Clarion Hotel Conference Center on Lake Erie

Dunkirk|3.51km from ALDI
I have stayed here before for an annual get together with family & friends. It's always been a relatively decent place. The location is really wonderful. This year I could see how much the hotel has aged. It's in need of EXTENSIVE RENOVATIONS and repairs. #1: Exterior of building: the building is looking worn and you can see ripped screens from the outside. The parking lot has spot for the disabled - a ”dip” in the curb but today after a rainstorm, that area had a huge puddle. So where could a person in a wheelchair go? OR those of us who are able bodied - can't roll our suitcases through puddle! So annoying. #2: The back area: while there is a wonderful view of Lake Erie and marina, the grounds outside the hotel are in need of MAJOR landscaping: from overgrowth, to a dried out lawn to cobwebs on the bushes. The concrete is old and there is dirt in some areas where there should be grass. #3: What's up with no pool in the middle of summer? The children in our group were extremely disappointed that the pool was covered. Any attempt at repairs? Or did you just give up? Maybe that's the problem with this hotel. THEY GAVE UP. #4: The vestibule going outside: FILTHY. Worn out carpet - dirty doors and windows. And walking in from outside the door and building have dried dirt and mud on them. Did anyone think about cleaning this up? #5: The hallways: outdated and faded carpet. You could ”see” the odor coming off it. The wallpaper is peeling in some spots. Time to upgrade it. Decor from circa 1995?? Oh and someone was smoking ********* in one of the rooms on our floor and everyone we spoke to could smell it throughout the hotel floor. (I think the guy was eventually kicked out). #6: The room: even though the rooms are non-smoking there was a faint smell of smoke. The rugs, tile, curtains, lamps and furniture were so aged I hated to touch anything. The ceiling looked like there once was a leak that was badly patched up. Oh and during a rainstorm water kept dripping in from outside on the sill. Everything looked so old and ready for an upgrade. It was very grungy. The bathroom sink had a slow drain. The alarm clock on the nightstand had the wrong time!!! I mean....COME ON. It's so bad it's almost laughable. #7 at our event in one of the ballrooms there was a cash bar - with NO CLUB SODA. Hello? A number one ingredient in most mixed drinks and you don't have it? I must say our bartender was extremely apologetic and offered us a substitution. The staff at the hotel was very nice (a little clueless, but nice). #8 Breakfast: very meager and lackluster items. Food was not replenished and staff was not paying attention to that fact. #9: Outdoor event: we had a group outing at the ”tent.” There was supposed to be a barbecue for hot dogs and there was none. They ghosted us. Later when we had our banquet we had meager offerings and the food ran out. They did not replenish and after maybe a 1/2 hour the staff cleaned up th

Best Western Dunkirk Fredonia Inn
3.8/595 Reviews
It’s a decent Best Western. The front desk staff was lovely. They had coffee, hot chocolate, tea, cookies, and lemon water available all day. In the morning they offer a free continental type breakfast. There is a small indoor pool and hot tub right off the lobby. Our room was on the first floor with two double beds and a mini fridge. The hotel is maybe a little dated, but clean and comfortable. It’s tucked away off the street behind an Applebees, but close to I-90 and several fast food places and shopping.
