need to be able to make a phonecall to reach the owners to get the code to get in...
HHoEugeneEasy self-check in, which was great for us because we reached near 11pm. Beds were comfortable, heating was good. Best part was breakfast. Shared kitchen was well stocked with pans, eggs, milk, salami, oil, sauces, for cooking. Had a satisfying breakfast complete with coffee, juices and yogurt.
