Best Western Discovery Inn

Pros: Nice towels, Great free breakfast, Friendly helpful staff and Nice (hot) shower pressure. Cons: 1st this is a MOTEL not a hotel 2nd: my room was in the back and was facing the highway. I had to put in my head phones and play calming music to drown out the noise 3rd the floors were 1990s ceramic tile, the beds were way too firm, the bed coverings thin and uncomfortable, and the sink area was outside of the enclosed shower and toilet. You get the idea. This was an outdated motel from the 80s or 90s. Maybe even older. I won’t be staying here again.

This will be our third time staying here and once again got a great room. Clean and comfortable. Total cost for the two of us with taxes was $51. At this price I am not looking for Hampton Inn amenities. We pack our own toiletries, have Kleenex, they provide soap and toilet paper, wife packs a hair dryer, and have a Roku stick to watch TV. We love this place because we stop here on our way to AZ. We pull up to our room, bring our overnight stuff in, six feet from our car, walk across the street to the Pow Wow Restaurant/Lizard Lounge for dinner and adult beverages, walk back, and then on the road again in the morning. Two trips next year to AZ and this will again be our stopping point along the way.

While several hotels have downgraded breakfast to ”grab n go” bags of granola bar and juice; this hotel has maintained offering a hot breakfast of eggs, sausage, waffles, yogurt, cereals, juices, etc. The rooms were clean, well maintained and quiet. Certainly the best value of the 10 hotels we stayed in during this vacation.
Fairfield Inn & Suites Tucumcari

We stayed at the Fairfield Inn in Tucumcari, NM on our vacation last week. After reading the reviews and hearing about how new this hotel was, we were really looking forward to our stay. I must say we were not impressed. At all. It was in sort an isolated location, with limited dinner choices nearby. The parking lot was not very large....we literally had to check on our vehicle every hour or so just to make sure some large truck or construction vehicle did not park inches away from it. The air conditioning in the room had a motion detector, so when you get in your room it is very warm. And when you leave and come back, guess what? It will be warm again. The bed was lumpy, and not comfortable at all. And forget about any water pressure in the shower.......... I guess those items ultimately could have been forgivable, but the service in the morning was terrible. Their website advertises a ”free continental and grab-n-go hot breakfast”. Our travel schedule precluded us from waiting around in the morning until 6:30 am until breakfast began, so we asked the desk clerk at check-out if there was any way we could just get a couple of muffins, yogurts, bagels, etc... to go since we had to leave early. With a snotty attitude, she just told us ”we don't do that here”. So for almost $150 a night we got no breakfast. If that is really true that the hotel's policy is to not offer grab-n-go for breakfast, they should: 1) Keep in mind that Tucumcari, New Mexico is NOT a destination city, it is a travel stop on the way to somewhere else and there are many people who cannot wait around until 6:30 or 7:00 am to get the breakfast they paid for, and 2) Take the ”grab-n-go” advertisement off of their website. I would not recommend this Fairfield Inn to anyone, unfortunately.
