GGuest UserSmall and cute place to be. Once you get to the train station or bus stop, give them a call and they will come pick you up. You can walk if you want, but it does go uphill a little bit if you have suitcase with you. Staff is really nice and accommodating. We did have one of our friends ending up pregnant on the trip after we had booked the trip and she was not able to eat many of the foods. They were really nice and worked with what she could eat and even gave her a little omamori (like a charm) for her healthy and safe pregnancy and birth. Would recommend to others. The individual onsen in each room is wonderful and if you want to have more people gather together, get the bigger rooms. Mt. Fuji is visible but understand that it depends on time of day and season. Due to the smaller space, there is only one area to gather downstairs, which is also where you check in. Not a big deal for us, but for those who wants like a whole area to walk around in the hotel, then may want to look at those bigger hotels.

AAVNN HolidayMy stay at this ryokan in Shibu Onsen was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was impeccable. The ryokan features private onsen that can be booked in advance, offering an intimate and serene experience. Soaking in the warm, mineral-rich waters while gazing at the surrounding natural beauty was a highlight of the trip. The ryokan’s free shuttle service made exploring the area incredibly convenient. We were easily transported to the iconic Snow Monkey Park, the nearby train station, and other local attractions, which added to the seamless experience. The dining experience was nothing short of spectacular. Both private breakfast and dinner were served in a tranquil setting, with beautifully prepared dishes showcasing the best of seasonal and local ingredients. The flavors were authentic and delicious,

BBryce van de LaarFrom the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there. The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance. - The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit. - The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning. - After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics. - Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30. - The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want. - The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this. - Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern). We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.

AAnonymous UserIt's a 10 mins walk uphill from train station so maybe better to try to contact them for a complimentary pick up. The place is super grand and 2 onsens. A Instagram worthy one that the males and females get to use it at different timings. The shower stuff in the onsen are mediocre though. No fancy facial stuff for women unlike some other onsens at this price range. We had breakfast and dinner for the 2 nights. And well worth it. But you have to follow a fixed timing and we felt a bit rushed but otherwise it was really great and service perfect. We had one the biggest rooms I believe Room 716. Had a sitting area and also a sleeping area. Easily fits 8 persons. We were only 2. In the day they kept the futons and brought it out at night. Towels changed every night. There is a van that goes straight to Mount Yokoteyama ski resort. The receptionist didn't seem to know about it but you could try to Google. It was a complimentary ride to and fro if you bought the lift tickets. Took only like 30 mins to get there. You can get rentals at hotels there.

RRingbinda📍Nozawa Onsen Grand Hotel ✨ Hotel features The hotel is in a great location, close to the ski resort, and easy to walk to the hot spring street, winter stay is especially atmospheric to soak in the hot spring at night looking at the snow, especially in the open air, when the snow is super cold, the body is super hot, very magical ice and fire feeling. ♨️ Surrounding environment 🔹Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort - Long enough ski trails, rich terrain! 🔹Onsen Street Walk - Traditional Japanese street full of small shops, try onsen buns, Nozawa vegetables, hand-beaten soba noodles, warming and authentic. 🔹 Taoist God Fire Festival (January 15th every year) The atmosphere is super lively! 🛁Rooms & Facilities 🔹 Hot spring large bath & open-air bath view is excellent, unfortunately private bath was not open during stay. 🔹 Spacious room, clean and tidy, Japanese design, super comfortable to sleep. 🔹 Winter is especially feeling, as soon as you open the window, you will see the mountains of white snow, after skiing back to the hotel to bathe, chill the whole way. 🍽️ Dining experience 🔹 Breakfast (buffet) - Western + Japanese option, miso soup, Nozawa, grilled fish are quite good. 🔹 Dinner (Kaiseki) - Exquisite Japanese banquet cuisine, including sashimi, wagyu beef, tempura, taste good but no special surprises. 💗 Check-in experience The perfect combination of skiing + hot springs, the hotel environment is comfortable, the location is convenient, the surrounding traditional hot spring street, and the Daozu God Fire Festival such a limited experience, winter stay CP value is extremely high! #Nozawa Onsen Grand Hotel #NozawaOnsen #Ski Accommodation Recommendation #hot spring hotel experience #Open-air bath #Skiing and Hot Springs #Japanese Inn #A must-do for winter travel #Driving Japan #Fire Festival Shocking Experience

GGuest UserI rarely complain about others when I write reviews for B&Bs, because I think the service industry is not easy, and I try to say good things if I can, but this time I have to complain about this one! We have been to Yudanaka 4 times and stayed in 8 different B&Bs. The first 3 times, the store provided pick-up/drop-off/snow monkey park services, so this time we did not confirm in advance. Unexpectedly, some stores do not provide this service (very few), and Tenkawaso is one of them! After arriving at Yudanaka Station, I called the boss and spent half a day (the boss's English was not good, and communication was more difficult). He drove to pick us up, and everything went smoothly. On the morning of the day we left, it was snowing heavily. We asked the boss to take us to the station, but he flatly refused, saying that they did not provide drop-off service (paying the taxi fare was not an option), and they did not help us call a taxi (it was difficult to get through on the phone, and they spoke Japanese). Later, we met a family of four Australian guests. They asked to be dropped off at the station one day in advance, but they were also refused (they said that the boss actually came to the station to pick us up, which was incredible). Later, they asked a Japanese friend to book a taxi, and they also thought the boss was mean! Finally, we could only carry our suitcases (the ground was covered with snow and we couldn't pull them), walked for 8 minutes to the bus station, waited for 25 minutes in the heavy snow (the bus was 20 minutes late), and rushed into the train at the last minute before the train started. The whole process was exciting and sad! I hope everyone can avoid this, or at least ask about the pick-up/drop-off service in advance. Most homestays don't have this problem, but it will be very troublesome if you encounter it!

GGuest UserLocated just within 3min from Yudanaka station, Raki Onsenryokan is run by a Chinese family. As a quiet town on its own, no one was tending to the reception when I arrived, after ringing the bell, a lady came down to help with the check in - very straightforward. I believe the family stays in the same building as they said if we ever needed anything, we could just ring the bell at the reception. Obviously I had booked a room too big for a solo traveller as this was the only room left as ”non-smoking”. Toilet and sink are at two different parts of the room which was a little inconvenient. Ryokan offers free drive (15min) TO snow monkey park, but not return, so please cater at least 35min to walk from park exit to the bus stop. Ryokan also provided a hearty breakfast, overall for the price paid it was a decent stay!

WWuyayizhiThe hotel's pick-up service at Yudanaka Station gave a very good first impression. Although the facilities are a bit old, the service is very warm, the room is very large, and there is a private hot spring. Every morning, the hotel also picks up guests to the Snow Monkey Park for free. However, there is a small flaw in the service I personally encountered. When I checked in, the hotel informed me that the return time from the Snow Monkey Park was 12 noon, just in time for the 12:30 bus back to Nagano, but in fact it became 12:30 the next day. I had to take the next bus back to Nagano. Because there were fewer buses, it was about an hour and a half late.

WWoshizhangmiaomiaoIt is a very small town, very quiet. There are Chinese staff, very enthusiastic, you can ask them for help if you need any help. There is a wild monkey park nearby, you can go to see the little monkeys taking a hot spring bath. The hotel provides pick-up and drop-off, and there is a shuttle bus schedule.

TTravelKingOwner is a bit Eccentric and cares more about his daytime dramas. Also has a Dalmatian which he keeps chained in the corner of the living room. Dog is always barking and can be quite a nuisance at times. Also i think the dog urinated as the owner keeps him chained inside all the time. So if you don’t mind the heavy smell of a dog and a unfriendly owner, then look elsewhere. Positives are the onsen is very hot and good. Food is above average and the time they take to make it shows in the details. The rooms are Japanese style and basic. No outlet plugs for charging devices. I would not stay here again.
