Beautiful hotel with Mountain Views. The hotel looks spectacular and is very clean. The room is very spacious. Location is perfect as it shares the same building as the mall. You can use the lift which brings you directly to the mall. The mall has shops like Uniqlo, ABC Mart and many more, including a food court with various food options. There are 3 washing machines in both the male & female public onsen area, however it is pretty difficult to get a chance to wash your clothes. The hotel seems like a popular wedding venue, however it does not disrupt the stay as the guests do not seem to linger in the lobby at all. There's a Nescafé coffee machine which you can help yourself to outside the public onsen, along with Kumamoto's fresh spring water tap for drinking. For parking, please avoid the carpark infront of the mall as it is expensive. If you're facing the mall, the hotel's carpark is at the left side basement of the mall. The hotel provides a discounted price at off-peak periods. It's best to leave your hotel before 12 noon. It is paid parking and there's a ticket machine at the basement entrance of the hotel. The hotel location is perfect as it is also very close to a station.
Service: friendly staff assisting us with the use of self check-in machine, and providing us with a room with wonderful room.
Amenities: take what you want and need among the amenities provided near the reception area. Facial mask provided as well.
Facilities: there is a microwave located on every floor at the lift area. About 4 washing machines with dryer located at level 1
Location: fantastic with Shimotori just a few steps away from it. 7-11 and McDonald’s at the entrance of the walking street. Further up there is Cocosa Shopping Mall and with a supermarket at its basement. Found this place more interesting than Sakura Machi. However most shops closed fairly early at around 8pm.
Parking: though the hotel does not provided parking, we managed to park at the nearby building with coupon carpark (1 min walk) which is affiliated to the hotel (paid JPY1200 for overnight parking between 3pm to 11am). Remember to obtain the JPY200 discount coupon from the staff for your carpark payment.
Pros:
1. The location is super convenient, right next to the bus terminal and a shopping street, easy to find along the road.
2. The room layout is incredibly well-designed. It has high ceilings, a perfectly square shape, and the bed is against the wall, facing a large, openable window. There's a good distance from the building opposite, making for excellent space planning. Anyone who frequently stays in Japanese hotels will understand what I mean – this is a big plus!
3. The hotel clearly follows traditional hotel procedures, which are very detailed. The staff provided service with a smile, and there was a local Japanese staff member who, despite speaking broken Mandarin, genuinely tried to offer Chinese service, which was really impressive.
4. The room was very clean, free of any odd smells or noise, and the bedding was super comfortable. I finally got a good night's sleep on my last night in Kumamoto.
Cons:
1. I have to complain about the washbasin; it's too small. It's difficult for anyone with a lot of cosmetics to spread them out, and items tend to fall off easily.
Initially, looking at the hotel pictures and the lobby, I thought it was an old hotel and didn't have high expectations, especially thinking a small room might not be great. But it turned out to be really good! I had stayed at another hotel previously, and this one is significantly better by comparison. I'll definitely stay here again next time.
Hotel room is same as the pictures that display on the app/website. Staff are friendly and polite. There is an onsite parking but you need to pay. The breakfast is good! I like the cakes! It's yummy! Walking distance to the castle and shopping area. A good place to stay!
The room was great! The luxury floor offers complimentary instant noodles and drinks, perfect for a late-night snack. It's very close to Kumamoto Station, just a 3-minute walk to the left after exiting. There's a Big C next door, though not very big, and across the street is Amu, which pretty much covers all your shopping and dining needs. There's also a large supermarket on the first floor of the mall, which is a great bonus.
Service: English service was available, making communication smooth and clear. The front desk staff were professional.
Environment: The location is excellent. There's a bus stop right downstairs, it's easy to hail a taxi, and there are supermarkets, Kumamoto souvenir shops, restaurants, and convenience stores nearby – very convenient. There's also a pedestrian street in the vicinity, and the room offers a view of Kumamoto Castle.
Hygiene: Overall, it was good. Even when 'Do Not Disturb' was selected, fresh towels were still left hanging on the door. However, we found a pair of slippers under the bed that weren't ours, likely left by a previous guest.
The location is superb. After arriving at Kumamoto Airport, you can take the airport bus to 'Kamitori' and the hotel is right there. It's in the heart of Kumamoto city, directly opposite a classic department store with Kumamoto-themed products, perfect for shopping. The tram stop is just a short walk away, offering easy access to the JR station and various attractions. The commercial pedestrian street is right next door, making it incredibly convenient for finding food every day.
From my room window, I could see Kumamoto Castle. The room was clean, and I was especially pleased with the separate wet and dry areas in the bathroom. Although the hotel is a bit old, the rooms have been renovated, and the air conditioning is very powerful. Upon entering the room, there was a faint scent of disinfectant, which made me feel very assured about the cleanliness – typical of an established Japanese brand. You can tell the hallway carpets are old, but there was no musty smell, so I was satisfied with the hygiene.
Next time I visit Kumamoto, I'll definitely stay here again. It's just too convenient!
Booked this hotel last minute and it was surprisingly cheap, definitely worth the price. The only downside is there's no parking. I wasn't feeling well that day and just parked across the street, which ended up costing me 1300 JPY for 12 hours. Turns out, if I had looked around a bit more, there were plenty of spots nearby for 500-600 JPY for the same duration.
The hotel employees all of them were showed a good attitude and communication was no problem for foreigners.
The location is great — it’s close to Kumamoto Castle, and there’s a shopping mall just about a 10-minute walk away.
I made a reservation for a triple room for two nights. The sofa bed was uncomfortable, and the air conditioner could not adjust the airflow direction, which caused us to catch a cold.
One more thing, the room key had to be returned and kept at the counter whenever we went out for the day.
The best value for money I spent in Kumamoto! I booked a twin room with a river view.
**Ambiance:** The view is absolutely unbeatable, with two glass walls directly overlooking the river.
**Facilities:** I loved the cool gray tones. Everything was very clean, and the facilities were quite new. The twin beds can be pushed together, which is great for families with small children. The toiletries were a DHC set, and the shampoo was incredibly refreshing and made my hair feel fluffy.
**Cleanliness:** Very clean. The sheets and duvet covers were fresh and not damp at all.

AAnonymous UserHotel is in a pretty good location. Close to kumamoto JR station by Tram and walkable distance to the sakuramachi bus terminal/mall (5min). Serviable by both red and blue tram lines as well.
Room is slightly bigger than the usual japanese business hotel. Pricewise was really affordable as well ($40+ sgd/night 1 pax).
The hotel provides room cleaning for concurrent 3 days stay I believe (no daily cleaning, only change of towels), but you will need to pass the keycard/key tothe front desk on the day of the cleaning. And then retrieve the key back when come back to the hotel after the cleaning.
No microwave in room, you need to go down to the lobby to use the only microwave in the hotel. Otherwise the hotel is a cheap and good stay.
CClaudia ChoyThe facilities and cleanliness of this hotel are very good. Especially in terms of food, we have all-you-can-eat long-legged crabs, which makes us feel so satisfied. The drinks are also unlimited. The hotel' private bath are very comfortable.

DDamagulaishengxianjiejimoThe room was smaller than expected, and the design felt quite impractical. There's a partition right after the door that makes the entrance incredibly narrow. One person in our group uses a wheelchair, and we couldn't even get it into the room. I was also pretty unhappy with the front desk staff's attitude.
At check-in, we were told breakfast had strict time slots and was limited to just forty minutes. We chose the 7:00-7:40 slot, but the front desk told me there were no tables left and insisted we eat breakfast in two separate sittings. How can a group on the same itinerary eat at different times? That's completely unreasonable. If they have such rules, they should make them clear before booking, not spring them on us at check-in. I really don't understand this hotel's logic. If they don't have enough seating, they should improve their capacity, not restrict guests' dining times. People stay at hotels for their own convenience, not to accommodate the hotel's schedule. I'm fluent in Japanese, and while I was arguing with a foreign front desk staff member about this, the Japanese staff next to her didn't say a word. It felt like they were pushing the non-Japanese staff out to take the heat.
On the positive side, the location is very convenient, right next to the shopping street. Other than breakfast, everything else was satisfactory. Oh, and the breakfast itself was actually very mediocre. You'd get tired of it after just one day.
EEntitiOverall, very satisfied.
This hotel is part of the same group as Sanmizuki and Shinmeikan.
Sanmizuki is adjacent to Fukayama Sanso, located halfway up a mountain at the source of the hot spring. Guests can enjoy free access to the forest hot spring at Sanmizuki. The hot spring quality is superb, with abundant foam.
The hotel provides free shuttle service. Before arriving, we contacted Ctrip to arrange for the hotel to pick us up from the bus station. The next day, we wanted to go to the Hirano Observatory. After gesturing at the front desk for a while, the hotel drove us there directly – a 10-minute drive! Walking would have taken an hour, thank you!
Additionally, the front desk helped us book return bus tickets at check-in (there aren't many buses from Kurokawa Onsen to Fukuoka/Kumamoto each day, so booking in advance is essential to avoid missing out!). This was very helpful.
The food was much more varied than at the neighboring Sanmizuki. The first night was kaiseki cuisine, and the second night was tomato and pork hot pot. Breakfast was different on both days, and the second day's meal included a complimentary drink. I recommend trying the perilla juice – it's delicious!
The room, although it's a 10-year-old hotel, is much newer than the neighboring Shanshuimu Hotel. The room facilities were okay; the bathroom had a slight odor on the first day, which the staff quickly fixed. However, the hairdryer was too old! Hopefully, they can replace it with a new one.
AAlbina LiubitskaiaAn absolutely wonderful experience. The staff at the ryokan were incredibly polite and always ready to help with anything we needed. Upon check-in, we were provided with traditional attire, pajamas, tabi slippers, bath amenities, and a small welcome treat with matcha and coffee. We also asked at the front desk if they could give us a ride to the bus stop after check-out, and they kindly said yes, of course.
Our room was spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated. At first, we were planning to explore several other local onsens, but after experiencing the ones at the ryokan, we felt completely satisfied.
There are separate baths for hotel guests (men’s and women’s), baths open to both guests and visitors (also divided by gender), as well as a private onsen. One of the onsens also has a sauna. The traditional dinner and breakfast were both impressive—delicious and very generous in portion. The surrounding grounds are stunning, perfect for peaceful walks. This ryokan is a bit further from the main cluster of inns, but that was exactly what we wanted—to enjoy quiet walking. At night, our futons were laid out for us, adding to the authentic experience.
The only reason I deducted one star is the very bright green light on the ceiling that stays on all night and can’t be turned off or covered. I didn’t have a sleep mask with me, and the ryokan didn’t provide one, so I had a sleepless night. It was quite unpleasant. That said, I still highly recommend this ryokan—it’s an unforgettable place to stay.

LLei,taoOverall, a fantastic stay! I really appreciated the complimentary drinks and the spacious bathtub in the room. The service was excellent, and I'll definitely be returning for another visit. My only minor critique is that the location isn't the most convenient, but despite that, I found the overall experience to be very satisfactory.
