The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles

Downtown Los Angeles Los Angeles|2.7km from First Congregational Church of Los Angeles
The Ritz-Carlton Los Angles is one of our most favorite hotels but on our recent trip it was a whole new level for two reasons 1) super sweet upgrade (thanks Bonvoy Ambassador team)and 2) club level access. The Room The Executive Suite is a stunning room. The hotel offers several configurations. Some have a half bath, some offer a connecting room and some are accessible. Regardless of configurations all offer a spacious living/dining room, spectate bedroom, stunning bathroom and killer views. The executive suite is great for couples looking for a bit of extra space (more than a thousand square feet) to spread out, families or those travel on business and need space for work. Club Lounge If you’ve never had the opportunity to experience the Ritz-Carlton Club Level it is an experience to be had. Unfortunately Ritz-Carlton does not offer elite access to the club level so you’ll have to pay for it - Burd it’s worth it. The offerings vary by hotel but this club offers a full hot breakfast, lite lunch mid day, snacks, evening appetizers and desserts, beer and wine all day and evening cocktail service. This is all included in the room rate along with an incredible concierge team. The Hotel The hotel is tranquil, private and offers discrete luxury. Even though the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton share a building the experiences can not be anything farther from each other. From the private lobby, to beautiful rooms, to the well equipped fitness center to the tranquil rooftop pool The Ritz-Carlton Los Angeles does not disappoint.

Hotel Normandie - Los Angeles

Koreatown Los Angeles|1.43km from First Congregational Church of Los Angeles
This hotel is just old- not old and ”quaint” or ”charming”. Except maybe the lobby. Yes- the bones and the original architecture are lovely. Until you look closely. You can see where the old original walls were and where they've chipped away to open it up. The original doors in the rooms would be beautiful had they been taken care of. You can see the wood-color caulk/fill over nails that no one has ever bothered to stain over. You can see where the old handle/lock plates were- no one has bothered to blend them. The original vent in the shower is caked and gross. The furniture is worn and and scratched up. And no- not in a cool, ”rustic” way, just plain worn out. This is what I can't forgive. You can only throw so many layers or paint or caulk or work at old walls or floors etc. But you can certainly replace aging furniture. Between the old, musty smell and the overall poor condition I kept shoes or socks on when in the room. If you are lackluster about taking care of the hard surfaces- what's lurking in that area rug? Just felt ”ick” overall. The amount of money I paid to say here was pretty upsetting. The staff barely cracked a smile at check-in. He just took my ID and started typing. It took a really long time during which he pretty much never spoke- just stared at the screen while we stood there. He smiled when he handed us the keys- and that was it. The other person was the same to the couple next to us. What's funny was some of the other staff was buzzing around and seemed happy and (possibly?) helpful- put some of those people at your desk. No coffee in the room; tea and kettle only. No coffee in the lobby either. You have to go to their hotel restaurant. There is no luggage rack. I wound up putting my suitcase on the long counter where the tea/glasses were. (Shown in the photo). There is a mini-fridge. We did not look at it. The parking is not covered and caddy-corner to the hotel. It does have an attendant. I am adding this because I couldn't find this info. on their website. And they place their Normandie sign inside the lot by the valet tent. Common sense would dictate you put it at the street; not inside the lot. I will say that the beds were comfortable and the linens were very clean. (Never so excited about the smell of bleach.) The bathroom was clean but the surfaces are old- again you can only clean them, caulk, paint in so many layers. The tub and shower fixtures were worn and chipped. At some point you need to replace old and busted with new fixtures that match the period structure. With the price point of this hotel I shouldn't have to second guess taking a shower. We stayed here to be within walking distance to the Wiltern. We would not stay again. Don't get fooled by the glossy marketing photos. I really don't understand the high reviews. I've stayed in many a small, older hotel where you can appreciate the fine details. Even if not perfect they felt cared for. Age is no excuse for worn out furnishings, smel

Breakfast is good, there are fruits to eat, savory cakes to eat, hot water to drink. It's a little far from the city center. It takes more than 20 minutes to walk, which is already good in Los Angeles.

The first time was in March 2015, and this year was the third time in March, the room that was previously booked. Like to live here is the price is acceptable, the room is large and the transportation is convenient. The overall feeling is higher than in 2015, and flat-panel TVs have replaced old-fashioned TVs. The sheets were previously colored, and now the white color gives a clean feeling. It is convenient to arrange a smoking room with a refrigerator, microwave and hot water bottle. The exhaust fan of the bathroom is loud, and the antique air conditioner has a loud sound. The boss is still the boss who is very enthusiastic. The price has risen from 2015, there is no way, the US hotel price is expensive. Convenient transportation around, there are buses nearby, 720 buses are available, Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the west lake (West Lake) subway station. There is a ROSS shop next to the hotel, but you need to go out and bypass the hotel to get to ROSS. ROSS is a discount store, many Americans come here to Taobao.

Clean and very affordable. Also well located: Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the beaches are max. 25 minutes away by Lyft/Uber. Downtown LA just 10 minutes away and LAX is a 30 minute drive. The spacious room has a fridge, tv and comfy beds. Free toiletries and 3 fresh towels every day. Very friendly employees. Free coffee from 7-10 AM. Hotel has an elevator and a parking garage. Smoking is not allowed, only in front of the parking garage. I would def stay here again when visiting LA. Highly recommended!
