Anantaya Resort and Spa Passikudah
4.4/542 Reviews
We stayed at Anantaya from 22nd - 23rd Dec as a part of our honeymoon tour in Passikudah. It’s an insta worthy place, specially the pool area. Pool was amazing.. we really enjoyed the large pool and our ocean and pool view room was just perfect. We loved the bedding.. it was so cozy.. we enjoyed a cup of tea in the evening at the. balcony with that amazing view. Room service and housekeeping staff were very helpful to us during the stay with all of our requests. The front office team was very welcoming and friendly. Everyone was adhering to the health and safety standards. The food was alright but some improvements wouldn’t hurt. It would have been better if the breakfast buffet had a better choice.. However, upon request the chef made us a delicious omelet for breakfast and we enjoyed a lot.. special thank you to the Chef! Since we were on half board we wanted to have lunch on the 23rd Dec from the hotel itself. When we went to check that with the restaurant staff, there were two staff members and one was on the mobile (probably the restaurant manager based on the conversation he was having on the phone) and the other was assisting him with the call. So we waited a little assuming someone would attend to us. Since it was taking longer than we thought, we tried signalling them that we wanted to speak to one of them but even after seeing us they ignored. We gave up on the idea of having lunch at the hotel and proceeded to checkout. When we were leaving that person who was on the phone came to speak with us but by that time we’ve decided elsewhere for lunch. Apart from this minute incident, overall our experience with Anantaya Passikudah was good!

Laya Waves

We have been to Laya Waves in the last week of February 2021. Our 3-day stay was a delightful experience. Staff was friendly and polite. Food was awesome. Please don't expect to see a huge spread in the buffet but you wouldn't feel a lack as everything's deliciously prepared. Tip: Try the pancakes! Rooms and washrooms are very clean, well-maintained. If you're a dog lover, there's a gang in the beach in front. Plan on some extra snacks/biscuit for them may be :) . Sunrise is a must-see. You'll definitely enjoy a walk along the moon-lit beach after dinner. Overall quality of service and food is excellent. Kudos to SL Army as it's managed by them.
Karpaha Sands

The hotel looks very primising in the pictures, beautiful setting and facilities. Unfortunately we were a bit disqppointed on the way it is managed. It looks like the place is abandoned relying on its own structure and pictures. Pros: - beautiful setting and location, in front of a beautiful beach. - rooms are well done, big bathrooms, nice outdoor area. - faclities have a beautiful decoration, the bar, the restaurant. Cons: - cleaning! The resort has a cleaning issue. To the point that we wrote ”clean me” with our fingers on the restaurant toilet mirror, and it was there during our entire stay. Nothing has regular cleaning, spots everywhere, toilets are terrible specialy the poil toilet (see pictures). - bar drinks are not good. We tried many drinks and juices in all the hotels we stayed in Sri Lanka, and this one we had to give up, drink after drink, juice after juice, were not good at all. Also the drink glasse come very very dirty. - bar is beautiful but never had any music during our stay. Its a silent empty place, no one uses it... and the bartender usualy is not there which makes it a ghost place. - service is welcoming but not prepared. For example before you reach the breakfast area upstairs they ask you: ”what do you want for breakfast? So i dont have to go upstairs to ask”, overall staff is tired, not motivated and have no training, they are as abandoned as the hotel. - spa was closed during our entire stay, because the lady had days off. So we booked a hotel with a Spa that did not exist...you have to be lucky not to book on her days off. - when at check-out i tried to tell them the place have lots of potential but they need to pay attention to this details they just replied: thank you for your stay, please make us a review on tripadvisor! So they just don't pay attention... which is sad to see. I wish they could change the management and have someone motivated and energic to transform the place into the best hotel in Sri Lanka, because they could be.

Uga Bay by Uga Escapes Colombo
4.8/543 Reviews
A beautiful, fascinating country with lovely people. By way of context, we spent 10 days in Sri Lanka from mid to end May 2022. We are a family of 4 including two girls (10 &11). We had a private driver/guide. The itinerary was Kandy (Amaya Hills), Dambulla, Sigiriya, safari, Polonnaruwa (Aliya Resort) and then a beach break in Kalkudha on the E. coast (Uga Bay). Despite well-publicised economic and political problems, we had no issues. We avoided Colombo (rainy anyway) and our private driver had no serious issues with fuel (as the tourist industry is given priority). We had huge sympathies for the locals though, stuck in long fuel queues and suffering rampant inflation. Hotels were also practically empty. We felt safe throughout and the locals were so friendly. Travel there and support Sri Lanka rather than staying away. We also had no health problems at all and no issues with mosquitoes. A beautiful, fascinating country with lovely people. It was really excellent and deserves that rating. Located on a quiet penninsular with pool and well-manicured garden sweeping down to a wide sandy beach in the middle of a sweeping bay with calm, shallow water where you can walk out 50m. It looked to us that Uga Bay was far better than a the few other resorts further around the bay. Whilst the beach is not private, there was very little activity other than hotel guests and they were few and far between. Nobody pestering you. Plenty of free beach beds and attentive staff with towels. Very tranquile but not much activity for the kids. It annoyed me that the hotel wanted to charge US$ 8 p.h. for a couple of plastic canoes that might have oferred a few hours’ entertainment. No coral/snorkeling outside the hotel but the hotel offers expensive, but very good, boat trips to nearby coral reefs. The main building is low and quite small so blends into the palm trees. It consists of a reception and open air bar area, a small indoor/outdoor restaurant and then upstairs a gym, games room and event room. The rooms are neatly aranged around the well-manicured gardens
