cute place, everything is very DIY, we havent't met anyone from the hotel until the next morning. apparently you get a code to open the door by email but we spoke to a few guests and none of them had received it, so you'll need to be able to make a phonecall to reach the owners to get the code to get in...

Stykkishólmur Inn is not just a hotel — it’s the largest artwork in town, where each hallway, room, and corner tells a story of something that almost happened. Our rooms are cozy, simple, and thoughtfully designed for comfort and curiosity. Whether you’re staying in a small double or a larger room, expect: Comfortable beds with quality linens Private bathrooms with modern fixtures and soft lighting Minimalist Icelandic design with occasional quirky touches Wall murals and art installations just outside your door, part of the hotel-wide exhibition of “almost-true” history Each floor features a different near-myth or unrealized dream — from UFO landings to peace summits. The public areas (lounges, hallways, stairwells) are part-gallery, part-time capsule. You’ll find: A welcoming lounge with seating and story fragments Surreal murals inspired by real ideas that nearly happened Calm, quiet, and clean rooms with personality — never clutter A feeling that your stay is part of something a little bigger Whether you're here for a night or a week, you’ll sleep inside a story. This isn’t just a hotel. It’s a map of Icelandic dreams.

Easy self-check in, which was great for us because we reached near 11pm. Beds were comfortable, heating was good. Best part was breakfast. Shared kitchen was well stocked with pans, eggs, milk, salami, oil, sauces, for cooking. Had a satisfying breakfast complete with coffee, juices and yogurt.

The location is quite convenient. The hotel is all ready when you check in, you can put your luggage, you can visit the village, the village is very small, and you saw the aurora that night.

The room's view of Chapel Hill is unbeatable! The kitchen is stocked with seasonings and all sorts of cooking and dining essentials. The front desk is open until 8 PM, so late arrivals don't need to worry – your room number and name will be posted on the front desk glass. It's quiet at night, and navigation leads you right to the spot. Definitely recommend this place!

ZZIJIANThe service attitude is a bit poor, the room is fairly large, there is a kitchen, and you can park at the door. The geographical location is relatively remote. The journey in winter has to cross the snow-capped mountains, and the driving skills must be good. In the small town, there is only one supermarket to buy things, and there is no place to play nearby.

YYee FongWe added bed linens with additional charges but then we need to install it ourselves. We are already tired travel from far and setting the bedlinen ourselves is unacceptable. For the men's shared bathroom( not the toilet), the floor is full of dirt, without slippers it is very bad experience. I was showering with naked feet because I only travel with shoes. As there's a short distance from room to the bathroom that need to step through murt, other traveller slippers also became dirty and just walk into shower area with slippers on. There's plenty of space for shared kitchen which is awesome, but the auto door lock made it very inconvenient for a single person that is in middle of cooking and need to open door for partner, because 1 room is only given with 1 set of keys. I did not expect that the full windowed view of waterfall is only for ordering meal, oherwise I would rather spend 1 meal there for the scenery, sadly I missed the awesome breakfast.

NNo_return_dateVery helpful staff and the bed is really comfortable. The common areas are a bit dated and the bathroom is a problem in that the position of the sink makes it hard to use and the shower floods the bathroom unless you built a towel wall to contain the water to the shower but then you have sopping wet towels to deal with. The shower setup is the kind of thing you have to put up with in India and other 3rd world countries. This place is not close to any grocery stores so you have limited food options. I had the dinner buffet which was good but fairly expensive.

SSobolevAlexanderComfortable location. Very clean and neat. View to the sea (but it is not close, or to the mountains). Breakfast is very modest - bread, cheese, ham, cooked egg. Breakfast is not available. The common shower is combined with the toilet - one for 4 rooms.
