Nice place with great staff. The whole hotel is peaceful ground covered with tatami. We reserved the private onsen and was satisfied with the amenities. Bfast was a set meal with refillable sides and rice.
Located not too far from beppu station, its just a straight walk all the way.

The room was spacious, and the balcony was also very large with a nice view. The open-air onsen was amazing! The service was excellent. They even had massage devices for body and face. The matcha tea bags were delicious too. I felt a lot of thought went into everything.

After reading other reviews, they were all overwhelmingly positive.
Having stayed in numerous hotels, the ANA InterContinental Beppu definitely ranks in my top three.
First, let's talk about transportation:
Beppu Station is quite small. Remember to exit from the West Exit (this was told to us by the hotel shuttle driver; apparently, many international guests wait for a long time at the East Exit only to find out it's the West Exit). The hotel is about a twenty-minute drive away.
Next, the service:
What was really surprising is that more than half of the hotel staff are non-Japanese. Every single foreign staff member spoke excellent Japanese, with perfect mastery of honorifics.
Finally, the room facilities:
The onsen (hot spring bath) is small but beautiful. The infinity pool isn't very deep, making it suitable for children. It was still a bit chilly in March, but luckily, there's a warm pool nearby where you can soak for a while.
The restaurant offers great value for money. Children aged 6-12 get half price, which is around 2,700 yen. In the evening, there's an all-you-can-drink option for adults at 5,000 yen, including sparkling wine, house wine, shochu, and beer.

The room is very close to the Beppu Kitahama bus stop, making it easily accessible by bus from Oita Airport. Check-in at 3 PM was smooth with the help of friendly staff. The lobby offers a 24-hour beverage machine with coffee, cocoa, and various cold drinks, all free to enjoy – that's a huge plus! The room itself is clean and bright, with a well-equipped kitchen (though the tableware isn't ceramic, which is a bit of a shame). It also includes a washing machine with detergent and a water dispenser. There's a balcony, which is a must-have for longer stays. The rooftop hot spring bath isn't large, but the water quality is excellent. The only drawback is that it's only free to use after 10 PM. A minor downside: the bed corners in the room are a bit sharp and easy to bump into, so be careful. Overall, the stay was excellent. Highly recommended!

The hotel's location is a bit out of the way. The ocean view from the room was okay, I guess. You're required to take off your shoes when entering the hotel, but they don't even provide disposable slippers, so the service is pretty mediocre. The front desk staff also had a very unenthusiastic attitude during check-in. The hotel tries to project an image of being very clean and upscale, but honestly, the cleanliness of the guest rooms was just average; the toilet wasn't even wiped clean and had stains.

This was my second time at Hoshino, and I went with friends. Everything was excellent, from the service and facilities to the environment, cleanliness, and food. The entire building faces Beppu Bay, with a minimalist design that still feels warm. The abundant use of white space, wood, and natural light makes it feel like living in a breathing art museum. The public spaces are very quiet, even when the hotel is full, maintaining the consistent understated elegance of the ”Kai” series.

藤原悠This hotel was absolutely perfect as a base for sightseeing, with excellent access just a 3-minute walk from Beppu Station. The interior is modern Japanese style and very chic. The moment you step into the lobby, you're greeted with a sense of spaciousness that immediately lifts your spirits.
The absolute highlight is the infinity onsen pool (with a tent sauna) and the large public bath on the rooftop. The panoramic views of Beppu city, the sea, and the mountains are simply breathtaking, especially from dusk as the lights come on and the city transforms into a stunning nightscape. It's a luxurious onsen experience, reimagined in a contemporary and stylish setting.
The guest rooms also have a calming, wood-grain design and feel very clean, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Another nice touch was being able to choose our favorite yukata pattern from several options, which really added to the atmosphere and made us feel excited to stroll around the onsen town.

I was very impressed with this ryokan stay. We chose a Family Room, which comfortably accommodated four of us. The room had two air conditioners, keeping it pleasantly cool throughout our stay. The overall atmosphere was warm and peaceful, truly ideal for a relaxing getaway.
The service was also very impressive, especially from the elderly gentleman and the male staff member who gave excellent advice. They were attentive and friendly. The other female staff were also lovely and provided equally great service.
The ryokan also has an onsen for a relaxing soak, and the location is convenient, with easy access to a nearby mall close to Beppu Tower.
Overall, it was a very memorable ryokan experience, and it's a place I'd love to visit again.

I've stayed here before, and this time I brought a friend and booked a larger room. It's a historic inn, but the building and decor don't feel old at all. The Japanese-style room has a really nice vibe, and the smell of the tatami mats is so soothing. The room itself is incredibly spacious; I honestly think three or four people could comfortably stay in that one large tatami room. On the top floor, there's a hot spring with one indoor bath, a small outdoor bath, and a small sauna, all using natural hot spring water. The breakfast selection isn't huge, but all the dishes are local specialties or popular items from Oita Prefecture, so you'll definitely eat well and feel full. The downstairs parking used to be free, but now it costs 700 yen per night.
