The Griffin Hotel

Attleborough|0.14km from city centre
The host & staff were very polite and engaging. Parking was restricted to small cars, but on street parking was freely available in front of the hotel. I had visited the bar on previous visits to Snetterton Circuit, which was a traditional style of 1970's decor, which I liked. The breakfast was excellent value, with quality items one step up from the high streel economy hotel brands. Plenty of it, with a decent selection of options. The cost of £80 per night for my wife & I was reasonable for a one off stay, but the room was only just wide enough to house the double bed, but had a desk with draws for a few clothes. The bed was comfortable and the pillows sumptuous and clean, but there were a few negatives my wife said I should mention. Now I dont want to sound like a hotel inspector, but the following were obvious oversights.T he first was that the heating was on 24/7 an unable to be controlled in the room, so we had the windows open all the time we were in the room. The outside temperature was about 15 degrees, but using my phone app, the inside more like 25 degrees with the windows shut. The walls were originally decorated with white art ex plaster, which had become stained over its life and the groove in the plaster were dust traps meaning that the cornice areas were full of cobwebs. The paint scheme was in ned of a good clean and make over and the carpet started going threadbare on the stairs from the bar. The toilet needed cleaning round the hinge are of the seat as it was brown and stained. The shower needed a service, as the water control valve was very stiff to operate and the heat control was locked into the 35+ range and could not be switched off. We have a similar shower at home so it was not operator error, probably just scaled up. For me it was acceptable, as I have stayed in much worse, but with a little more due diligence, it should have been a 4* review, never going to get 5* due to the type and age of the property, location and cost. I would not deter anyone staying for a short break, as the host is a nice chap, but any longer than a night or two and the negatives i mentioned above, would annoy me. I hope this gives you an honest overview of our experience. I would probably stay again, as it is convenient for my wife & i to support our son at a Snetterton race weekend.
